One Woman’s Mary Kay Experience

The reality of the Mary Kay opportunity as told by a Pink Truth member.

I pretty much knew after a couple of months that the Mary Kay opportunity wasn’t for me.  I joined Mary Kay simply because I had just graduated college and needed to put some more structure in my free time.  I was used to my evenings having a schedule and when I no longer had classes to fill that time I looked for something (anything!) to fill my evenings.

I went to a skin care class and enjoyed the consultant and the product so I decided to join.  Since I was relatively new to the area, I was hoping to make a few friends and get a little bit of a discount on some of the product that I used.

Please Don’t Drink the Pink Kool-Aid at Mary Kay Events!

Ever wondered why Mary Kay Cosmetics has events?  The events are scheduled specifically to keep you in the fog and get rid of all that negativity that may have taken over in the meantime.  (Negativity= anything that may cause you to doubt your commitment to your “dream”)

Let’s look at the calendar… Leadership for Directors (ah, the TOP 2%) is scheduled in January.  We are told about the March launch early (always new stuff in Spring, always) and our $175 fee (can’t rememberhow much exactly Tracy, so glad!) includes FREE product, so we can play “show and tell” with our consultants!  So exciting! Can’t afford to go?  That’s EXACTLY why you need to go!

Gems From Career Conference

Makes no difference which one, the scripting goes on! “You wouldn’t let anyone come over and dirty up your house! Why would you let someone dirty up your mind?” This is a motivational remark from a “fill in the blank” Conference teacher.

Well forgive me for bursting out in laughter when I heard this one, but the recognition of a timeless mind control device is just too hysterical to ignore. I am not really sure everyone understands the outrageous and devious technique this little statement demonstrates.

SEE = Suckering Excellence for Everyone

Directors will remember that training we got from Leadership a few years back about the fact that new Mary Kay recruits experience “fall out” around the 6 to 7 week mark. In Touch was updated to include a tickler system of tasks that kept us “focused” on where orders could come from, and to alert us to that critical 6-7 week window where enthusiasm wanes.

We needed to head it off at the pass by sending out a motivational postcard, tucking that newbie in our back pocket and steering her course through the murky waters of doubt as she depletes her friend/family market.
