Mary Kay consultants and directors are always trying so hard to prove that the company is "on trend." Never mind that the company has been way behind on plenty of trends, including tinted moisturizer, tinted lip balm, microdermabrasion, and more.

The latest recruiting technique is so forward thinking! Recruit women with text messages! Doesn't that sound so hip and happening? It just sounds like another ineffective avenue of harassment that wastes everyone's time. When will Mary Kay consultants get it through their heads that women aren't taking their phone calls or replying to their emails because they're not interested???

Here's the groundbreaking texting technique being promoted in Mary Kay by one national sales director

With new "technology" comes new ways to do business in MK.  We have to be WILLING to change with the times and for the "younger" generation (18 - 35 yr olds) "TEXTING" is the new/preferred way of communicating.

I, too, have a 24 year old daughter (Nikki) and she tells me she will ALWAYS read a text.........but will NEVER answer a phone call from a number she does not recognize.  That tells us we MUST learn to use "text messaging" to reach this generation.  Like it or not......if you want to fill your datebook..................DECIDE TO ADJUST Ü !

Attached are some "texting scripts" you can use.  The "spelling" looks wrong........but it actually is CORRECT in the "texting world"..........just trust it Ü

Love, NSD Tammy Crayk

I owe a TON of Thank You's to Director Cherisse Hixson! She was sharing on a Director Call about having a "Text Booking" Meeting. You can imagine that we were all wondering, what did she say about a "Text Book"! Modern Technology today is all about anything electronic, computers, cell phones, air waves, whatever it is. All I know is I hit a "Send" button and it gets to the person I want to get it to. You will hear all sorts of things about how "you should" respond or talk to people. You follow your heart and do what you feel, then try something new! I am a creature of habit, who does not like change!

BUT if it will change the surface of my Date Book, I am all for giving it a try! Director Cherisse Hixson sent us her script and we all took off! You know we all have to put our little words and change things here and there to our own personalities, but please keep it as close to Cherisse's scripts as possible. None of this "Hey Yo!" Keep it professional.

Ladies today will respond to a Text Message before they will respond to a phone call. My son's girlfriend told me, "If I don't know who it is, I won't answer. But, if they text me, I will read it." And so it is. I have filled my books with Text Messaging aka “Text Booking!” Here are some scripts that I use below:

Remember….

1. Don’t let your “Text Message” get too lengthy, it costs money to the recipient that may not have unlimited texting. Don’t send more than 2 text messages. One they may not get, but two is enough. We shorten to U instead of you, Ur instead of your, etc. to save them money.
2. Keep your wording professional.
3. If the phone call didn’t work, send the “Text Message”. If you “Text Messaged” first, then try the phone call.
4. a. Don’t try to type all this in your cell phone. If you have an IPhone, email it to yourself on your IPhone or Text Message it to yourself on your IPhone. All you have to do is put your email address or cell number in the To: line on your email. When you receive it, copy and paste. Correct people’s names, times and places.
b. Then hit forward and add the phone number. IPhones take a lot of numbers.
5. If you don’t have an IPhone and you have a phone such as a Palm, etc., you can do the same, email or put your cell # in the To: line, then save it as a “Template”.
6. Remember that 9 to 9 is People time, after 9 you may get unhappy recipients. If they continue to text you after 9, then you may respond.

What has this accomplished for me….
This week, my Monday appointment was a Text Message appointment. I was told by my new Mary Kay girlfriend that if I wanted to reach her, “Text Message” or “Email”, she was too busy to answer phone calls. I sold $200 to her.

My Tuesday appointment was a facial, that turned into a double facial because of my “you may invite a friend along”, it was a $200 appointment, and I added a new team Member.
My Tuesday Night Success Event was a “Text Message” warm chat, that turned into a facial and a New Team member.

My Wednesday appointment was a “Text Message” that did not answer my phone call a year ago, yes, a year ago, I “Texted” her and she was a $100 facial. I even had a girl “Text Message” me after I had “Text Messaged” all her referrals, to tell me she wanted to sell. She was a 1-2 on the scale at her facial. After I had “Texted” all her referrals, the chatter started among her friends and she said “She” had a lot of girls who would buy from her!

