avatar I am so happy, glad, relieved... that I found this website. OK. I signed up to become an IBC at the end of February, 2009. A friend who I bought a little MK from over the years had decided to really make a go at trying to succeed at MK. She asked me to watch a video about MK. I watched it and then told her that I would give MK a try, too. I signed the contract and sent for my starter kit. This was during the time period that a refund of starter kit money was offered with a minimum $600 wholesale order.

OK. My antennae went up a number of times but I kept ignoring my gut feelings. Why? Because of the source of my "recruitment". Here's what gave me very mixed signals:

1. Have stock on hand. Don't make your customers wait for a delivery. Well, I thought that was unusual because the few home parties that I have ever attended (Longeberger is the one that comes to mind) always involved ordering, paying and then getting the actual items within a week or two. And, how on earth could you possibly have everything on hand?
2. I placed my first order with my sales director (thankfully, I'm not too familiar with all of the hierarchy} which I thought was weird. I told her my thoughts and then she basically told me what to order, I gave her my credit card number and then she placed my order! My $600 order snowballed to about $900. Cannot believe I did this.
3. I went to one meeting with my recruiter. The sd conducted the meeting. She seemed so hyper that I felt like I was watching an episode of The Amazing Race. I also picked up on the "if you are not making money" bs. I have never been one to be involved games so I could not have cared less about the charms or the bracelets that she was talking about. My jewelry is real. Not crappy trinkets.
4. I read about 10 pages in the Mary Kay Ash Autobiography. What a load of schlock. Embarrassing to read. That's when I knew this was not for me.

Thank you for this site. After reading some of the posts, I called my friend/recruiter/team builder and simply said that I didn't want to sell MK. I had decided to pursue other interests. We have worked it out. She is still my dear friend. She told me she may be able to use (buy) some of my product and I will send back any other junk left over. I am so grateful that I did not order anything else and so grateful that I found this site.

I am concerned about my friend. I did not mention this site to her. She seems to be genuinely making appointments and she is team building. I know that she is truly trying to make this work and I wonder what I should do if anything. I believe that she thinks MK is a legitimate corporation.

Funny stuff: I only did one facial--which is also a crock, I've had facials and what I did was no facial. I wore pants and during the facial my friend and I drank a bottle of wine. That was also a red flag. I couldn't follow the "rules" on my first appointment!

My only concern is my friend. How should I proceed? Thanks

avatar Just be gentle but up front and direct her to this site. Maybe you should send some direct links pertinent to where she is (ie whether or not you can really make anything). Just ask her to open her mind a little and tell her you are just wanting her to make a completely informed decision before proceeding much further. What she does with it is up to her, ya know?

I have a team of 12 and almost got sucked into getting my first MARY KAY car but I was not going to take anymore of my family's Money, and for that I feel Good!!!! I have been on a 9 1/2 month long odessy and thousands and thousands of $$$$$ and I thank God it is almost over and I can reclaim my dignity and learn to respect myself all over again its going to take some time but hey ,now that I am waking up, and getting up,and picking up and most of all looking up, I believe God is going to honor my very wise decision to stop the madness (It ain't over until God say's it's over).... keep fighting until your victory is won...LORD I THANK YOU FOR CLARITY... AND FORGIVING ME..... THANK YOU FOR A NEW START!! here is my issue I gave the Mary Kay Dream to 12 other people because I believed in it, and to be true.... now that I am back from the beyond ... I feel the right thing to do is to tell them the real deal.... hit me back with your comments thx...

avatar Hi! I have only been with MK for 4 months and plan on returning inventory, but here's what I would have liked to have known and you can pass on to your 12:

1. Don't spend more than you can afford to. I've never had a problem with people waiting for product.

2. Don't worry about meetings-truly put your family before MK (after all, isn't that what they say in MK)?

3. Follow your instincts.

I did have a question: Is it better to wait until the end of the quarter (June 16) to return inventory so as not to affect my SD's numbers? Thanks!

avatar Thankgodisee: You can let your Team know about this site Email it to them along with a note from you. If they read the articles and personal stories--not I stories--they will learn more than one person could tell them in a month of beauty classes

