Pink Cadillac Drivers Earn Big Bucks?
The most clever marketing ploy ever instituted by Mary Kay is the PINK CADILLAC! It screams success. The general public sees a woman in a pink Cadillac, and assumes she is very successful and earning the big bucks in Mary Kay.
The sad reality is that most of the Cadillac drivers are making about $30,000 to $40,000 per year. That’s not executive income! And these women are in the very upper ranks of Mary Kay.
Below is a snippet of my interview on HuffPost Live, talking about pink Cadillac drivers. One correction: I have estimated that about 300 women in Mary Kay in the U.S. are making a six figure income after business expenses… out of about 650,000 consultants.

I always knew there was something I wasn’t being told about those ladies who drive the pink Caddies. Another pink lie!

Something else that affects earnings is “downline”. Many of these upperlings stay put because they are bolstered by who is beneath them.
So while out one side of their mouths they say,”if it is to be its up to me”…the reality is the luck of the recruiting pool.
You can’t really take credit for work ethic if your “business” was built on the backs of a few race horses! Unit Directors who have a gen-u-wine seller (non recruiter) selling to a specific market, have been able to “ride” the horse for years. Additionally, a few DIQ’s drive production as well. So what really did the sales Director provide except a Unit meeting, newsletter, timely postcards/ and ordering bait?
The main thing is that the upperlings are “sellers” of a fantasy, targeted to the major need areas of vulnerable people. That’s what they do-that is what they are compensated for. Find the replacements, move them on to the career path, replace the flushed out Directors, rinse and repeat.
There ARE good sellers of mary kay products, just not many. They don’t recruit…
For those who cant be an endless nuisance to their customers or pushy with strangers, theirs is the recruiting path. They turn to their SD or NSD to sell “the dream”.
But I guess they aren’t lying…they do say they are selling the dream, and I guess that is what you call something that only happens in your mind, while sleeping. We should have taken them at their word!

Whenever I see a pink car, I see Mary Kay success in the sense of, “Hey, the woman driving that had success in ordering plenty of “optional” product and getting her unit and new recruits to do the same.”
For readers who may not know, that’s how MK awards the use of its “free” career cars: the award is based on product orders, NOT product sales. It’s akin to giving Walgreens a prize because they stocked their shelves with cough syrup.
Except that Walgreens will have no trouble selling that cough syrup at full retail to end customers and won’t need to convince those customers that they need to open their own Walgreens so they can truly enrich others and become the women that God wants them to be.

Whenever I see I a pink Cadillac, other than an NSD, I think, heavy co-op. Both times, while driving pink, I went into the “Red.” My formal off spring is in her forth and has always paid a co-op during some period of the 2 year period. Directors and consultants it’s much cheaper to go to the Cadillac dealer and lease our own. That is, if you haven’t ruin your credit by purchasing unnecessary product on your credit cards.
2013 Cadillac SRX FWD Lease Special
$369/MO X 39 MONTHS Vs (MK co-op up to $900)
w/$1999 DUE At signing
MSRP $38,030. (vs finding $384,000 W/S for 2yrs) ULTRA LOW MILEAGE (10K PER YEAR) LEASE. TAXES, TAGS, FEES, AND 1ST PAYMENT EXTRA. MUST QUALIFY FOR CREDIT

The alternator on my little old car died yesterday and that got me wondering about the upkeep costs for those Caddies. Taking a Cadillac to the dealer to get it fixed is NOT cheap and I can’t imagine MK picking up the tab for any expenses incurred with their cars. Even taking it to someplace like Hibdon’s, Midas, or the local Good Ol Boys on the Corner is going to cost you. They upsell you on the parts and you’ll bleed out the nose in labor costs. I wouldn’t want that type of car if I was only pulling in 30K-40K a year. I couldn’t afford it when things go wrong.

There aren’t any repair costs on the Cadillac because it is under warranty while the director has it. So anything that goes wrong is covered.
