To the Pink Truth Critics

Written by Happy and Free

To all of our critics… We were once you. We know it seems hard to believe that we could ever say anything against Mary Kay. We know your director, your Sr. Director, your National Sales Director tells you this website is for losers, to block out the negative, and that we failed because we didn’t work. We know that you think our failure was our own fault. We thought the same thing about… and then our pink bubble popped.

Don’t believe us?

  • We were your star consultants every quarter, because that $25 prize was worth it (it wasn’t).
  • We were your DIQs, because we believed when our director told us we were called to leadership (they say this to everyone).

  • We were your free car drivers (until the co-pays start rolling in and the $200 insurance payment… They do not pay 80% of your insurance like so many of us were told).
  • We were your directors, living the “dream” in the “big girls club” (and then our hours increased, our stress increased, and our integrity began to falter).
  • We were your Cadillac drivers, because that is the pinnacle of success (only to realize it your empire was still fragile).
  • We were the ones who walked the stage, won the bumblebees and the coveted diamond rings (only we realized that these numbers aren’t based on what you sell, but what you order; and directors can order for recruits and have it sent to themselves… we didn’t think it was true either, until we saw it done over, and over, and over. And yes, we did it because we were told that this is what you do.)
  • We believed our NSDs and our Directors would never do anything or ask us to do anything that would affect us negatively.
  • We believed that Mary Kay is run only with the highest integrity and that Profit and Loss should mean People and Love.
  • We believed that we could get where we wanted to go if only we worked harder and took God as our business partner.
  • We did everything right, and it still didn’t work.
  • We worked more than the 20hrs a week we were told it took, and it still didn’t work.
  • We won the cars, the rings, the bees, and still the money wasn’t flowing.
  • We bought the inventory, the limited edition, the Christmas products, and our sales barely broke even or led to significant debt.
  • We believed our Sr. Director when she said, just invest in one more month and everything will turn around, and then it all still crumbled.

Please hear us when we tell you, we know why you think we’re crazy. We know why you think Mary Kay is your safe place. We know some of you stay in simply because you feel trapped. But there is a way out, you can start over. It is hard and painful, like surgery (or a car crash if you just jump off the Mary Kay train) but it is possible.

And if you still don’t believe us, do your own taxes (a practice that is discouraged because you’ll see the money isn’t there). Check out your schedule C from last year, or calculate it this year. And remember, we don’t get paid for this… But when you do what you director tells you is best, she most definitely does.

Just be honest with yourself… And know that there is life after Mary Kay. And that life is abundantly sweet.

Absolutely, you forgot we were anchors in building national areas, monthly consistency club winners, and stretchers. We were told 100 skincare clients would take and keep us anywhere, then they changed the lines.

It is a series of little lies that become bigger lies. Directors lined up with their highest pay check (Which was years ago). A new IBC in my neighborhood praised for her sales (when I saw those products being sold from a beauty salon). The Conferences and Seminar where directors were nasty to each other. Crammed into a room sleeping with 3 other strangers. The hokey sequined dresses where Directors and NSD’s pretended they were part of the Academy awards. A new director arriving with such enthusiasm, walking across the stage and then quitting days after seminar ended. The I stories that seemed to get more convoluted every time they were repeated. Little by little the stories of financial abuse surfaced. Learning that this was an mlm (which was traumatic because I then realized I had been conned and manipulated for my SD and NSD’s personal gain). Of course when my NSD stood in front of a group and mentioned she’d been in therapy, had lost several units and cars, I began to suspect the real price of faking it till you make it. My NSD was cold as ice and knew MK personally. My NSD was able to recruit in three separate countries in order to maintain her NSD status. My SD stayed exactly the same for decades and was creepy. My SD stayed there with the help of her husband and stealing the customers and recruits of DIQ’s and even a Director she sabotaged. The director eventually made it and never had a meeting with my SD unless obligated to do so.

I wish that y’all would proofread your articles better ! I find so many mistakes in spelling, improper use of words , etc . I enjoy your articles but the errors take away from them.

    1. TRACY

Interesting comment, albeit untrue. While there may be occasional errors due to oversight, there aren’t “so many” … except when we’re posting the nonsense sent to us by MK supporters. Thanks for your unsolicited and untrue input! 🙂

      1. Kimberley W. Parten

Oh really? Well, I will print out several articles and correct them and send them back to you- for example, one of the newer articles uses “effect” when it should be “affect” etc….many many mistakes like this.
I would be happy to print them out and send them back to you.

        1. TRACY

You do that, Kimberley W. Parten. I’m not saying the articles are all perfect, as we have errors from time to time. But there are not “many many mistakes.” I’ll wait to hear from you.

What is VERY much true is how MK loves to say their products are “revolutionary”, yet the BeautyBlender, which, if you watch any YouTube videos about it, does NOT absorb product. False claims, yet again! And the REAL BeautyBlender puffs up when it hits water, as well.

My observation on the whole grammar issue is this: Far more HORRIFIC, intentional misuse of grammar usually comes from someone still in MK. True! (Those of us already out and in the professional world with benefits have to represent ourselves better than that and can’t get away with it.)

          Lighten up!

        3. MLM Radar

          My dear Kimberley W. Parten,

Did you skip your high school English class on the day when recognizing run-on sentences was taught?

I look forward to seeing your grammar corrections.

When real MK consultants are being quoted, the spelling errors are intentionally left in the way they were written.

This website gets enough irate complaints that MK is being shown in a bad light. We don’t need to add to that by being accused of misquoting the people making the complaints.
