You’re Just Bitter Because You Didn’t Succeed in Mary Kay
An email I received from a very “successful” woman who has been in Mary Kay a whole month!
I started selling Mary Kay a little over a month ago, and I happened to run across your site this morning. I find your site to be extremely one-sided. Of course, not everyone is cut out to run a business, not everyone is cut out to be a Mary Kay consultant, or you would find everyone selling it, if it was sooo easy.
I am not sure what kind of Sales Directors those people on your site have but they were obviously not of any caliber. I was never lied to or told that I NEEDED to buy inventory. I still haven’t bought any inventory yet and have already made over $2,000 for my family from Mary Kay. And I do not have any other source of income. I have three children under the age of four and I don’t have much time to put into my business but I am doing well.
I thinkk your website unfairly takes the positions of those who could not fit into the Mary Kay program and makes it seem like a scam or an illegitimate business. That is a ridiculous thing as I happen to be finding success with this business. But like I said, to each his own, but if you want your cause to be taken seriously, consider talking in facts, and not taking the words of a few bitter people and claiming it as the Mary Kay Way.

I challenge this person to share the proof of her $4000 in sales. Or has she sold only $2000 and is calling it “made over $2000″? Regardless, it is rare for a consultant to sell $2000 in just over a month. I cannot fathom a new consultant selling $4000! Assuming she has “made” $2000, I challenge this person to also show her expenses for the month – hostess gifts (free product, discounts, etc…..), shipping (of the product to her or to each customer), transportation (fuel, tolls, parking), website/business supplies, child care, MK “training” meetings, cost of starter kit, and the list goes on and on. If this person were to analyze the dollars, perhaps she wouldn’t be so keen to call this site content the “words of a few bitter people”. In addition, it would be interesting to see if this consultant can sustain the business at this level. We know she cannot. Check back with us next month and let us know how much you have made, and whether you still have not been pressured to buy inventory, or lied to by your Sales Director of “caliber”.

That 2K ‘for’ her family were probably sold ‘to’ her family and friends. Blind ambition if she thinks that will perpetuate. Also, you are so correct in identifying the other expenses which she conveniently left out. If she has no inventory, then she is paying a pretty penny just in shipping costs alone.

Thank you for using proper English. From your post you sound alot like me so here is what I would ask you to do. When you hear or read something from your higher ups that sound exactly like what someone has said on here, come back. Just keep everything you have read on this site in the back of your mind.

Congrats on any sales without inventory! I honestly mean that. If you had either 2000 or 4000 in wholesale it means you did have to order inventory to meet the demands of those sales thus your recruiter and SD count you as a qualified recruit. A qualified recruit is someone who orders 600 wholesale within the first month.
Here’s the problem. In this first month, I’m guessing that most of your sales came from family and friends. They love you and want to “support” you (not the product) by buying something. Who are you going to sell to next month? Then the next? And then in 4 months? You will have run through everyone of your family members, friends, church friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc. In fact, some of them will start to walk away from you when they see you coming because they don’t want to “help” you again. The purchases you had in this great first month were pity purchases. It won’t keep happening.

How can you sell over $2000 and not have ordered any inventory?! No one wants makeup that bad that they will wait that long for their product! Love these Kaybots and all their over exaggerated success stories. Homeless people collecting change on freeway off ramps make more money than people in Mary Kay.

EVERY MLM novice crows in wonder at that first month, that first party, that first windfall. But as the poster above pointed out, it is usually 90% friends and relatives who dig deep just as they would for a baby shower.
But then you’re on your own. A desoloate, sad place in the world of MLM’s.
The comments from ne MK gals always sounds the same. Scared to death and wanting to convince themselves that all is well.
So they sputter and scold those who spent months, years in Mary Kay and did everything humanly possible to turn a profit.
And those long-suffering experts on the yawning pink chasm of Mary Kay sigh and say,”Sure. In a few months you’ll be back, singing a different tune, and we’ll be waiting for you.”
Because, like parents, you can’t warn these neophytes away from the mistake. They have to go through it to understand.
I just wish she were not a single mom. Those are the ones who suffer most, I think, when the pink grenade goes off in their hand.

