A Sneaky Way to Get Production
Here are a couple of tactics that are used to help make production goals. There’s always a push at the end of the month for new recruits toward the goals, but a recruit without a wholesale order is useless. So here’s how to game the system.
The key is to place an order for the new recruit in the amount of $600, $1,200 or $1,800, and on a credit card that you KNOW will be declined. (Not too hard for the typical sales director with maxed out cards.)
After the month officially closes, the director has a few days to “resolve” order issues, which means taking care of orders on hold or problems with agreements. During those few days the director has time to “work” with the new consultant to obtain financing.
The Kaybots would likely chime in that the consultant still had the option to get or not get the inventory. That of course assumes that the sales director told her that it was cancelable at that point. We can’t assume that they were told that. More likely, they were told in a panic how it had to be paid for, they needed to find a way make a way, that their success in Mary Kay depended upon this, and a bunch of other lies and half-truths.
You see this practice with the credit card going on a lot, especially if a director is struggling to meet production or finish a car. Corporate is aware of the practice, but looks the other way. (As with many of the other practices that are not on the up-and-up, but corporate ignores them because they generate wholesale orders.)
Another way to “finish” cars means finding terminated consultants to reinstate. If a director or car driver can get a consultant to reinstate under the $20 deal, and put in a $600 order for her, she’s hit the jackpot. The reinstated consultant pays nothing. The sales director or car driver gets DOUBLE POINTS for a personal recruit. Add that to the commissions, and we’re talking cars and cash!
And don’t think this type of thing doesn’t go on with those in “national in qualification” (niq). Do it fast, baby, the Mary Kay way!

Yes, I know a girl who’s last day of diq was exactly as you described….and what a way to begin the hamster wheel of directorship?!! She lost her directorship within a year….. and I hear she is back at the diq game again!. I never liked her anyways so I hope she has fun with that! lol

I have to say every single morning I open Pink Truth to see what else I find out about that I already don’t know. yesterday I tried placing a very small order and the system told me I could not because I needed to place a $200 order since I now fall into “inactive”. Well I sure found a way to go around that because I will not place orders and spend my hard earn $ to have inventory sitting on my shelf. I contacted a friend (family member) who is also a consultant and struggling, however she is still Active, so I placed the order through her, so we decided we will keep her active by both placing the orders on her account unless I have enough sales to order the $200. Of course my SD does not know this, but even if she did “what can she possibly do” without proof. So for those of you that are still selling but can’t afford to keep placing those minimum orders, find a friend you can do this with and both of you come out winning.
I know soon very soon I will no longer be part of that because there are no orders coming in, people are not hosting parties, so basically is only me and my own purchases and you can only have so many lipsticks

Better idea, go too ebay and get all your purchases you need for a fraction of the price. Encourage your friend who had to order to do the same. That way you dont have to have too many lipsticks in your purse or on your inventory shelf- you know the one that the product just lierally flys off of?
Encourage your friend to do the same. Or better yet- go to saphora or Target or whatever is your place to visit and buy better skin care products and make up.

I agree! If there are certain MK products you love and you order them through eBay rather than directly from MK, it’s like recycling. Added Bonus: you will no longer be helping to bankroll a weaselly MLM that does anything BUT “enrich women’s lives.”

I do too! I especially love their eyeliner, lipstick, and lip gloss. I also love their eyelid primer, their targeted line reducer, and the oil mattifier. IDK, I got into MK because I wanted the discounts on those items. No one recruited me. Seriously. I contacted a director and told her I wanted to sell MK…no one approached me about it, oddly enough! I’ve been to three facials through the years, and bought from five consultants, yet no one ever asked me to sell the stuff personally. I think I am fairly lucky though. My director is my 2nd grade teacher. Just as my starter kit came in the mail, I wound up unemployed. she’s asked what she can do to help me out, if I want to sell MK full-time, and point-blank told me to take my time to place an order; not to mention that she’s told me to only place the minimum order, on top of that. Does it help that I’ve known her for years? Maybe. I guess I should add that despite being a teacher, and knowing so many people in three different cities, she still took 9 years to become a director. I think she does things more ethically than most. I’m not saying I wont end up finding out she’s sleezed her way through some aspects, but so far, she’s proven to be as fair and ethical as I remember her being as a teacher.

