You Don’t Understand Mary Kay!

Here is a comment a Kaybot left for us. Apparently after 12 years of Pink Truth, we just don’t understand Mary Kay. And the universe is going to get us for being so negative!

I’ve been in MK for 15 years and it’s been a very positive and totally enriching experience for me and my family as a single mom.  It’s just too bad that you obviously have nothing better to do than send negativity out into the universe.  With all that negativity going out there you will get it back.  It’s called the Law of Cause and Effect, you’re making the cause and will get the effect.
I think your intent may be to help others but there is no secret to all that you’ve written.  The marketing plan isn’t a pyramid because team building is a choice.  Mary Kay Ash designed this business so that if all you wanted to do is make money from sales, you definitely could.  It eliminates all the problems that come from consultants and directors from money problems.

You obviously don’t understand the concept of being your own retailer and providing immediate customer service to your customers.  I’ve done it both ways by choice and spent too much time, energy and gas placing orders and setting up deliveries, then delivering product.  When you tear apart the scripts, you’re tearing apart Mary Kay Ash’s own words of how to work in direct sales before she even created the company.

You know, Mary Kay, Inc. has no control over the few who have used this business for advancement using non-MK principles and have obviously somehow hurt or burned some people’s feelings, like yours.  Neither do they have control over those like you, who trash the good that has come from this business.

It’s sad that you feel so strongly a need to use your time to perpetuating this negativity. Post this comment, won’t you?  That would be being honest.  Give a fair view of the whole picture.

“It eliminates all the problems that come from consultants and directors from money problems.” – Uhhh, what exactly are you trying to say here, because…whaaat? #headscratcher

“I’ve done it both ways by choice and spent too much time, energy and gas placing orders and setting up deliveries, then delivering product.” – Don’t think this is supporting your case, but carry on…

“When you tear apart the scripts, you’re tearing apart Mary Kay Ash’s own words of how to work in direct sales before she even created the company.” Say what? I mean…just…whaaa?? I highly doubt it…but the catch phrases are pretty outdated, so…

“Give a fair view of the whole picture.” – OH BELIEVE US, they have…

Not to pay devil’s advocate, but where does it say she’s getting spousal, or even child, support? If that’s the case, where does it state she’s using it for MK?

I’m sure there’s support from experience for what you’re claiming. I know I’ve seen it personally what you’re explaining. Just doesn’t state it in this story.

As I said, your interpretation may vary. If you have a better theory please post it.

This is a woman who proudly proclaims herself a single mother. And she thinks her Mary Kay “business” is funding her life. But she’s not an NSD. She would have said do. (If she is, she’s lying by omission by portraying herself as an ordinary consultant.)

But we’ve all experienced and seen enough to know that no amount of MK earnings, below NSD level, can fund anyone’s life.

So the money is coming from somewhere else. Not a job, she doesn’t have one. Not likely a family trust fund. Those are exceedingly rare. And not from a 401k either. With school age kids she wouldn’t have saved much, and the divorce lawyers probably got their fees from it being liquidated.

And that leaves the child support money, which is Very Common among MK consultants.

If you have a better theory please post it.

My take: This is a divorced woman whose husband left her because she got too deep into MK and wouldn’t look at reality. She claimed in the divorce that she needed generous spousal support and won (which contradicts her MK income claims, but hey that was just for the court). She also won primary child custody (because she’s not working….) and got a very generous child support payment, which she’s embezzling from to fund her MK expenses.

So she really has NO CLUE whether she’s making money at MK, but with nontaxable support money coming in to fill in the gaps she’s she thinks her MK tax deductions are really great.

By the way, I mean it when I use the term embezzling here. Ex-husband entrusted her with child support money to pay for children’s expenses, and she’s diverting a lot of it to MK.

Anyway, that’s my thought on what’s happening. Your perspective may vary.

When you tear apart the scripts, you’re tearing apart Mary Kay Ash’s own words

That’s the whole idea … we show how SHE designed this company, SHE started many of the lies and deceptive practices, and how SHE started the scrambling for status because it made money for her.

The way she said that bothered me, a lot. She made it sound like Mary Kay’s words were somehow sacred. That analyzing the scripts was some kind of heresy, and questioning the great Mary Kay was blasphemous.

Yeah, she’s in deep. Really deep.

So if the end game is making money from sales alone, how much net profit did you make last year?

In all my years in MK, in not one year did my sales surpass my commissions as a Director. Which requires recruiting. Do you not see that?

OK, this comment makes no sense:

I’ve done it both ways by choice and spent too much time, energy and gas placing orders and setting up deliveries, then delivering product.

So are we to believe that the “setting up deliveries, then delivering” part doesn’t happen because she has a big inventory? Does she store it in her car? That’s a quick way to ruin your inventory.

And are we also to believe that she never has to place small orders because she always has more than enough on hand to fill her customer orders? The only way that would be true would be if she bought multiples of every variation of every product. Which leads to other problems.

Maybe she is an NSD after all…

Makes me nuts that we were indoctrinated into believing that Mrs. Ash was a saint.

She clearly was not. Her persona was manufactured and exploited by certain Mary Kay big wigs in order to build a cult of personality for the purpose of controlling all the recruits, maximizing their,..ah hem, contributions. Her NSD daughters continued the indoctrination…and this month they head to Dallas for another dose of scripted cult think. Yes there are some good things that happen from being affiliated with Mary Kay, but over all , you lose, and you lose big if you get suckered up the career path.

You cannot make money ONLY selling product! I ran my MK “business” debt free and only sold product. I was in the top 5 for production every month for my unit. At the end of the year I actually only made $50 according to my taxes even with being a top producer. I quit….the numbers don’t add up and I challenge ANY
MK consultant to show me the tax returns where you only made money SELLING!