My new Mary Kay girlfriends shared with me when I asked them about Text Messaging, that they loved it, because they can’t answer their cell phones at work, but they are allowed to text.
Happy Texting!

Oh how very thoughtful. You'll try to limit how much money I'm going to have to spend on SPAM that I DON'T WANT and have TOLD you so.

I've been a lurker here for several weeks since I started buying Mary Kay products from a consultant near me. I've told her in no uncertain terms that I have NO interest in being a consultant and I just want to buy a lipstick once in a while and when I do, I'LL CALL HER. But NOOOOOOOOOOO...

This pushy broad is constantly sending me text messages asking me to "help her out" because she's got a contest that she "really wants to win!"

Oh, so this is MY problem? To show up, waste two hours of MY valuable time and listen to your bloody sales director cram the "question game" and split her face open with phony smiles and badger me into spending "$100+ of MY hard earned money, so that SHE can "win" a gaudy rhinestone watch that the director paid twelve bucks for, and was probably made by a ten year old kid who makes three cents an hour chained to a radiator in a factory in China?

No thanks. I'd much rather spend my time studying and getting my senior requirements finished so I can go to grad school and get a REAL job that might come with benefits and retirement rather than sign up for your starter kit and (from what I've been able to tell from all the horror stories on this site, as well as others and real life testimonies I've heard from my own friends and family who got lost in the pink fog) almost garanteed debt.

And I don't care how "trendy" text speak is. I'm an adult and if I can take the time to SPELL OUT WHOLE WORDS on a standard phone keypad, so can she. It makes her look stupid as well as desperate.

When will these people ever stop! A new MK style of harassment. And of course they are now on the cutting edge b/c they are now using text messages which has been around for how many years? Careful you don't ruin one of your precious pink caddies-no texting while driving!
So now if she doesn't answer your voice mail, than try an email. If she doesn't answer your email try a text message. Here's a CLUE - if she didn't answer her phone or email take the HINT, she doesn't want to talk to you or attend one of your phoney pampering/facial events that is nothing more than a recruiting session.

  • PinkApostate

Don't you dare send me a text message about anything unless I have given you express permission to run up my cell phone bill.

Not everyone pays for unlimited text messages and if you choose to pay for each one it can cost up to 25 cents per message received (even if you never read it!) and an additional 20 cents to reply.

The audacity to imply it is OK to cost people just a little bit to receive MK spam.

Corpse should stop this one before a victom of this spam brings a lawsuit against them.

  • Lazy Gardens

For those on the receiving end of this sort of thing, here is the only text message reply you ever need to learn.

BUT if it will change the surface of my Date Book, I am all for giving it a try!

Is this a national actually admitting she has snow on all the pages of her datebook also?

    "Hey girl" is professional?

She writes a 10-sentence text but abbreviates "you" with "u" and "in" with "n"??? Must be some more of that MK math.

If she thinks it's so cool to hit send; here's my POV -- when I see rebus puzzles in my email (my sis texts to my email from her el-cheapo Virgin Mobil phone) or on my phone, I use a handy-dandy button labeled delete without reading the garbled mess b/c ( :P ) I don't have time for headaches.

  • raw joy

And just why is it that they feel they have to end every message with "I'm not pushy"?

Do you see Clinique, Sephora, Bare Minerals or any other reputable cosmetic company spaming and stalking people to sell thier product?

This is yet another way for the poor, pitiful kbot to make an absolute fool of herself and to alienate yet another person. Pathetic! :pinch:

    Alaskan_blue - Welcome, I like your style.

  • CSI:MaryKay

I completely forgot about this! Yes this is the new wave for mk. We had a "training" on it. One lady said that she didn't have texting on her phone and didn't know how to do it. You know what the SD's answer was, "Well it looks like you need to upgrade order to work your biz" I think it's a cop out for those who can't take rejection in their face.

  • stillkindapink

Yes, even the older, seasoned directors are texting! My former director (ESSD)sent me a text, then called my home phone, cell phone, work phone and emailed me at work this week to invite me to be a face model at her meeting to try the new products. I didn't respond to any. I have been inactive for several months now, but she is trying to wrap up her national area, and don't you know she just needs a few more directors to make it happen. How can they NOT KNOW HOW PUSHY THEY ARE!!

