What a Truthful Seminar Speech Would Sound Like
Written by Raisinberry
Pink Truth has examined the seminar speech that every Mary Kay “top director” gives. Now we get to see what the speech would sound like if the top director couldn’t tell a lie…
It is so great to represent my Unit, “Christie’s Chargers,” here today in the number two position in the Pearl Seminar! Ladies, stand up you are amazing! I couldn’t have done it without you! This year had a slow start because of July, where hardly any orders came in because everybody spent their money on Seminar, and had also ordered a bunch of product In June to win the June wholesale prize, and help us finish big… which put us all in a pretty big hole for the beginning of this year.
I called like a fiend in July but no luck… we had to be happy with a $4,700 start. But I never gave up hope. My Goal was to get 10 women in red jackets and 5 women in red cars! Since nobody was working it took some real serious prizes to get women ordering… I mean working. Whitney had these tacky bracelets for $2.50 and I ordered a few for a $400 wholesale and 3 classes. So in August I had 3 New red jackets, as we got six new recruits and two women reactivated their terminated relatives. Our New Team members came in with Star orders so we knew God was with us! It was going to be our miracle year!
By September the frenzy had begun as I had Pink Caddy Posters all over our training center. We decided to do the 100 face race because everybody needed real money and real recruits! Most of us ended up doing the 8, 16 or 20 face race, and we kinda broke even on it because the hostesses were promised quite a big discount to gather up their friends…. most of the guests didn’t even know they could buy something! So, we gave them all marketing info and Miracles happen when you “ask” ladies! That month we got 15 new team members. Our Team Leader Christy Jones went on target for VIBE. She was short about $1100 wholesale but shoot, who wants to lose all that production for car so I told her just to put it in herself – she’ll sell it! That’s what I did!
November selling we expected a huge bump in Holiday Sales. We all went to a holiday packaging workshop conducted by someone who supposedly sells $50,000 every season. We stocked up on all the things women buy like lotions, and gels, and satin hands, and perfume sets… that really hurt us badly when January came and all that inventory was still on our shelves. BUT! We never gave up… and that’s the secret to success in Mary Kay. Never be negative and press onward.
The Pop we needed happened at January Retreat where I managed to get 15 of my Unit members to show up. In 24 hours we broke thru mental barriers that enabled our Unit to FOCUS on our Million Dollar goal! We were recruiting maniacs… we just had to tell other women about this AWESOME COMPANY. By January end, we had $25,000 in production and a new vision!
In February we started using that new inventory sheet that has the $5,400 level and things started going crazy. We held debuts for all our new people and were getting them in their Red Jackets in the first week! You can not even imagine the excitement of recruiting 2 or 3 or 5 women from a consultants business debut! These gals were Team Leaders before they actually held a class! To get that 13% though they had to order a $600, so that kept the production up there and growing.
In March we connected with a Director’s husband at a finance company who offered to help our consultants get start up inventory! We were on our way! We were moving people up, getting their wholesale ordered and building their personal teams. Even with the drop in retail selling, we still managed to keep production up as everyone was committed to the goal.
On the last day of June, I knew we did our best but there was no way we were going to be able to hit our mark. Every order that could have been ordered came in. All former consultants reached, all prospects called, every team member who could order, ordered. I at least wanted to hit the extended Trip numbers.
I prayed about it and asked God for help. Suddenly I got the idea that I could call all my relatives for space on their cards and with the huge commission check I would get in JULY, pay them all back! I got busy on the phone! It took 5 hours of convincing and pleading but my miracle happened! We crossed the Finish line in the $850,000 Circle of Excellence! All Glory to GOD!
I stand here today representing a Unit of women who are so deep in debt they could barely afford to be here, but they came anyway because they wanted to see our Unit in the Spotlight! As I prepare for the chargebacks that are sure to come from this year end push, I also look forward to representing Christie’s “Chargers” on the Top Trip and the NEW YEAR, where in Mary Kay, you can make your dreams come true!
Set your sights, Ladies and find a way or make a way! And we’ll see you at the TOP!

Yeah I’m surprised she didn’t thank God for bring the storms that killed over 30 people but got MK an extra day of ordering! Shame on her for forgetting that all important part. Now God is going to punish her fiercely with extra chargebacks and maybe (if we are lucky) drop her back down to a lowly IBC with great dreams and plans for her future…

If you are seriously going to seminar, the last place you should find yourself is on this negative sight. It’s unfortunate that these “poor” ladies are so miserable with their own lives and happiness that they need to attack legitimate direct marketing companies. Have they tried all the others, pampered chef, lia sophia, party light, etc, and FAILED at them also?!?! Success in any business is ALWAYS a choice.

