Begging You to Attend Seminar

Yes, this is just one example of the pathetic emails that are sent by Mary Kay sales directors and national sales directors… trying to get consultants to go to Seminar. If you heed no other advice on Pink Truth, please hear me on this: Do not waste your time or money on seminar. Don’t leave your kids behind. Don’t drag your husband along. Don’t waste the money.

Dear Area Directors and Consultants,

I know that IF you have “already decided” that you are NOT going to Seminar, you are RESISTING MY BEGGING .

BUT … I am giving this one last try. This article was tooooo good to not pass on. If you ARE going, read it for RE-CONFIRMATION.

If I hadn’t RISKED THE TIME, MONEY, EFFORT, AND ENERGY to GO TO SEMINAR AGAIN AND AGAIN … I certainly wouldn’t have just returned from FOUR COUNTRIES and almost FOUR WEEKS in Europe !!!

SEMINAR – It’s Worth Going!

You have been hearing the Seminar Buzzzzzz and sure … some of you probably think it is just one big party! Sure, Seminar is fun, but it’s so much more. It’s an exciting learning experience that motivates and teaches you in just four days what it could take months or even years to learn on your own. Seminar is an investment in your career as a Professional Business Owner. Yes, an investment in your vOcation, not a vAcation from your business!

In my corporate life I attended Seminars, Trade Shows, Conferences, etc many times throughout the year! The companies I worked for gladly paid to send me all over the county and sometimes internationally for these events as THEY BELIEVED IN INVESTING IN THEIR EMPLOYEES TO MAXIMIZE THEIR POTENTIAL.

POINT TO PONDER: Doesn’t YOUR business deserve the same?

In Mary Kay we have two main corporate events – Seminar in Dallas and Career Conference locally. We should be certain we take advantage them! I guarantee you will get MORE than your money’s worth from Seminar. I also know that there is a gremlin talking in your ear RIGHT NOW trying to talk you out of going …

Your Gremlin might say something like:

1. “I don’t have the money.” That’s exactly why you NEED to go. Put something aside from each sale. By holding 1-2 extra skin care classes between now and Seminar, you’ll help earn your way. The anticipation of going will increase your productivity BEFORE Seminar, and you will be even more productive when you get home AFTER Seminar. Trust me, if “I don’t have the money” is your objection, you cannot afford not to go! You need the tools from this Tool Box called Seminar!

2. “I can’t leave my children.” Children need a break from mom too. I was a child once … I found this to be very true! They’ll appreciate you more than ever when you get back – and you’ll be refreshed and energized. Begin making arrangements now. What this trip might cost you in inconvenience; it will pay off in your future!

3. “My husband doesn’t want me to go.” Are you sure or is this an assumption? You know, sometimes, we push our insecurities off on our spouses. If you say, “I don’t think I should go to Seminar … it seems expensive… I hate to leave the children … I’ll be gone a long time … etc. What do you think?” Most likely he will say, “Yes, it does seem… expensive … like you will be gone a long time … I will have the children all by myself …”. Men are very logical creatures though, and if your husband is anything like mine, HE HAS SEEN THE COMMISSION CHECKS IN THE BACK OF AN APPLAUSE MAGAZINE. Plus, just think, what would you say if your husband’s job required him to be away from home for 3-4 days in order to better his productivity and paycheck? Would YOU tell him that he couldn’t/shouldn’t attend? Give him a chance. Talk with him. Heck, take him with you? He’ll love it!

4. “I don’t deserve to go, because I didn’t meet my goals this year.” “Oh PUHlease!” Do you realize that even the TOP DIRECTORS ARE NOT WHERE THEY WANT TO BE??? We ALL want something MORE. That is WHY we are SUCCESSFUL business owners! Seminar attendance is not just a reward for a great year (although if you had one, we’ll sure celebrate it.) Seminar is the catalyst for making next year great! For many people, Seminar is more significant when they do NOT achieve their goals. It becomes turning point. Go hungry, learn, grow and make this Seminar YOUR turning point!

5. “I am a new Consultant. I’ll wait and go next year.” Hmmm … this sounds familiar .. I think I used this one! Seriously, do you want to wait a whole year to make a lot of money and be very successful? Why postpone your success for a year? If you want an awesome rookie year, you have the best reason of all to go. Give yourself a head start!