And welcome to PT, Alaska! Loved your post!

  • Angelwoman

If I get a text from a MK person, I would text "DGAF" (Don't Give A F*ck). Sorry, I'm not trying to be pushy or rude.

And how many of us believe any of this? $500 and two recruits in three days from receiving spam? Sounds like the $1500 the lady sold in the trailer after Hurricane Katrina, the $12,000 the lady makes every year on gift baskets, the $3,200 the lady makes every year from cornering the guys at the Superbowl party . . .

That doesn't sound too professional to me. If a business person were to text that to me I would definitely not take them seriously. It's actually kinda creepy that someone you barely know would talk to you like this. :X

  • rings90

Wow I don't respond to Texts if I don't the person sending them. IF I ever get one that says hey remeber me, thats a HUGE red flag & I most likely will not respond to it. If I happen to start getting them constantly I woudl not hesitate to call the cell phone company & have that #blocked.

And for the record my phone is about 6 years old yes it has texting, no I cannot afford an Iphone,a Palm, slider, sidekick, whatever the newest phone rage is I don't have it. nor do I really want one. My phone is old, it recieves phone calls and it texts if I want it to. The reason why I haven't upgraded is because its a actual phone, not a mini keypad, mini computer, music player, tv watching piece of technology for me. I know its hard to beleive but I actually use it as a PHONE.. believe it or not...

So please do not tell me I need to upgrade as the one I have works quite well yet. If you want me to upgrade so badly then you pay for it all.

  • The Scribbler

"...the "spelling" looks wrong........but it actually is CORRECT in the "texting world"..........just trust it..."

Judging.......from the hefty amount of poorly-written......and punctuated!!!!!!!.....MK "training" documents out there, one might wonder if NSD Crayk's "guidance" is being used for moooooore than just......texting.

Seriously, if MK leaders are going to play the Big Girl Professional Business Woman card, they better make darned sure that they've completed every last page in their Disney Princess "Fun with Phonics!" (K-1st Grade) workbook before dashing off their latest addendum to the Husband Unawareness Program.

  • pinksedition

Wow, those texts are way creepy and stalkish. How would they like it if their local walmart checker texted them asking "U dnt know me but i rang u up at walmart tue & im in a contest...." insert your own inane product there. It's extremely unprofessional. I don't want merchants texting me to sell me stuff. I"ll go when I want to. GO AWAY!

  • Black Nova

Gawd! Those texts are HUGE. Do they have any idea how long that would take to type on a regular phone keypad? I hate texting for that very reason. I use it only for things like "See you at 5" or "okay" responses. And yes, Kaybots, we have more respect for people who spell all the words out. Sheesh.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I've never seen a text cost more due to its length. Texts just cost. That's it. And textspeak is used to facilitate the speed of typing it, not to keep it short.

  • Timetogo

This technique is lower than a snake's belly. My phone plan charges me $.25 for each incoming 'text' message. In the past I have complained to my provider whenever I received unsolicited text messages and they take the charges off my bill. But in this instance I would also tell the sender they owed me the $ and I might be tempted to show up at her meeting in jeans and sneakers to collect!

  • Rachel
Like it or not......if you want to fill your datebook..................DECIDE TO ADJUST Ü !
There you go. If you're not successful, all you need to do is switch to texting.

And yes, longer messages do cost more. If you send a long text, it gets broken up into more than 1 message. So you have to pay for both (or all three, or whatever.)

  • pinkladynomore

What's wrong with saying "Hey, yo!" I find it hilarious that these women take themselves so seriously. They really believe they are real professionals. Not!!! The jokes on them. :)

  • Out of Pink

Boy, this brings back memories of the game "monkey see - monkey do"

first I learned this game in kindergarten and then again in Mary Kay!!

I remember being told all kinds of foolish NEW things to do in order to get appointments and keep up customer service. All their advice kept me running around wasting my precious time.

Finally I caught on and realized that all that non-sense was just to keep us busy and not enough time to think straight.