Eliana I believe there are still good people out there that are trying to do their MK business a more ethical way and that is probably the reason it has taken her so many years to become a director. I am glad you have had a good experience with it, I personally have not let any of their “manipulation” get to me because I know better, but I do like their make up but I guess is true what DidPink says you can always buy it on Ebay.
Good Luck!

There may be women “trying” to do MK ethically, but you cannot be a director or get a full-time living out of MK without deception. It is simply impossible to make a living at these recruiting schemes without recruiting and frontloading with large inventory orders. Anyone who has “succeeded” in Mary Kay or any other MLM has only done so because hundreds or thousands of women below them in the pyramid have lost money in this loser of a business model. How could anyone ever feel good about themselves knowing they profited only because many, many others lost in a “business” model that dooms almost everyone to failure?

There are millions of cosmetic products out on the market. Please, please, please believe me when I say it won’t take you long to find something you like just as well or better. I know you want to help people who you think are doing this business ethically, but the only people really benefiting are definitely not doing it ethically.

Ditto! I thought I would never, ever find a foundation I liked as much as the MK stuff, but I was dead wrong. After I got out of MK, I started researching other foundations through sites such as Make Up Alley and Beautipedia. These are worth exploring. I found a lot of great products that work much better for me than MK’s did–including a much more awesome foundation.

Oh Lord, the declined credit card scheme. Forgot about that. In the olden days my old wanna be used to court bankers who would open up new credit cards very quickly. Don’t know if they are doing that anymore. Seriously, the only way to get out is to really get out…. send your product back so you can’t be “re-activated” without your knowledge. If you start getting the Applause again, you are back in.

SuzyQ, if you do return your inventory for the buy back of 90% mean you quit? And active MK IBC cannot send her dated inventory and just have to “eat” the loss?
I see LOTS of IBCs selling on eBay. Yes, it is very saturated and very competitive. The ONLY items that do sell fast are discontinued fragrances, and Raisin berry. I know I have at least 20 of those. In a box in storage. One thing I noticed about MK, and I LOVE doing mani pedis on me and mom and friends, NK does NOT have a very good selection in nail polish, do they?

Call them and ask them where to send a signed statement cancelling your consultant number.
That prevents anyone from activating your number without your knowl4dge. Yes, it’s been reported to happen, by someone who found that she was still active and her “orders” were going to her director’s house.

Ah the old decline card. I ran into mine the other day. I gave me the worst full on flash back of the months I couldn’t talk that last new girl into her order in time.
The card was given to me by my senior with a *wnk, wink* for the months I “might” need it.
Funny but at the time I felt like I was just taking an out an advance instead of cheating. Desperation causes normally honest women to justify!
Git er done! Lol

I don’t think there is any way to do Mk ethically. Think about it. The Director’s goals are at cross purposes to the Consultants goals. Take end of the month. Wouldn’t it be more “ethical” to place the order the following month on the first, so that the IBC had more days of purchasing at wholesale, rather than lose month one entirely just cause the Director “needed” production?
Look at recruiting at the Debut or during the perfect/power start. Does it really make sense for the Director to recruit all the New IBC’s best friends right out from under her before she can even get show lines started? The Director should intentionally NOT recruit any of a new person’s prospects in order for her to build a client base…yet if she does that, her Unit dies the attrition death.
Does ANY Consultant need star level merchandise? Seriously..if the average is ONE per month, who really needs 4200.00 wholesale? Look at 1800. REALLY? A new consultant should stock 3600.00 worth of merchandise in selections she DOES NOT EVEN KNOW WILL SELL, just to have the “full wagon”? AT a $300 week…that’s TEN WEEKS before you’ve turned it…if you even had what was ordered! The IBC ends up tying up funds, in non moving product, while she uses her profit to replace what was sold. THIS IS FOR HER GOOD???
Ethical is not just telling the truth…or deciding to be transparent. Its moral courage to do the right thing. And the “right” thing is the “wrong” thing for a Director!

