How to “Go National” in Mary Kay

Written by TRACY on . Posted in Career Ladder, National Sales Directors

From Mary Kay national sales director Anita Garrett-Roe: How to get to national sales director status.

Anita says getting to national status involves making women feel “special”. (Let’s be honest though, if you contribute to the numbers for nsd status, they don’t care WHO you are!)

So tell them you’ve selected them and they can come with you to the top. More emotional manipulation, in my opinion!

Everyone who becomes a National Sales Director had to start at the beginning, right where you are now. A lot of the success you will have comes from gathering team members, and inspiring others to follow YOU!

Here are some words that will help you!

“I have decided to go to the TOP of this company, and I will be promoting 10 women into management. I want to take you with me. There are two tracks in Mary Kay. One is the Selling Track, which I am sure you are familiar. But we also have the Leadership Track, for Directors. That is where I see you. You would be a great Director. Somehow I just don’t think that the Selling Track is enough to hold your interest, or am I wrong?….:

“Great, let’s get you a kit. Do you want it shipped to your house or to work?”

“Great, let’s get you a kit. Do you want to pay for it with a check or creditcard?”

These are my very favorite closes, because it ASSUMES the close, instead of saying, “Is there any reason why we can’t send in your agreement today?” ( “yes, major fear!)

If you ask enough people, you will have all the team members you need. But what’s more, with the above technique, you will have people who will be selling and recruiting because they want to be Directors too. That is how you build a strong group!

Ask God to bless your business, and He will. He will put the right people in your path.

Love and belief,
Anita

Don’t you love it? If you ask enough people… Well no kidding, Anita! If I ask a million people, I might get 30 to be in my unit.

…’Well, no kidding, Anita! If I ask a million people, I might get 30 in my unit..

Exactly. mlms always talk in ethereal language. Like trying to catch feathers in a stiff wind. Not impossible, but extremely difficult.

mlm: Well, anyone could dig to China if they really wanted to. So, is there any reason why we can’t get your Dig-To-China- kit right away?

sucker: Really? China? I wanna go to China. Sign me up.

mlm: You can give yourself a raise.

Question: why don’t they ever finish that sentence? If finshes like this: “You can give yourself a raise – just call 1 million people and if they don’t answer, tell them you’ll just keep calling till you connect (don’t you just love the audacity?), and as soon as you connnect be sure to tell them you were thinking of them when MK came out with this really super-de-duper special. You only have to come to a photo-shoot where we’ll take professional pictures of you – you know – before and after. Then, we’ll wisk you off to a seaparate room and the old arm-twisting session will commence; to be followed up with the old one-two punch inventory talk. Savvy?

Crap, anyone can dig to China if they aren’t lazy losers who aren’t willing to do the work.

    Possible? Maybe. Who’s to say?

I am still friends with a woman who used to be in MK. She is now in another MLM “venture”. I listened as she chatted up and challenged people we meet as we when shopping. The same thing we were “trained” to do. Now I understand how embarrassed my other friends were when we went out. :(
    BOY OH BOY!
    She’s just switched bubbles!

I am sorry to go OT but I saw the **** blog…..and it bashes this site, and people mention that we arejust bitter and talk smack about us. (I feel comfy here, so I do consider myself part of this group) and it is ironic though. It is based on this site and copies posts to bash us! Yet they say WE have no lives? If this site did not exist that blog would not have anything to discuss!
I do participate in many forums/message boards and I have been a Mod…I do not see anything about supporting this site…I would be more than happy to pitch in! I know it is not cheap especially w/ archives.

I feel really sorry for the women that are so bitter about their Mary Kay Business not working out for them. It is truly not meant for everyone. That is why there are so many Jobs out there, you just have to find the one that really takes hold of your heart. For the women that choose to bash Mary Kay my heart goes out to you. You must have some really hard times in your life to bring down such a Beautiful Company along with so many Beautiful Mary Kay Sisters out there. For those of you who are thinking about starting your own Mary Kay Business, GO FOR IT and DON’T let any negativity change your mind. Just remember that what how much you put into something is what determines results. Be strong and possitive. This Company is worth it! Let God be your leader and everything else will fall into place:)

Meegan, on the contrary, let us pray for you. Let us help you when you realize that you are not making any money in Mary Kay. When you realize that you have been scammed. This is not negativity on this site, not by any means. What we are speaking here is TRUTH. We have people on this site who were well on their way to becoming NSD’s. We have more former Cadillac drivers than you have ever met. There are hundreds and hundreds of us here, we can’t all be wrong. Every one of us have common issues with Mary Kay. When you file your income tax, let a real CPA do it. They will show you how you are not making any money.

“It is truly not meant for everyone.”

      Ahem:

“Mary Kay is not a difficult job. If you can read from a book, squirt from a tube, smile and nod and say “How does your face feel?” then maybe you might consider something like this…”

~NSD Rena Tarbet’s “New Consultant Companion”

“Anybody can do Mary Kay – all you have to do is be excited and have fun!”

      ~NSD Natalie Privette-Jones

You say Mary Kay is truly not for everyone, and yet these NSDs insist otherwise. Which of you is lying through their teeth?

Meegan, to be blunt about it, can you give an honest opinion on Mary Kay WITHOUT spouting scripts? That whole MK isn’t for everyone spiel is thrown out there to keep you from questioning the flaws in the system. We’ve all read exactly what you wrote in other critiques, and also in training docs we received when we were in MK. So you don’t fool us. You’ve just said nothing that’s original.

    1. Please don’t feel sorry for us here at PinkTruth. I can only speak for myself and I sure you I am not bitter. My MK business didn’t work because I felt God telling me to get out and it was very unpleasing to Him. I am a member of this community not to say bad things about MK but to share my I -story with others. Like how MK members have meetings and you share your I story. You are not bitter at us for having other jobs just because you are a member of a group.
    2. There are many jobs out there because people have businesses and they must hire people to produce their products not because MK isn’t for everyone. Yes MK wasn’t for me because God spoke to me and showed me how those people saying Put God first , family second, and career third were not putting God first. I saw women not telling the truth about how much they earn, pretending to be someone else. These are just a few. I am not bitter at anyone, I pray for these women and I hope they can see the truth as I did.
3.I am not having any hard times and I am not bashing MK. I am only telling the truth and sharing my I- story. I love my life now after MK. I recently got married, have more money now, and I have a closer relationship with God and others in my life. Now after MK I can talk to people and go to events without bringing up MK and people don’t dread seeing me in fear of hearing something about MK.
    4. For those of you who are thinking about starting a MK business, BUYER BE AWARE. Ask many many questions before you sign. Ask the director to show you her schedule C for several years. This will show you profit and lose for the year and if you get several years you can see an average. You can also see everything it takes to have a MK business. If the director refuses to answer your questions or says “that is negative” there is a reason because she doesn’t want you to know the truth. The best advice I can give is take a step back and be the person looking in. You can see more and have a better uderstanding of what you are getting yourself into.
Again we are not here to be negative but to share our I story with others.