Doesn't it feel good to be out?
Mrs_Muffet  - Crazy ride...   |2009-07-13 21:08:25
HI There!
I am a very new IBC. I signed up just last week with a star order. My I story includes how I am making money to go visit my Granma in Africa. ( i have been in Canada for 6 yrs already and have not been back to my home continent yet.) And since it is so very expensive to go $2000 return flight ticket per person, we are 3 that needs to go. Do the math!
I started this MK thing to pay for it. But I was looking for a Logo to put on my Facebook group that started for my MK bussiness and found this website in stead. So I have been reading and reading.
My brain feels like mush.
So I skipped on my Sucess meeting where I was suposed to be pinned. And went swimming with the family instead!
Ok, Long short... I have $2000 CND (whole sale )worth of inventory on my shelve. Where do I find the form for the 90% back In CND?
I would rather use that money and put it towards a better venture. Like Photography equipment. ( I have a degree in art)
Any pointers will be aprecciated.
Thanks for opening my eyes before I got more in to debt. I was planning on getting the car. (my family needs a second vechicle)
O boy. What a day.

avatar Anyone know how long it takes to actually get your product return check?
soon2wed   |2009-08-24 14:10:42
It only took a couple weeks to get my check!!! But they shorted me $100 - go figure!
FreefromPinkatLast   |2009-08-31 10:21:37
I JUST got locked out of MKOC (Canadian version) on Friday, August 28th, 2009 and I sent my product back to the company at the end of June. I still don't have a cheque in my hand, but man...it felt so wonderful to be locked out of the website FINALLY!!!! I wonder how much Mary Kay math their going to have done to my return. I have to say, I thought it would be an easy thing to do...NOT! Mary Kay is very quick to take our money but not very quick at giving it back. Everytime I think about how much I sent back....I think "how could I have been so stupid?" Thanks for this website...it really helped me see the light!

avatar Freefrompink-
You should have that check in your hot little hands very soon. Congrats!

Finally got my check from Mary Kay! Thank God I'm totally done with this company! Although, I really did like the product, I couldn't stand what the company stood for. Free at last!!!!

avatar ::Sigh:: I just shipped my Mary Kay Inventory back yesterday. I cannot tell you what a relief it is! I was recruited by a sales director. She made the world of Mary Kay seem perfect as she took me out to lunch in her New Mary Kay Saturn Vue. At this lunch meeting I was fed a bunch of Pink bull crap about how easy it is to sell and that she knew I would do great. She told me it was so easy that I could open a credit card at no interest for a year and I would pay that balance off in less than a month. So while eating lunch she gave me the number to call Fifth Third Bank and open a credit card OVER THE PHONE. So I did, because she seemed knowledgeable and she seemed like she wanted to help me succeed. After she maxed out my credit limit that very day with the inventory that she continually convinced me was necessary, she dropped me back off at my college dorm apartment and went on her way. Beyond that, she also convinced one of my roomates to do it too. It wasn't until that night when I tried to go to sleep I realized what I had done. I knew from the beginning that I probably had been conned.

But, I tried to sell the crap anyways. I thought I could try to sell atleast some of it for a little extra spending cash. I knew I wouldn't get rich but it was worth a shot. Afterall, I did live on a college campus and there were hundreds of girls...I bet all of them want a mary kay makeover. Or not. To be clear I only sold 50 dollars in total. Most of the things I sold were sold at wholesale (1/2 price) because my director/recruiter would call all my clients and offer them a 1/2 price product if they talked to her for awhile and she explained to them the opportunity of mary kay.I trudged on, however, and made Mary Kay out to be the most awesome thing. Afterall, I didn't want to be embarrassed for signing up and then quitting. I had already told my friends and family what an awesome opportunity I had found! My act convinced two other girls to load up credit cards and attempt to sell Mary Kay. I have contacted both of them to help them sell back too. I feel terrible.

I had been considering quitting since day one but was continually sucked back in with the "What ifs." My MK director EVEN did my makeup and all my bridesmaid's makeup for my wedding. Then I ran across this website. It gave me the boost I needed to call the repurchasing dept. and send it all back. I am expecting a huge portion of my original money back because i didn't sell ANYTHING. It was freeing to finally sleep at night, not worrying how I was going to pay off that credit card on top of school loans, or if I was straining my new marriage with this unnecessary debt. Shipping that 40 lb box was like lifting 40 lbs off my chest.

So I want to thank everyone who has contributed to this page. I have been able to shed light on every myth I ever wondered about from how much my director makes to what items can go back and which I'm stuck with. Best of Luck!! Thanks AGAIN!!

avatar Way to go GoodbyePink4ever! I'm so proud of you for taking the big step of selling back to Mary kay. You are very wise for seeing the deception right away!
What Directors do on college campuses is criminal. They should be put in jail for saddling young women with credit card debt and such. They are a bunch of sharks and they circle college campuses for the kill.
Put it behind you now and enjoy this exciting part of your journey and life.