OMG! How do I remove myself from all this hate you ladies espouse? I want out of here! Not out of MK, but out of HERE! I’m not saying MK is the greatest. Hell, I’m not even saying it’s good! I was simply saying my director “appears” to be more ethical than what you ladies have encountered. I’m sorry for you and your’ losses. I’ve lost money too; as in, I’ve spent more than I should have on MK cosmetics that I didn’t need, but wanted. If I never sell a single lip gloss to anyone other than myself, and toss in the towel, that’s my decision – and that’s fine. However, to have you ladies now turn around and bash me and my personal experience, just because it isn’t YOUR’ opinion…you ladies can kiss more than just your’ funds goodbye! Get over it! Move on! Educate, but let the hate go! As for me, I have a wedding to plan, a life to live, and friends who don’t give a damn if I sell MK or not, just as long as I am happy. Go out and find your’ happiness ladies!

Eliana – I don’t see anyone bashing you. We are simply telling you the truth about Mary Kay. You say you think your director is more ethical. That’s what you see. We’re telling you why that’s not possible.
Mary Kay persists in part because so many women think there is a “right way” to do Mary Kay. They claim Pink Truth members are just failures who are complaining because they didn’t succeed. That’s not so. We are part of a group of millions – - almost everyone who has tried to sell Mary Kay – - who are finally willing to tell the truth about it. It is the SYSTEM of Mary Kay that is broken, making it impossible for you to succeed “ethically”.
The comments in response to you are not personal, and no one bashed you. However, I agree with Lazy Gardens. There is a lovely red X in the top right corner of your screen that I suggest you click.

And other then encouraging you to buy stuff on Ebay, none of this is directed at YOU and your situation in particular. You gave a situation and someone said, that they believe there are people trying to run the business ethically, which might very well be your friend, but we are also sharing our experiences that most are not. In my situation my recruiter would not let us get into debt, her SD was pushing us to buy 3k, but my friend (we did maintain our 10 year friendship) couldn’t let us get into debt like her.
We are not negative. Many of us had really bad experiences with MK and we share that you each other and new people who visit this site hoping that one of us, maybe me, maybe Raisinberry, maybe freshoutofpink, will have a story that makes someone say “That is happening to me too!”.
If you go on the board, and search for my postings and look at what is going on in my life right now, you will be amazed that I am even on here to help other people. It has nothing to do with MK. But I am an extremely positive person. MY life is fill with love and happiness and part of my joy is the private message I got from someone newly quitting MK who was so upset, and so lost and down, and just the fact that I took the time to PM her and ask here how today was helped her day.
I am not here to be negative because it is MK who made the truth negative, not I.

Eliana, where is the hate you’re talking about? I don’t see anyone bashing you and your story. We’re just sharing our own very valid experiences in the company, especially those of us who were directors ourselves. We actually want to protect you from what we know happens every day in this business.
I’m sure your director is a nice person and is trying to do things the right way. I know I considered myself to be ethical and putting the interests of my consultants first. We’re just trying to point out that the essential structure of the Mary Kay business model puts directors in a position of needing big orders from unit members in order to survive.
I had to pay bills with my director’s check. Directorship was my only source of income. Consultants not selling/ordering in any given month resulted in a pitiful check and my having to pay bills with credit cards (which is how so many directors accumulate huge debt). I was torn between my family’s well-being and my desire not to overburden my consultants. I was told over and over that I just had to recruit more bodies to make the money each month. But we all know how difficult that is and how that’s a process that we cannot directly control.
At any rate, there are some here at Pink Truth who have been burned badly by sales directors, and I’m glad they have a safe place to vent. I’m also glad that this hasn’t been your experience. I can tell you, it’s rather rare in MK world.
Obviously you’re free to leave the PT website, but I hope you stay. If nothing else, you’ll be educated on what you may need to look out for in the future.

