An Open Letter To My Offspring Director

Written by TRACY. Posted in Quitting Mary Kay, Sales Directors

A letter from a former Mary Kay sales director to her offspring sales director. This letter really captures the essence of the Pink Truth mission. Getting women to understand that reality of MLMs, the predatory nature of Mary Kay, and that there is life after Mary Kay.

Dear XXXXX,

When we met four months ago, and I told you I was leaving Mary Kay directorship, I know it took you by surprise.  I had always presented to you the model image of a senior sales director.  As I was taught, I never complained to you or expressed doubts about the business.  I always presented the positive.  I encouraged you in everything you were trying to do to grow your unit and lead your consultants to success.

How to Drive Your Mary Kay Sales Director Nuts

Many of you have been subjected to the craziness of the sales director in your life.  She has called and e-mailed you nonstop to get you to “be a team player” this month.  She has offered you cheap jewelry for thousand-dollar orders.  She has refused to listen to your negative questions about Mary Kay.  She insists that you pull on pantyhose in 100-degree weather and wear skirts when it’s 20 below.

Wouldn’t you like to turn the tables on your SD and give her fits for once?  Here’s a checklist of some things you can do that are guaranteed to make your director go crazy – and provide you with hours of amusement.

Talking Mary Kay Consultants Out of Returning Inventory

Written by TRACY. Posted in Inventory & Selling, Quitting Mary Kay

Here’s a tried and true method of talking a consultant out of returning her inventory. We wouldn’t want her to do that! After all, the sales director will get a commission chargeback if the consultant returns her products.

We are all well aware of Mary Kay’s 90% buyback policy, whereby an independent consultant or sales director can return inventory purchased within the last year for 90% of its wholesale value. (Details here.)

Often, this is touted as some big privilege, and one of the many reasons recruits should sign up with Mary Kay. They are being offered a “no risk” opportunity with a wonderful company that is oh-so generous to the consultants. (Well there really is a risk, isn’t there, when you consider the 10% lost, the cost of supplies, the cost of shipping, the cost of interest on your credit card, etc?)

Telling Your Sales Director You’re Quitting

Written by TRACY. Posted in Quitting Mary Kay

Women considering quitting Mary Kay in order to reclaim their time, their families, and their wallets often agonize over how they will tell their sales director. Here’s how one consultant did it.

How do you tell her?

One option is to not tell her and not discuss it with her. Avoiding her phone calls is an excellent option because most Mary Kay sales directors will lay a huge guilt trip on you. Emotional manipulation is a favorite tactic for getting what they want.

Former Sales Director Sees Beyond the Smoke and Mirrors

Written by TRACY. Posted in Quitting Mary Kay, Sales Directors

A former Mary Kay sales director sees beyond the smoke and mirrors and shares her story with us. Can you relate?

You know…….. the more I read and hear about the leaders in this company who ultimately play on women’s hearts, minds and souls, the sadder I am. It is a shame that someone like Kathy Helou and others who are suppose to be “women of God” can continue to give women like us false hope.

The thing that saddens me most is that the MAJORITY of the women that get into this business do not have a support system at home! When you first get into Mary Kay…… you are “LOVED” by all these women that are in Mary Kay!

Why do we keep doing what we do at Pink Truth? This page explains why Pink Truth exists in the first place, but I wanted everyone to know a little more about why it’s important for me (and so many others) to continue to discuss Mary Kay day after day.

There are diehard Kaybots who will never believe what we have to say. There are other Kaybots who don’t want to believe it, but probably will sometime soon. There are still other Kaybots who know that our stories ring true, but are fighting it. And there are those who are ready to come out of the fog and into the light.

The Mary Kay Fade to Black

You didn’t think it would ever happen, but as soon as you left Mary Kay, you were shunned… ignored… negative… didn’t work your business… didn’t do it the Mary Kay way….

shun (shŭn)
shunned, shun•ning, shuns
To avoid deliberately; keep away from.

I know there have been questions about the cars… “What happens to the Mary Kay cars that are taken away?” (They are sold at auto auctions, no, they are not repainted.) But, what happens to the people? Specifically, the directors? (They are shunned.)

A 12-Step Recovery Program For Mary Kay

Inspired by the latest Kaybot’s letter to Tracy , I felt compelled to write a Pink version of twelve steps. I guess what it boils down to is this- — challenge accepted.

Here are twelve important steps toward Mary Kay recovery. I hope you all have taken each and every one of them towards your recovery. If you haven’t . . . don’t worry. There’s still hope for you on your path towards lifting the pink fog.

Getting Over the Mary Kay Guilt (Why We Stay an Active Part of Pink Truth)

Written by TRACY. Posted in Pink Truth Critics, Quitting Mary Kay

Sometimes critics ask why we spend so much time at Pink Truth, saying the same things over and over. Why don’t we just get over it already, and move on? Believe me, many of us have asked ourselves the same question. We’ve all been through difficult times, or losses of one sort or another. Why does recovery from this Mary Kay experience seem to be so hard for many of us? This question came up on the discussion boards recently, and here are some of my thoughts about it.

Leaving Mary Kay is a grieving process, but in some ways it is harder than losing a loved one. When someone dies, there is a wake and funeral (or similar rituals), and the people around you can easily recognize what you have lost. Even if they can’t understand, they know that there’s a real loss, and they know it’s personal for you. We don’t get that kind of support leaving Mary Kay, do we?Read More