I don't believe directors do half of the things they advise thier consultants to do. For example the text messages written on this post are way too long...takes way too much time to write and keep track of.

    Who are they kidding???

:P I am so happy to have my beautiful life back!!

  • raisinberry

pinkylee...."is this a national admitting she has nothing on her datebook?"

No, this is a National PRETENDING she has a datebook.rawjoy and I were separated at birth. Ain't NO frickin' way these results reflect anything more than the world of possibilities that live inside this NSD's head.

  • onelessSD

I'm fairly new to the texting world - but even I know this is very unprofessional! Like many of you, I just delete those I don't recognize (ooopps, maybe they were from my SD!) - it's truly just one more way to harrass someone. What will they do next?

As for NSD Tammy Crayk - she's as pushy as they get! I've met her personally a couple of times, and she just scares me. So intense and her trainings are grueling - you walk out of there feeling terrible. She's mean.

  • outsidethepinkbox

Just wanted to pop in for a minute & ask if any feel like it - I am being publicly harassed by a mk director (if thats what title she still has).

She is mean in her tactics, all the while laughing & mocking about it. Since she has the maturity level of a 2yr. old, she thinks its funny & there is nothing wrong with it.

So, say a prayer for me. I hope she gets removed

  • outsidethepinkbox

sorry if that seemed so vague - but I intentionally left out details for now. I just wanted to vent a little as I am so upset about what she did tonight.

I swear this person is psycho

  • onelessSD

Outside - I'm praying for you. I've known a few MK SD's that have done things like that. It's sick and shows everyone around just how "little" they are. Hang in there!

  • raisinberry

Outside...ya have to know something. Mary Kay training makes a Director an exclusive superior achiever. Soon we buy into the status. Some go way overboard---like anyone in the universe would care how PRESTIGIOUS you are in your $400 suit. The upline teaches us to make it "exclusive" and not to "dwell" with the underachievers....after all, I will match my time with Your effort! We use time with us as bait for being accepted.

Ain't no wonder that rational thinking and civility go right out the window when its all about you~

  • Rachel

Sorry to hear it, outside. Hope things get better soon.

  • outsidethepinkbox

Thanks - I truly appreciate everyones kind comments & prayers! It has been extremely difficult. Maybe I will divulge all some day.

I'm not involved in MK at all, but am in contact with this person quite regularly.I have been to one party (which was more than I could stomach)& was hounded relentlessly by this person. Now she is trying to do some harassing things to me publicly. I am a really peaceful quiet person & I just cannot believe how this has intruded into & disrupted my personal life.

You guys are so kind - many thanks!

  • currantcraze

    Hello Outside!
I feel incredibly sorry for you. There is no reason for the harassment you are receiving. Are you from the US? Would someone please post corpse's head office # or message her the # so that she can call and make a complaint about this Director and her tactics so that "outside" can get some relief in her life?
    Good luck to you Outside.

  • outsidethepinkbox

    currantcraze -

Wow, really I am so overwhelmed by your compassion! Thank You!

Yes, I am in the US. I thought about calling MK Corp. (although I do not know the number - sure I can google it)& really thought about calling them after yesterdays incident.

The reason I haven't as of yet, is because this person is my neighbor! My husband & I are very afraid of reprisal from her & or her family or other MK persons :(

We tried to address a portion of the problem 2 times before, & her family then did things to harass us. I spoke to her on the phone & tried to speak the truth in love, & be reasonable, but she only mocked at me & told me that I was silly to complain & she laughed at me & then said she had to go, cutting me off. You guys know what its like to tell these girls the truth about anything :(

We have also thought of calling the police for some of the harassing things they do - or an attorney, but don't want to escalate things.

Really sad, especially since we are in our 50's (very quiet people) dealing with sick elderly parents & a dying brother. Its just sick.

sorry, I didn't mean to make this so long.

  • onelessSD

Outside - call the police, and call 1-800-marykay. Make the complaint. They have no right to infringe on your life in this way. You are not affiliated with the company, or with her in any business sense. Make the call and hopefully it will make her back off.

    Still praying for you!

  • outsidethepinkbox

Thank You - Thank You! You will never know how much this means to us. I just read the comments to my hubby.