The Declined Credit Card tactic. Mmm hmm.
And just, pray tell, where is the disclosure from Mary Kay directors about what using that over-limit credit card will do to your credit rating??? Or about the fees imposed by your credit card company for exceeding your card limit??? Did any MK Director ever tell you that negative information will remain on your credit report for up to seven years???
Oh, that’s right, I forgot. Longstanding MK directors usually have so many maxed out credit cards that their credit ratings are already trashed. What difference does another over-limit hickey make?
By the way… Something to think about… Did you know that employers in certain lines of work will want to see your credit report before hiring you? Did you know that landlords and mortgage companies and car finance companies pull credit reports before agreeing to do business with you?
If you get stuck with a 20%+ interest rate on your car loan your monthly payment will be so high that you’ll only be able to afford a piece-of-junk used car, which will cost more in the long run than the brand-new car I bought myself with a “well-qualified” interest rate. Come to think of it, maybe that “can’t afford a car with my trashed-out credit” problem is the reason so many MK Car Program participants are desperate to hang onto their pink cars, no matter what the cost.
[sarcasm] How nice it is to know that a Mary Kay “business” will not only drain your financial resources, but it will also set you up for failure in finding another job, getting a place to live, and replacing your car. [/sarcasm]

exibc78, You have been nice about things. I have had others here, some on this thread, some on other threads that treat anyone who likes anything MK as though they were dirt. I did remove myself from this site – but not before I received any email that you had posted a follow-up comment. I want to make thing clear, I do not believe everyone on here is full of hate, just enough people that I wont stay here. I do believe this is a good educational site – thus I said before to educate, not hate. I will not return after this post, as I have said, I found how to remove myself from this site completely. I just don’t care for all the negativity when someone shares a few good experiences with MK/people in MK. My own sister got screwed over by her director. I saw through that woman within the first 2 minutes of meeting her face-to-face. I’m not as young and inexperienced in life as my sister is, and it angered me that someone played her for a fool. I understand why some people on here are so full of hate toward MK – but you don’t have to make it personal toward people who like anything MK at all. I don’t sell enough of it to make anyone money worth writing home to mom about. I have bought enough to keep myself set up for a while – and I don’t even intend to recruit anyone! I know how teared scams work, and MK is just that. However, I do like the products enough to buy them. I’m saving myself a couple of bucks by being a consultant – except for the fact that I want to try more things than I really “need.” As for buying other brands. I have, I assure you. However, when you find something that works for you, you tend to stick with it. At least I tend to stick with it. I have also been chemically burned by the timewise line. But guess what? I have also been burned by natural witch hazel. My skin is overly sensitive. In the end, I use bare minerals to clean my face, garnier to moisturize by night, and olay with spf to moisturize by day. I use what works for me. Thing is, there actually are MK products that work for me when nothing else will. I don’t know why I’m bothering to even explain that – other than I want you ladies to try to understand that not everyone is stupid to MK’s game – with or without pinktruth. I’m not here to change anyone’s mind about MK, but I’m also not here to be bashed for using products that work for me, or trusting someone I’ve known since I was a small child. And besides, if you read my first post, I said I may find she has sleezed her way thru on some things, but so far she has proven to be fair and ethical. There have been a few of you who have stated that I may know one of the few directors who is ethical, but the company by-and-large isn’t. To you ladies, I thank you for being honest. To those of you who went straight into attack mode, because someone had something nice to say about a person within MK, shame on you! And to those ladies who feel the need to attack anyone with a positive experience, leave the educating to the kinder women of this site! In the end, they stand the better chance at reaching women who really don’t understand they are being taken – if they are being taken – because not everyone is.