Dear Sensible One: All MLMs are bad. 99% of people lose money in them. Unlike a real business, your success is not correlated to your effort. Thanks for stopping by!

In the case of MLM, the stat is actually almost 100%, but I rounded down to 99% to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I am quite happy with my life, thank you. Getting myself away from direct marketing companies was great. Getting others away from direct marketing companies is even better.
Between my assorted friends I have seen them try, and lose miserably, with at least 10 different “legitimate” direct marketing companies.
It wasn’t due to lack of commitment, lack of enthusiasm, or lack of effort. A few managed to get a downline started, only to have the company “reassign” their recruits to someone else – WITHOUT compensating them – when they failed to meet “goals”. One fellow, who enthusiastically marketed his MLM 24/7, lost his apartment and was reduced to freeloading from friends, sleeping on their couch until they threw him out. All the rest were left with unsellable merchandise cluttering up their shelves, company sales materials and order forms filling their drawers, and angry ex-friends who didn’t trust them any more
All the “legitimate” direct marketing companies promised the same:
–It costs almost nothing to get started, and a LOW LOW monthly minimum to continue.
–The products will fly off your shelves.
–Educate people on how much better off they will be when they make a “lifestyle change” and they will beat a path to your door. (Your “lifestyle change discount” is determined by your activity and your downline’s activity, which is usually too low to qualify unless you buy a bunch of overpriced stuff you don’t want or need.)
–Call 10 people, say the right Magic Words, and you will get 4 appointments, 2 sales, and 10 referrals. (Do you see the perpetual motion machine math? The numbers are widely quoted and completely unsupported.)
–The business you build is your own. (A lie – see the above comment about your downline being reassigned.)
–In just a few short years you will be able to stop working entirely and just live off of monthly commissions from your downline. (This is one of the biggest lies parroted by Direct Marketing companies.)
–Anyone can do it. You can do it. We’re not looking for the Sales Type. (This is intentional. Professional sales types don’t fall for the BS spouted by direct marketing companies.)
Success in direct marketing/MLM is not a choice. Sorry. Failure is the norm.

Success in direct marketing/MLM is defined by how well you lie and manipulate to keep the scam going. That’s it.

Dear Sensible One,
It appears that you have not done adequate research on MK or the MLM Business Model. Here is a link from the FTC’s website on MLMs:
http://business.ftc.gov/documents/inv08-bottom-line-about-multi-level-marketing-plans “It’s best not to get involved in plans where the money you make is based primarily on the number of distributors you recruit and your sales to them, rather than on your sales to people outside the plan who intend to use the products.” There’s a lot more information on that website that you may find interesting.
Also…this is not the only site dedicated to sharing the truth about MK. I have found two others, plus a yahoo group called ‘MK Recovery”…althought this site is definitely my favorite! And you should put on your thinking cap and ask yourself, “What do these people on PT have to gain by sharing their experiences, or telling the truth about MK?” Why, nothing. Just the satisfaction of helping others avoid financial ruin, loss of marriages & friendships. What does your sales director have to gain by convincing you to recruit, recruit, recruit? Well, I think you can answer that question yourself. And Sensible One, why are you here? You call us poor ladies that are miserable with our lives…that is SO NEGATIVE. You are desperately in denial, and I pray that you will see the truth before you ruin your life.

Answer Cards to be given to MLM recruiters:
Notice to all MLM recruiters:
Thanks, but my odds are far better gambling in Vegas-and without squandering my social capital!
SORRY- but I don’t do drugs, porn, gambling, or MLM.
Here is my $20 tribute for allowing me to keep my money and my friends.
When you achieve a net income (after ALL expenses) from your MLM program, show me your tax return as proof, and then I will look at it.
A regular job may be like a small life boat. but I’d rather be on one that floats than the MLM Titanic!
Hope you enjoyed.

yeah- that speach about sums it up truthfully. I’ve been to my share of seminars… and honestly, they are all the same- same format, same silly dance numbers, same sappy songs, same stupid mantra’s. It’s very annoying and I’m so very glad that it will NEVER be in my summer plans again. What a waste of time, money, energy and good sleep.