  • Itsnotjustme???

In regard to the SD who told the consultant she'd need to upgrade her phone to work her business with texting, watch out! The list of "must haves" becomes longer and longer the further you get into MK. I began in MK just over 10 years ago and had to sign up for a company website when they were brand new. Then I needed my own website, then voicecom, then an office assistant...or was that before voicecome..I forget. Then it was a toll-free phone number, then a recruiting hotline and on and on and on the expenses go in this so-called business. Yet I was accused of poor money management when I quit for lack of earning cash. They tell you you "must have" all these things and then shame you that you can't make a buck after paying for all the latest technology.

  • Lazy Gardens

    Outside -
Definitely call the police if there is harassment. Her "rights" end where your right to live quietly starts.

Videotape some of their harassing stuff, and get a restraining order that makes them stay off of your property, off of your phone lines, away from your work, and quiet.

Then if they violate the restraining order, they go to jail or get fined. It becomes them against the court, not them against you ... courts have more clout.

  • oldernwiser

aaaaahh. . . they're totally missing the boat. These hip texting consultants need to sign off with "peace out" !!!!

  • noMKBShere

Being that the product just flies off the shelves it makes you wonder why this is even necessary.

They charge you $400 for those crappy suits??

  • recoveringmkaddict

I have ten Director suits in my closet and love every one of them. We paid for each item individually so it was up to us how much we wanted to spend. With the exception of the last one (I stopped attending meetings and events my last year) I wore each one so much that they started to show signs of wear. I felt like I got my money's worth. They are made well and I always felt well dressed in them. I just put one on in August for my sister-in-law's funeral.

  • thinkingpinkstinks

Does anyone remember the lavender director suit with the fur collar? I loved that suit and always wished I had one. That was when I had several recruits when I first joined and was climbing my ladder to be this successful MK director. Never got there, but I always wanted the suit.

  • freshoutofpink

I have four Director suits. Every time I had one altered, I was told the suit was very well made. Yes they are expensive but they are no more costly than any other well made suit. There was only one time that I didn't care for the fabric. Other than that, I always felt pretty good in mine.

Okay so I got this idea from Fresh's post on the discussion thread...

Just reply "pinktruth.com" and push send...'nuf said.

  • saucylady

    What does STFU mean???
Also, I love how the above director says to "keep your wording professional"

How do u keep it professional with so many stupid looking abbreviations, like u, ur, 2 for to, "can I borrow u for this?" "borrow ur face 4 makovers" and the ever cute "I'm not pushy and it's totally fun" It all sounds phony, ridiculous and desperate!!!!
(Or should I say 'foney, ridclous and desprit)???

  • Lazy Gardens

STFU = Shut the f*** up!

Lazy Gardens - Thanks so much for your post. I really, really wish that I would have video taped what she did just last Thurs. right across from our driveway in the front of our home - using her very small children - disgusting!

Honestly, it caught me us off guard. I wanted to call the police so bad, but dh was concerned that it would only stir her up more. I don't know. I think we are going to talk with city officials this week.

What you posted had a profound comment - not knowing exactly what has been going on. I may post the whole thing on the discussion board. We just cannot take it any more.

Outside, I am thinking this neighbor needs professional help. That is not normal. I'd probably do something terrible by this point. Call the cops. Even if nothing comes of it officially, it would be a good strong dose of humiliation.

As for texting I may look at a text as opposed to a mysterious number but that does not mean I will respond. Texting is quickie handy communication but it is not a professional business call. Abbreviating words? I consider text speak to be newspeak.

  • EuroBugGirl
Attached are some "texting scripts" you can use. The "spelling" looks wrong........but it actually is CORRECT in the "texting world"..........just trust it Ü

It's not enough for them to mutilate English, now they have to turn an innocent "U" Umlaut into a smiley?

I live in Germany and it's really messing with how I read this.

  • Angelwoman

I am selling my house, because I don't feel like living next to an Illinois MK SD nut case the rest of my life. MK does not run the neighorhood. Mary Kay Ash was a con woman disguised as a granny. I have read all of Mary Kay Ash's books from my library. She got away with a lot of things. Had she been in the right neighborhood she would have been arrested for solicitation. You can't put the squeeze on people and say you are making them feel better. MKA was lining her pockets and nothing else.

