A Ten-Show Week in Mary Kay

The myth of the ten-show week goes on in Mary Kay Cosmetics. The truth is, it’s impossible to replicate on a consistent basis. Heck, it’s nearly impossible to do even once.

Last week we talked about Mary Kay’s promotion of the “Ten Show Week.” It’s easy, right? Anyone who really wants to do it can! If you can’t do it, you’re not trying hard enough.

Well here at Pink Truth, we know it’s not quite that simple. There were lots of us who would have loved the opportunity to do 10 shows in a week. It was just next to impossible becuase the Mary Kay business model stinks.

Home parties are a thing of the past, and it’s very difficult to get women to have them.  If you can even get someone to book a party with you, there’s a greater than 50% chance that they’ll never actually have their party.

Even those of us tying to hold 3 or 4 classes a week often fell short of our goals because of how difficult it is to find women who want to hold these classes. But here’s how one sales directors did 10 shows in one week!

Well my 10 show week is now completed !!!! So I thought I would give you all an update as to how it went, and what I learned from it!

My week was to start on Sunday August 19th, at 7pm , with a double class of 6.

At 4pm I got a call from the hostess stating that it really was not a good night, and that not all 5 guests could come, (my 1st postponement) I told her that I had only one week to accomplish this great goal and the only other night that I had open was Monday night and I really need her to do it. I asked her to recall everyone for the next night and call me back. She called back within the hour and said “were on”.

1st & 2nd Class : (double class)  8 cheerleaders, 2 adults, pretty crazy. Velocity was a big hit, and the tinted moisturizers !!!! Glad Moms were there ! total  $ 324

3rd& 4th  Class : (double class- this was the rescheduled one) 4 adults, 2 teens, one was the “heckler” but told her how great she was and that she was going to be great help to me at the class… And that was that. 2 Miracle sets, random Glamour, microdermabrasion total :$360  those were both done in one day = $684 !!! lots of Mirrors to clean !

5th  & 6th  Class : (double class) 3 of the women only spoke Japanese (I do not) so there was a bit of translating between them going on. Sold 2 Miracle sets, Microdermabrasion, and glamour. Total $318

Class 7& 8 had to be rescheduled, because I got the 24 hour flu, and didn’t feel like getting Sick on people !!!

7th & 8th Class: (double class) 7 college students, none were on any skin care program !  the Velocity was a huge hit, and they all LOVED the tinted moisturizers !!!! sold 4 sets, lots of lip gloss & mascara !!! Total $142

9th & 10th Class: (double class) 6 women in their 50’s, some very set in there ways ! I took more time with skin care , and talked about skin cancer, sold 6 Microdermabrasion sets, & 1 miracle set total $434 – TOTAL SALES $1578

The big thing I learned was that people will really rise to the occasion to help us, if we just ASK, and let them know that we are working on a huge goal. Really women like to help women ! We  just need to ASK !!!!!

Make it your goal to do a 10 show week !!!!!

Sounds great, right? Well let me just suggest that if you are able to do this, it’s not something you’re going to be able to replicate often.

And here are a few things she forgot to mention:

  • Discounts given on those sales figures
  • Cost of hostess gifts and/or free products given away
  • How many calls she made to book these; how many cancellations she had
  • How many of these women will become repeat customers

  1. Those sales seem really low. And what is a double show? That seems like cheating on the goal, or is that two in one day. If I figure she worked 5 hours per show, and she sold everything for retail, no discounts, then she made 15.78 per hour, and that is without expenses taken out. I don’t think it is worth it to do day in and day out.

  2. A “double show” is one where you have more than a certain number of people, so it counts for two shows. (anything to inflate the figures).