6. “I went to Career Conference. Isn’t that enough?” Ever heard the phrase, “You ain’t seen nuthin’ yet?” While the regional conference is great, it’s a weekly Unit Meeting compared to Seminar. NO joke. NO comparison.

Hear this message from my heart. My first Seminar I qualified for priority seating .. I did not go. My second Seminar again I qualified for priority seating .. I did not go. I HAD ALL THESE “EXCUSES” OR “REASONS” TOO! Finally, my third year. AFTER I DEBUTED AS A DIRECTOR, EARNED MY FIRST CAR AND HAD ALL KINDS OF STUFF TO CELEBRATE I STILL WAS NOT GOING TO GO … then a Mary Kay girlfriend I NEVER MET called me at 6am all the way from the East Coast to tell me to GET OVER IT AND GET ON A PLANE!! HER ENERGY WAS SO STRONG SHE GAVE ME GOOSEBUMPS OVER THE PHONE!!

The Seminar Experience is so hard to put into words. You know how sometimes we are too close to see clearly? Well that is what was happening with me. I was so bogged down in all the “reasons” & “excuses” not to go! Things I KNEW were LOGICAL reasons not to go. My eyes were opened so wide at Seminar! It is an experience that WILL set you up with the education, the inspiration, the dedication and motivation for the rest of the year!!

Don’t be short-sighted. INVEST IN YOURSELF! As women we are ALWAYS THE LAST PERSON WE SPEND MONEY ON! Don’t you deserve it? I promise, this experience could change YOUR Mary Kay life and financial status! It did mine!

IT’S WORTH IT!

The horrendous breakfasts and stale lunches.
Waiting in a line to use the restroom.
    100° heat.
The egos strutting by that make you feel like a loser.
The classes where you’re told you’re not doing enough.
The bad haircuts and awful makeup.
    Pins.
    More pins.
    NSDs that think they’re celebrities.
    NSDs that sign autographs.
Queen of Sales that won’t elaborate on how they did it.
Clapping for Court or Sales that takes an hour to go through.
Not getting my full return on investment in free product credit.
    Pins.
Heels that are way too high.
    Director suits that don’t fit.
    Director suits that aren’t comfortable.
    Stifling hot restrooms.

I’ll stop right there. After over 10 years of going to Seminar, it’s the same thing every year, and I don’t miss a bit of it.

And in the “real” business world they’re considered jokes. I used to recruit for real “executive level” positions, and also hired for businesses I managed. When I saw Mary Kay listed on a resume, it went in the “nope” file. Sure, the top NSDs don’t have to worry about that, they’re lifers in MK. But the thousands of directors who won’t ever get to that level definitely do have to worry about it.

Went once. Very stupid waste of money and time. Go on a real vacation with your family instead and get away from MK. You will love your life and family more/ better:)

Hmmmm, someone who doesn’t have the $ DOES NOT HAVE THE $ and I want to know what money to put aside from the imaginary sales that are happening. Oh, holding an extra 1 to 2 skin classes a week will work! Of course it will, people are not RUNNING away from someone attempting to get them to hold a skin care class or muffins and makeovers, pizza and possibilities or whatever stupid drivel MK can come up with. Once again, a Kaybot claiming your legitimate reason for NOT doing something is the very reason you MUST do it. Who is gonna pay the credit card when the bill comes? You know MK subpar crap sells itself don’t you! Why, if you were struggling before Seminar, if you go there is a magic wand that will be waved and miracle of miracles you will become more proficient at booking, frontloading and recruiting. Never mind you have been working your butt off to achieve all that already and MK just gives you some dumb ass platitude, small sacrifice for big gains, it sells itself, you have to show up to go up, the speed of the leader is the speed of the gang, you CAN’T sell from an empty wagon. Need I go on? You know Seminar is the ANSWER you have been desperately looking for!! Oh, wait a minute Seminar where we have been dying brains pink since 1975. Join our pink cult please!!! We don’t want you to see the light! We need more people who are susceptible to our rah rah sessions and BEE-LIEVE in our pink bubble! Shhhh, don’t let anyone pop it!!!