Love, Blessings and congratulations on your marriage from your friends at Pink Truth
raisinberry   |2009-09-24 12:08:11
avatar GoodbyePink, YEA for YOU!.

It is RIDICULOUS that a Director loaded your new card with product! It is CRIMINAL. And you are so right--after you have bragged to everyone about Mary Kay, how do you reneg now?? And "what if" is Sooooo effective! Don't close the door forever now, you might need MK later on!!

I honestly can not believe a Director could peek in here today, read this with eyes open, and not HATE HERSELF for the "con" she pulls just to make production or a bonus.
mdew8365   |2009-09-25 12:07:31
Hello all! I signed up for MK through a friend who told me it was the best thing that ever happened to her. She told me I could quit my job and support my family while working only a few hours a week. My husband and I had been doing Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover, part of which is giving up credit cards FOREVER. I was adamant that I would not be racking up CC debt, no matter how quickly I might be able to sell product to pay it off.

Well, long story short, I eventually fell prey to the "vision" and opened a credit card with a $1500 inventory order. I knew better, and yet I did it. I am still so mad at myself for that. On top of being dumb enough to rack up the CC debt, I also ignored the fact that I DO NOT EVEN LIKE THE PRODUCT. It is a little hard to sell something that makes you break out, contains ingredients you find suspicious (mineral powder foundation= TALC!), and generally just doesn't work for you.

Roughly 9 months later, my 0% intro APR is about to expire on October 6th (and jump to 21% or something ridiculous), and I have sold next to NOTHING, so I finally requested the inventory return form, boxed everything up, and sent it on its way a few weeks ago.

I have been reading this site, and I know that being locked out of InTouch is a good sign... Well TODAY I have just gotten locked out! Thank God! I am just hoping and praying that check will be here by Oct. 6 so I can avoid any more "stupid tax," as Dave Ramsey calls it.

I'm so glad I found this site and had the sense to get out of this scam. Thanks everybody for your courage and support!

avatar mdew8365, that's why we're here. To warn others before they fall prey to the same con we did.

Welcome to clarity and welcome to PT!

avatar I have just become a "student" of Dave Ramsey...better late than never. Just because someone mentioned his name on this site, I looked into it and now have my budget and envelope system up and running. Another reason why this site can be helpful to many as a way to recover from the damage done by the MK business opportunity. This is a very helpful network for all who need it.
GoodbyePink4ever   |2009-09-25 21:12:53
avatar mdew8365 congrats! I'm actually in the same boat!! I hardly ever use credit and I was convinced it was okay bc it was zero interest for 1 year. Yay for almost being free from this terrible money pit!!
mdew8365   |2009-09-28 17:37:03
Ohhh, I am SO mad. I just got my check in the mail, and those idiots shorted me about $200. Maybe I should just let it go, but I am so pissed off about the whole thing that I am NOT going to cash the check, and am going to call corporate tomorrow and demand to know what happened. They show no deductions from my refund (i.e. no prizes, commissions, etc.). I wrote clearly on the top of the form, "TOTAL RETAIL VALUE OF RETURN: $2611.50." I made absolutely sure I only sent back Section I. The calculation on my check says, "Total retail value returned: $2347.50." No explanation, just a number.

And THEN, below that it says: "Wholesale Value Returned: $1076.92." Um hello? That is not even 50% of $2347.50. And THEN they show the 90% refund at 969.22, plus $200-ish in tax. Now I'm going to spend all evening going thru current prices to make sure something wasn't on sale below what i paid.

But even then... where did that $300 (retail) of products I sent them disappear off to???

UGH. So mad.
mypuddin   |2009-09-28 18:51:04
avatar mdew8365-Welcome to Mary Kay Math! They did the same thing to me, so when I called to get an accounting, they sent me this complicated sheet of every order I ever placed and I don't even think Stephen Hawking could figure it out. I would try it though-what have you got to lose?
raisinberry   |2009-09-28 21:53:59
avatar mdew, I am not sure but I think if they gave you any free bonus product they deduct that cause you technicaly didn't pay for it. Would that have been the case? Are you within a year of starting the biz?
mdew8365   |2009-09-30 22:33:30
Ugh. Called and talked to Corporate yesterday, and got the dumbest woman on the phone who did not even seem to understand my question. She was actually incredulous that I had sent back almost everything. She kept saying, "So you didn't sell ANYTHING?" She told me she'd have someone call me back, but I instead requested that they send me something to make sense of the numbers. We'll see how long that takes to arrive.