You have no idea how accurate that statement is! And, it is a nice area - well, was. I'm not sure if this woman can be humiliated!

You guys will not believe it when I tell you the whole story. The few people we have shared it with were just shocked & said they have never heard of such a thing & felt really really sad for us.

  • outsidethepinkbox

Angelwoman - I thought of you when I posted this the other day :(

  • CaptainEm

You are making me very curious.

  • Still Breaking The Basic

    Outside and Angel:

Please call both MK Corp and your local police departments to file complaints.

Depending on who these pink psychos know or whose unit they are in, Corp could issue one of their wink-and-nod reprimands. But the police will act on your complaints. And when you contact the police, inform them that you have called MK Corp. They will follow up with Corp and Corp won't like that at all.

Unfortunately, no doesn't mean no in MK. You have worked hard for your homes and livelihoods. Don't let these women rob you of that even if it means obtaining restraining orders.

Perhaps a trip to jail in the back seat of a patrol car is what they need.

  • Pax

    Outside,

Keep a log of everything she says and does; dates, times and exact actions and words. Then call the non-emergency police number and set up an appointment with an officer explaining what has happened showing them the log. This makes you look very credible. They will take this information to start an investigation. I did this with harrassing phone calls during a very messy divorce and it stopped the calls. Don't delay.

  • outsidethepinkbox

You guys are so great & supportive. I will have to post in the discussion board maybe this week.

    Many Thanks

  • Lazy Gardens

    Yes, what Pax said:

Get a notebook and journal EVERYTHING, date, time, what's happening, and pictures if you can take them. Cell phones can often record sound and take pictures.

  • noMKBShere

Oh, ok Lazy. I wouldn't personally know, but I have seen them referred to as polyester so I assumed.

  • NewRecruit

Great Site! I had the 30 faces in 30 days challenge, like that's going to happen, I have no income and need to find a job! Oh and the Satin Hands challenge, did 4 people, nothing came of it, why should I bother. I need customers for myself not to fulfill a challenge for a director to get a bee pin or some crap like that. I have been asked to buy 300$ wholesale, with what? Obliged to buy 200$ only every quarter to keep the 50% privilege, that is enough why have inventory when so far I have only one customer made a sale a whopping $52.50. Have to order for her a lipstick and liner and that costs me $7.50 delivery charge! My recruiter gave me a loan of a liner in new package but it is not sealed, that is not normal and the lipstick is in the old package, can't give that to my customer, besides it smells like lipstick from the 50's, not sealed and way past due. I know she is trying to help but that is not help for me to lose a customer by giving her old stock and unsealed liner, isn't it supposed to have the plastic wrapper so you can't open it?
I don't see making a living at this right now and I wanted to pay off my credit card bill, don't think this is the way.

  • Lazy Gardens

    NewRecruit -
Send back as much product as you can - click the "Returning Inventory" link at the top of the page and follow the directions. Pay as much as you can out of that.
Directions….
It's @ Harry Patterson Tower, 6007 Financial Plaza, 4th Flr., rm 404. Take I-20 to Pines Road, turn towards Wal-Mart, & make left on the service road (Financial Plaza) by the Exxon, drive past IHOP to Courtyard Marriott & take a right on Rasberry Lane (can't turn left), drive about .25 mile down on right, the sign says Harry Patterson on right where you turn in to the building.

I am waiting for a "too dumb to doubt" kaybot to follow the script blindly,as usual and use someone else's directions to their own facial. Cos you know it's going to happen...

  • maskedavonrep  - Rude!

Rude, rude, RUDE! Text messaging people who don't know you is rude!

I can see that Mary Kay is desparately trying to tap into the youth market.

So I guess that means NOT exhibiting good manners to young women.

    Professional, my fanny!

  • 2pink4me

This is called LEADING BY Example!!

Please, If I ever received a text message from someone I didn't know - who was trying to recruit me to go to a strange place to meet someone that I have never met. Would an intelligent
person take a chance with their personal safety doing something like this?? Has anyone ever watched Law and Order or Missing Persons??