    2. “I can’t leave my children.” Children need a break from mom too. I was a child once … I found this to be very true! I can’t leave my children. Well, most people WANT to be w/their children especially while they are still very young.
They appreciate you more than ever when you get back and you will be refreshed and energized. The heat in Dallas won’t make you wilt, having to dress in pantyhose and hot clothes and sharing rooms w/other women. Substandard food being served and the heat, heat, heat of Dallas! Did I mention the heat? Being herded everywhere like cattle to rah rah sessions! Why, I am getting all atingle just thinking about it. NOT!!!!! I would rather be with MY family enjoying time w/them than listen to a bunch of crap about how MK is so great, my TIME being monopolized by this charade of a legitimate company. What I pay for in inconvenience will pay off in my future. A real job, w/real benefits, vacation time when I want it and being w/my family on MY terms. I don’t want to have to dress up, wear makeup and wear panty hose and closed toe shoes. I am gonna go swim in the pool w/my family and have fun on my time and skip all this crap!!!

    3. “My husband doesn’t want me to go.” Are you sure or is this an assumption? You know, sometimes, we push our insecurities off on our spouses. I can’t imagine ANY man wanting to be in Dallas in the heat!!! Good thing most men are logical and stop their spouses from this charade! He has seen the commission checks in the back of an applause magazine. Were chargebacks talked about, actual SALES to retail customers, NOT IBCs and directors, etc. If my husband ‘s job required him to be away for 3 or 4 days, I am all for it b/c the COMPANY he works for will be paying for the food, room, etc. Marriage is supposed to be TEAMWORK and not about “husband unaware plan” and financial decisions should be made TOGETHER!!! Some people truly do not have the $ to go to Seminar and guilting someone about NOT going is just wrong. You don’t know what bills that family has, what their goals are and it is not up to YOU to determine that someone MUST go to Seminar. That is a FAMILY decision that should be made together and the person may NOT want to go.

I don’t deserve to go b/c I didn’t meet my goals this year? Well, maybe that is a humongous hint that this “business” isn’t financially profitable. Top directors aren’t where they want to be? Well, unless they have EVERYONE they see, meet or whatever recruited for this sham of a company, of course they aren’t where they want to be. This is company is NOTHING more than a pyramid scheme, and people come and go all the time. Of course, we all want something more, but this company is nothing more than smoke screen and mirrors. There is NO substance to this company and pyramid schemes collapse. And please don’t tell me how long MK has been around, blah blah blah. Heard it all before. You all are successful business owners? If someone owns a business can’t they advertise, stock as they want etc? You can’t sell the business to someone else, take it w/you etc. MK controls what you can and can’t do. You got strings attached to this business. Seminar more significant when goals aren’t met? Seminar just makes you more exhausted and it is not a turning point for most. The goal of Seminar is brainwashing!

Seminar is NOT going to make someone successful and a new consultant (heck even a consultant who has been in awhile) does not have the financial where withal to go. Oh, that is right just book some more skin classes, after all people are just wanting to do that!!!

    6. “I went to Career Conference. Isn’t that enough?” Ever heard the phrase, “You ain’t seen nuthin’ yet?” While the regional conference is great, it’s a weekly Unit Meeting compared to Seminar. NO joke. NO comparison.
Once again, just more brainwashing to accomplish at Seminar!!!

Hear this message from my heart. My first Seminar I qualified for priority seating .. I did not go. My second Seminar again I qualified for priority seating .. I did not go. I HAD ALL THESE “EXCUSES” OR “REASONS” TOO! Finally, my third year. It is an experience that WILL set you up with the education, the inspiration, the dedication and motivation for the rest of the year!!
Yup, that is what the brainwashing is supposed to do. Inject more energy into you and make you BEE-LIEVE this is totally doable. Never mind the realities of it all.

Don’t be short-sighted. INVEST IN YOURSELF! As women we are ALWAYS THE LAST PERSON WE SPEND MONEY ON! Don’t you deserve it? I promise, this experience could change YOUR Mary Kay life and financial status! It did mine!
Yup, your financial status will be less $ bc you spent it going to Seminar, thought you were going to learn the magic of selling MK b/c after all it sells itself, but it really doesn’t.

    IT’S WORTH IT!
No, it’s not worth it!!! Me being sane, having $ in my wallet and being w/my family on my terms is worth it. Hey, where is my margarita? I am going to sit by the pool and sip it in peace and quiet!!! Oh, and I can drink b/c this is MY time!!