Yet again, Eliana – I will remind you that no one attacked you in any way, so you ought not accuse us of doing so. We never said anyone is “stupid to MK’s game.” Quite the opposite. Many very smart women have been involved in Mary Kay, myself included. We are here to educate women about the truth of Mary Kay, but that doesn’t mean we’re calling anyone stupid. Eliana,
I believe you are not ready to read the things on this site. You are still too sensitive over the whole issue and you are going to see simple advice as an attack. It is fine. This site isn’t for everyone and you do have to be ready to hear the stuff that is posted here. My advice to you is to hit the x button in the right hand corner and ignore the emails that come to tell you someone has posted on your comment. After a while, you may be able to read the comments and not see an attack where in reality we were just sharing our experience. If that happens we would love to hear your story.

I am a makeup and skincare fanatic. I LOVES me some Sephora. I LOVES me some of many different make and skincare out there…………..But for skin care, I started w/ Clinique’s 2 step program, w/ that huge soap too big for my hands! LOL! And I have used Proactiv, and yeah, I got roped in the auto-ship, but I definitely extended the wonderful opportunity w/ people on E BAY. I also extend that same opportunity w/ WEN hair care (FINALLY! IT DOES WORK! I have been trying for years and spending thousands! I will NEVER need any shampoo or conditioner again! Maybe some Avvena hair detoxifier, and it would be brand new again! Plus I dye my hair ever 6 to 8 weeks, wait a couple of weeks, then do permanent high lights, and I did this 2 times since my last hair cut, and WEN has really help my hair!
(
I also get Meaningful beauty Auto- shipped. The deluxe kit. And yes, I share that opportunity for cheaper but still end up using the product for free. Wow, talk about chemical warfare on my face……..my skin and my moms never looked so good, and our hair! My daughters, mom and I….we are so happy w/ WEN, and I order BUNCHES so I give to my friends as well! I do like giving friends stuff, but on Ebay, I take OBO too. and I have a buy it now price, and my bidding, is close enough to that praice, just so I can use these products for free. Mary Kay’s Microdermabrasion really burned my skin. I have used Estee Lauders, Philosophys, so many others. MKs BURNED! And I do not have sensitive skin. And Urban Decay has AWESOME eye shadow primer! Also, Dr. FeelGoods mattifyer beats MARY KAYS!even Proactiv’s w/ Nylon is awesom compared to MK. and if ANYONE is interested in Proactivs oil control lotion, PM me! I have soooooooooooo many, and fresh too. I would LOVE to share! I just found out the company, ROdan and Fields now has a DS/ MLM thing going on!

” Clinique’s 2 step program, w/ that huge soap too big for my hands” it was a 3 step, w/ a huge soap bar, toner, and dramatically different lotion. Pair that up w/ a girl who never goes outside, and through the years takes care of her skin and uses sunscreen all the time, That gift from my mom really led me through the skincare world, and I LOVE trying new things.

HI Everyone, I have been following the PinkTruth for about 3 months now since i got the huge knock on the head about how much debt I have gone in vs. how much I have brought in. The first realization was that I had to pay for trainings! Then when my director wanted to coach our group and I said I was no longer interested in recruiting because i burned all my bridges, strangely…I never got another coaching call. Weird….huh?
HOWEVER the flip side of this is that I love the products. My mom sold MK back in the early 90′s and I hated the stuff(of course i was 8 at the time), but then about 1 year ago a friend asked me to try some stuff and I love it. DId I stupidly get sucked into it? FOR SURE. I spent way too much with the hopes I would make more. I consider myself lucky that I realized it sooner than later. I work in a dermatology office and for our allergy patients, TW is what our doctor suggests. It’s great that people on here have found other things to work for them(Proactiv is probably the worst product FOR ME) but more power to people who it does work for. I feel for Eliana because she wasn’t attacked specifically, but it was kind of preachy that there are other things besides MK. Who cares if she uses the product, she has the education not to be in the system anymore.
