Mary Kay Manipulation: Scripts for Potential Car Drivers

Written by TRACY on . Posted in Mary Kay Cars, Scripts & Training

It pays big to have “Mary Kay cars” on the road. It costs Mary Kay Inc. NOTHING, and is essentially free advertising. Not only that, Mary Kay knows that the cars make people think the drivers are successful. If they got a “free” Mary Kay car, they must be making lots of money. The cars silently convince the masses that there is success (where none really exists).

Mary Kay Inc. doesn’t want you to take the available cash compensation option, because no one can see that but you. The company wants you to take the car because it advertises for the company, and it is fully paid for either via your team/unit production, or with your copay. The bottom line is that if your people don’t order enough to “pay” for your car, you have to pony up the money with a copay.

So in the spirit of pushing consultants toward those cars (and having Mary Kay get more recruits and more unnecessary inventory orders), Mary Kay Cosmetics has scripts to be used to encourage consultants toward the car, using the “DISC” personality types.

Are they manipulating? You decide.

Dominance: Wouldn’t it feel great to drive around town in that vibrant red Pontiac Vibe? I believe the key is consistency. Commit to a plan of action to build your team right now. I know without a doubt that you can do it!

Influence: Imagine how great you’ll feel arriving at our unit meeting in that red trophy, the Pontiac Vibe! I can’t wait to go with you to the dealership to pick up the car! And once you’re driving red, all your team members are going to want to follow your lead.

Steadiness: What is (child’s name) going to think when you drop (him/her) off in a new red Vibe? He/she will feel so special coming to school in a brand new car, and he/she will be so incredibly proud of you!

Conscientiousness: You’ve accomplished what it takes for on-target for Grand Achiever status! Congratulations! But I know you’re not stopping when your goal is in sight. The most important thing for you to do now is fill your date book with appointments and watch for that special person at each one. If you talk to at least five new people every day about the Mary Kay opportunity, I know your dream of driving that car can become a reality!

These scripts are just meant to encourage with the use of good sales tactics, right? Well, everything in Mary Kay is geared toward manipulation for the benefit of corporate and your upline.

When you are new and you are told you “win” a car….you think you actually win it. Like its yours. No strings.

Once you find out that you didn’t “win” it, you find out that you, “earned the use” of it. Okay. So I get it for two years…and then I “re-qualify”.
    “That’s right”.

But then, you find out, no, you really didn’t “earn” anything at all…because it has to be maintained by monthly production, and if it’s not there, you have to make it up, unless you want to “lose” said vehicle.

Imagine how you feel when you “win” that new car, sell your old one, and then find out that if you miss another month in a row, you “lose”. At one point, (back in the day) I had to “find” the 2K shortfall from the previous month and add that to the 4K needed for the new month.
Doesn’t sound much like “winning” does it?

The rules change, and get modified, but it’s still the same forced cash cow…only newbies don’t know it. We 2%ers were told that we needed to get and keep 10 of you all in cars. Million Dollar Unit Baby!

That’s why a script had to be developed to hit every “type” with their hot buttons…MAXIMIZE.

In sales, there is a line that gets crossed all the time. Sales men and women “persuade” with what the client/customer wants and they minimize or justify what they don’t want. Personal integrity demands that what is really involved in the “sale” should be fully disclosed.

Mary Kay Cosmetics, Inc can NEVER fully disclose. You do not get told what is expected or what could happen next until you get there…to the next level. Reason?

You’d NEVER DO IT. And once you are hip deep in it, it’s damn hard to get out. As long as all the Directors play and pretend happy land, you will never suspect that they are all buried and can not get out unless they CONVINCE YOU TO TAKE THEIR SPOT!

CONVINCE YOU TO TAKE THEIR SPOT. Get it? They need 2 or 3 or 5 “on targets” to pull the unit production that would pay for THEIR own cars.

Team work makes the dream work, baby.

Many years ago now I earned the consultant car – the Vibe. That is when the lies really started to set in. Once I realized all of the strings attached to “winning” the car, I called MK and told them to come pick it up. I had sold my paid-off car so I had to go out and purchase a new vehicle – with a new loan. This is just one of the ways I was deceived by MK. Lies by omission are still lies.

My kids couldn’t give a flip what kind of car they ride to school in. We have a pretty nice vehicle now but have had clunkers in the past and my kids never commented on how they felt riding to school in any of them. And really, people: a Vibe isn’t exactly the kind of car that turns heads.

Excuse me! If you can earn executive income with part-time hours, I should have enough time to homeschool my kids and not have to drop them off anywhere. Right?? GRRRRRRRRR

Maybe our response to the Kaybots should be “pride cometh before a fall”…. just sayin’!

The thing that always struck me with this kind of reasoning (the mk-ers) is that they promote ‘self awareness’ at every turn. How would I feel, how would I look, etc. When it all shakes out- it’s pride. They are prideful. Please don’t get me wrong- I am proud of myself when I do a good job on something, etc., but I’m not out promoting it for everyone to notice what I’ve done.

The higher up they go on the ‘career ladder’ in Mk- the more prideful they become. It’s all about image, not substance.