Raisinberry, I did return my "free" product bonus... Because otherwise I was afraid that they would deduct a penalty for it. Was that the wrong way to go? I'm glad you mentioned it, because that probably explains some of the missing $... i.e., they wouldn't give me any money back for it, they just wouldn't deduct for it either.

I was in such a rage after that phone call! Still smacking myself on the forehead a million times over all of this...
GoodbyePink4ever   |2009-10-01 01:52:12
avatar ...I just want to be locked out of in touch and get my check.
GoodbyePink4ever   |2009-10-08 08:44:40
avatar Ha! I got locked out of In TOUCH Yesterday !!! My husband thought I was nuts when I jumped up and down in excitement.
jinxie   |2009-10-18 21:53:54
I am very embarrassed, but I need to confess this, maybe someone can give me some much-needed psychotherapy. I just returned my unsold inventory purchased in the past 12 months ($1,709) YAY!! and then I decided to check my In Touch, just to look at the new products, and then, I started a new on-line order, since it is still active, and went all the way to completion.. The order is even saved. Somebody help me. I need to cancel that. How retarded would that be to place an order the day after returning all that crap?? Why was I even TEMPTED? I'm really NOT a crazy lady, I PROMISE!
Anyway, you are all great! I've been lurking around here for a year. It's been my guilty pleasure.
vintagegold   |2009-10-18 22:14:47
jinxie - I feel the same way sometimes. It's not just you. I have boxes and boxes full of invetory, yet I am still tempted to place another order sometimes.

Cosmetics can be addicting, but you should buy your Mary Kay from touchofpink.com or other cosmetics from eyeslipsface.com, they are $1.00 for most things.
makingendsmeet   |2009-10-26 12:14:36
hi everyone!
I have been reading posts, etc for a while and have finally decided to post something myself. I mostly need advice. I have a been a consultant for 2 years and have decided to quit as of Dec 2009!
I followed the advice about calling the company and requesting the form for product repurchase. I talked with 3 different women and was informed that they will not buy it back because it has been 8 months since my last order. It is total BS. I have received nasty voice mails from my directer (I changed my contact info and only left my voice mail number- he he) and also been locked out of in touch!
So I am asking are there any liquidators that will take my inventory ($3,500.00-retail)?
Thanks!
mkpinkdebt  - MK Debt   |2009-11-10 13:57:12
I started my MK business in April '09. Really bought into the whole pink bs. And I am not an easily influenced person. Well after about $2k in cred card debt and no really profit I searched online to check my options of returning my massive inventory. I am so glad to have found this site! It has been so far very easy to return my inventory. I just requested my return form today from MK so I suspect to hear from my SD soon. I have spent a couple of hours on here reading all the posts, and I am a bit angry on all the misinformation I was given. The very 1st question I had for my soon-to-be former SD is "Are MK consultants making good profits on their initial investment?" Because I am all about the return I make on an investment. And after looking at what SD actually make, I am a little angry that she was not as honest as she should have been. But it's mainly my fault for not doing my research. Thanks again for weeding through the pink lies and giving MK a much needed dose of reality! With all this new info I am even looking forward to my SD attempt to change my mind...she'll be in for a reality check
The Scribbler   |2009-11-10 15:14:15
avatar "It's mainly my fault for not doing my research..."

MKPinkDebt, don't be so hard on yourself. The MK recruiter is not going to give you the information you've discovered here, because that would mean you might tell her "no" or bring up something that she will be unable to dismiss with a pat answer. Some MK training documents instruct recruiters to say "After I've explained the MK marketing plan, you'll have ALL the facts needed to make an educated decision." Some documents tell recruiters to dismiss the views of the prospect's social circle, as in "Your well-meaning friends and family will only be able to offer you opinions, not facts. I'm so glad I didn't listen to them...I followed my heart!"

MK recruiting interviews are heavily skewed in favor of the recruiter. NSD Pam Shaw's statement to her directors regarding recruiting pretty much says it all:

"Did you press through to a win or give in with a sigh?"
emu83   |2009-11-13 07:23:51
This website is a God-send. I have been in MK since March of this year and thought I was the only one who thought all of these things! It was when I caught on to the fact that they use Religion as a front for deceitfulness that I started to take some steps back.
I am in the process of boxing up inventory to send back to corporate..Any tips on who to send it through? Do I need insurance etc? Thanks to all of the women who are here to help us newbies "see".