So if you sold that much you will have to place an order to get everything that your friends or family members bought what would be your profit from that after all the business supplies, gwp, other misc exspenses. Come back next month and tell us how you are doing then

It’s always the ones who have been in Mary Kay for a full hot minute.. Okay, my first month, I sold a ton of product too but it was that warm market. My neighbor loved MK products and she’d come over and spend, spend, spend. But once she had her skin care and her make up she was set. for quite awhile. Once that warm market dried up it was so much different. Then the economy tanked and it was abysmal. I have been completely out of MK for over 3 years now. I can’t imagine trying to schlep this stuff now with the economy as bad as it is.

Wow! A whole month!! Well that’s great. Get back to us 6 months from now. And be truthful to yourself. Keep your wits about you so that you can objectively weigh ALL of your expenses against your sales and see how you are in black and white. Keep your ears open. The sweet words said to you to get you to sign up will be repeated on many. Question the sincerity of the words and listen to your gut. I’m not bitter but after being pink for 4 1/2 years a star consultant, and a red jacket , I’m a heck of a lot wiser.

The disconnect when telling us about “sales” and “no inventory” is always so amusing to me. If you have no inventory what did you sell them? Guest event tickets?
You sold PRODUCT. That’s “inventory”… and you didn’t sell it one product at a time…because that’s NO DISCOUNT. Meaning NO PROFIT. SOOOOooooooo
You BOUGHT inventory.

You know, the allegation of being ‘bitter’ is thrown around a lot by the Kaybots. Thinking about it, isn’t it normal to be bitter about being conned and ripped off?
What one does with one’s bitterness is another issue, but I think starting or contributing to a website like Pink Truth to try to protect other women from being treated in the same way is a mentally and emotionally healthy way of dealing with a justifiable level of bitterness. It channels the distress outward into helping others rather than letting it fester.

I found this site trying to get information on how to prepare small business taxes and this email was the headliner!!! Oh I wish I could say I have made $2000 in profit since I started in July 2012! I am a full time Active Duty Sailor, mother to a 2 year old, and a wife to also a Navy sailor. When I started my business it sounded great like pink butterflies and stars were in my eyes. But then, when my director was hounding me to buy a large amount of inventory and wouldn’t leave me alone. I actually ended up taking out a loan for this and I kick myself in the butt for it every day! Mind you I only started out buying around $800 in wholesale instead of the minimum of $1600 that my director wanted me to fork out! I was so discouraged I am not even sure why I am still doing it… actually this month I went inactive and haven’t bought $200 in wholesale for quite some time. I have spent so much money out of my pocket for clothes to “fit” in I don’t wear skirts or dresses I wear a uniform 5-6 times a week for 10+ hours a day. And I was duped into buying packing materials, gift bags and wrapping cellophane for the holiday time. My Director is definitely one of those crazy tons of energy try to get you to believe in the business and you can do it if you work at it kind of person. Please I barely made it through the holidays without going in debt and that was without me and my husband buying gifts for each other. So after all of this rambling on about how I am not succeeding in the MK biz. I hope you really are succeeding! And it’s not all smoke mirrors for you.

A whole month and she considers that a success. When you blow through your “warm market” that’s friends, co-workers, family, church goers etc…..then come back and talk to us. We will be waiting to soften the blow. Sales are always good when you first start out. Heck, I was able to recruit 3 people in my first 2 months of MK. Of course that all came a tumbling down when one recruite stopped before she even started because she was allergic to the products. Another recruit went MIA-probably couldn’t afford it. The third recruit just didn’t have the funds to keep up with ordering product every month after she exhausted her warm market.
You haven’t been pressured to buy inventory because you already purchased 2000 dollars worth of inventory via your warm market. Wait until the next end of the month and listen for your SD to “pressure” you into “book, sell, recruit’. You will feel the pressure soon enough if you don’t order to help pay for your uplines commission. That;’s the whole purpose of MK. You’re find out soon enough. BTW-if business is so great, why are you hear on this site?

THIS is the key, my friends. The loudest, most ardent defenders of the Mary Kay business are:
A. The brand-new recruits
B. The deceivers parked on top of the pyramid (the NSDs.)
This fresh recruit is still flying high on the Kool-Aid she’s been given; she’s even parroting the words given her by her mentors. How can a person who has only done Mary Kay a month , has VERY little knowledge of how the business actually works, and whose view of the business is coming from those above her accurately say, “Not everyone is cut out to be a Mary Kay consultant.?” How does she even know?
She only knows because that’s what she was TOLD. It is wisdom to take the views of the fresh recruits with the smallest grain of salt, as they consist of all emotion and no logic.