This is deliberately misleading. One of the FIRST things that gets cut when a company needs to improve its cash flow are conference expenses. You keep up the sales efforts and trim out all the things not 100% related to sales. You cut inventory as low as possible and get REAL CHEAP with office expenses.

“Seminar is an investment in your career as a Professional Business Owner. Yes, an investment in your vOcation, not a vAcation from your business!

What a pile of fetid dingo kidneys! Those events – and I have attended many and was a presenter at many more – are tightly focused on REAL training, and REAL business. REAL facts being presented. REAL skills being learned.

“Seminar is an investment in your career as a Professional Business Owner.” – Except that you’re not a professional business owner. You’re an MLMer. Therefore, the rest of her statements and assumptions are FLAWED.

“A false premise is an incorrect proposition that forms the basis of an argument or syllogism. Since the premise (proposition, or assumption) is not correct, the conclusion drawn may be in error. However, the logical validity of an argument is a function of its internal consistency, not the truth value of its premises.”

You can see how some of her statements “appear” to seem logical WHEN OPERATING ON A FALSE PREMISE.

If you are remotely educated and want to truly understand where you are spending your time and money, you must first identify the truth of what you’re involved with.

-Mary Kay is MLM. You can endless-chain recruit a downline on multiple levels. No denying that. It’s what they encourage for Pete’s sake!

-Then, research MLM. Read the 476 pages by Dr. Jon M. Taylor: https://www.mlmwatch.org/01General/mlm_unmasked_2017.pdf

If Seminar is meant to be a learning experience they want you to embrace, don’t you owe yourself a FREE long read too.

And if you are told not to research, or read PT etc., aren’t you concerned? Might they be brainwashing you and controlling your information?

Ladies, your alarm bells should be ringing loudly. Please don’t ignore them. Do your research outside of your upline’s information chain. These people profit off of you. Think about that. They do not have YOUR best interest in mind. They have “their” interest and pretend otherwise. Ask yourself, are you thinking about your commission check or your new recruits? Thought so, and that’s being done to you.

What are you willing to do to acquire money? Lie, or repeat lies? Research?

We are not begrudging your desire to want something better for yourself. There’s nothing wrong with that. It is HOW and WHAT you are doing to get there. Con artists have nice things too. Should we stop at the vision of nice things? If you are what a Christian is supposed to be, shouldn’t the HOW be your first consideration?

Not to mention you have to share a hotel room with three other people that you don’t know. You have to stay in the hotel that you’re NSD or if you don’t have one Your senior director of picks for you.
The god awful heat and you are running around in pantyhose skirts or dresses and heels. The terribly long lines for the restroom! And worst of all there is no real training you don’t learn anything and usually the “queen of sales” or in my case the “king of sales” was a big fat liar they didn’t sell the product they were selling it online or they were having somebody else sell it online for them and they were just constantly ordering, ordering and ordering so they really should be called the king or queen of ordering!! So what are you really going to learn? I’ll tell you now not a darn thing!!
So take whatever money you might have been thinking about spending at seminar and treat your family to a real vacation with real fun in a place that you really want to go and I’m pretty sure it’s not Dallas!

  7. Weekended

I was in another MLM company that had these must-go-to conferences. I learned nothing more. It was the same wash/rinse/repeat at every conference no matter the location or the cost. Stupid ideas to get more bookings. Stupid ideas to get recruits. It really is indoctrination. They get you pumped up with the idea of $UCCE$$ with ladies in glamourous attire doing the “you go, girl!” speeches. It’s hogwash.

  8. BestDecision

Get this: They only get $70 wholesale credit for going to Seminar. We used to go home with the actual product, but they now make you order it. And it’s now only $70?!

  9. enorth

Pay for the seminar event itself. Pay for flights and other travel expenses. Pay for those slammin’ outfits, gowns, accessories, etc., you’ll need. Don’t forget those “extra” recognition events held by the NSDs. Cecilia James is holding her National Area Banquet July 30. You’ll need to shell out another $75 (no refunds) for that, and formal attire is required.

Be sure to post photos at home before you leave with your suitcase on the bed showing how you pack. When you return, spread out the prizes you earned at seminar. We already know they will be handbags and jewelry; maybe a scarf and a key-chain. And a few of those coveted certificates cranked out by the NSD’s assistant. (Check to make sure your name is spelled correctly.)
