Returning Your Starter Kit PDF Print E-mail
If you've recently signed up for Mary Kay, you can return your starter kit and get out.

If you want to cancel your agreement, return your starter kit, and get your money back, here are the rules:

  • It must be done within 30 days after Mary Kay Inc. accepts your agreement (so that means within 30 days of signing up)
  • The starter kit must be unused

If you return the unused starter kit to the company, you will be refunded 100% of your signup fee.

The easiest way to return the kit to the company is to simply refuse delivery from UPS. If you’ve already received it, just send it back.

What if you’ve already used a couple of the products in the kit???

  • If they’re regular retail-sized products, get brand new ones and replace the used ones in the kit.
  • If you’ve used some of the testers, try to find another consultant who hasn’t used those particular testers, and swap with her.

If you’re beyond the 30 days, can’t return your kit, but still want to get out, just don’t order anything from the company. Use the products in your kit as much or as little as you like, and call it a day. I also suggests avoiding your recruiter and sales director for the next couple of months.

If you’ve already gotten waaaaaaaay sucked in and you’ve got inventory sitting on your shelves, you might want to read our information about how to return your inventory to the company .

I ran across Pink Truth a by a forwarded email I got from a Director showcasing MK on CBS. As I was reading Pink Truth I got a Knock on my door and it was the UPS guy with my starter kit. I want to return EVERYTHING!!! Is the refund automatic? Is there any paperwork that needs to be filled out?
Thanks to all of you and this website

avatar I think if you DO NOT OPEN the kit you can return it and only be out the shipping.

If you are in the USA call Mary Kay's main phone number and ask for Product Repurchase: (972) 687-6300

They will be able to tell you.

avatar Can I return the things in my starter kit with the rest of my inventory I ordered? Like all the foundations that weren't used? Will I get 90% of the costs back?
Lazy Gardens   |2009-04-11 22:10:55
avatar I think so ... in the USA you get a dollar value and anything adding up to the value can be sent back.
sassygrll01  - Starter kit return   |2009-04-28 11:18:47
Hi, after reading everything on this site I have decided not to sell MK products. I'm so thankful that I read this.

I was at a MK party on Sunday. The sales rep told me that I'd be perfect to sell the products. Everything sounded so great and I thought I could do it part-time as I already have a full-time job. After doing research, I think it's a VERY bad idea. The rep gave me a starter kit on Sunday and said that she would call me so I can get trained. I called her yesterday to tell her that I have changed my mind. She informed me that everything was processed and I now need to return the starter kit to the company. BTW, she never told me that the kit was $100! The charge has not hit my credit card yet. I don't understand why I can't just give her the box back? I never signed an agreement or anything. What should I do?
pinkpeace   |2009-04-28 11:47:03
avatar Sassy, let me ask you, did your director take your credit card number to order you a starter kit, and give you one to use in the meantime? (That's pretty common). She probably is having the new starter kit delivered to her house, and as long as it's given right back to UPS as "refused" WITHOUT being opened, you won't be charged.

However, I fear that your director will open it, and then you'd be responsible.

First thing I'd do is call the CC company and tell them not to put through any charge to Mary Kay, Inc. Then I'd call MK Inc. at (800) 272-9333. Tell them that the sales director took your credit card number, but that you DID NOT sign a consultant agreement, either on paper or electronically, and that you DO NOT want a starter kit in your name.

Call the director and tell her you are giving the starter kit back to her, and if yours arrives at her house, she is to NOT OPEN IT and refuse delivery.

Good luck and keep us posted.
sassygrll01   |2009-04-28 13:19:40
She didn't explain anything to me. I ordered a bunch of products at the party so they do have my credit card #. I only authorized them to charge me for the products, not a starter kit. She gave me the box (which is opened) and said that she'd call me to set up training. I left her a msg telling her, thanks but I have changed my mind. In her voicemail back to me she said that I'm making a bad decision by not joining etc, etc and that I have to send it back to the company. I honestly don't even want to talk to her because she is very pushy. THEN, she leaves another msg telling me to call her back as she will explain the return process to me. I can guarantee she just wants to get me on the phone so she can try to get me involved. Ugggh!!!! What a nightmare!!
pinkpeace   |2009-04-28 13:50:45
avatar Yuck. Did you call the company? I would make sure I did that before I returned her call.

When you talk to her, find out if she already ordered the starter kit and where it's being shipped. If it's being shipped to your house, you can simply refuse delivery (even leave a note for UPS on your door), and the problem is solved.
sassygrll01   |2009-04-28 14:20:37
I called the company and they have no record of me or her ordering a starter kit. So, she lied to me when she said that she procesed everything. The company said that she should not have given me the kit w/out an agreement set in place. They also said that the kit needs to go back to her. I'm going to call the bank and have them deny charges just in case she tries to process it anyway.
raisinberry   |2009-04-28 16:51:16
avatar sassy...what you are describing in a common "M.O.". I was told by my Senior the same thing when one of my recruits was backing out...."tell her its already processed". The idea was that you would be resigned to the coming starter kit and just go along...at least there was a chance. This is what we mean by the little tiny small white lies that lead to the much bigger ones.

Clearly they didnt have your signature on an agreement..so guess what...NOW they would have to fake it.

And believe it or not, there are some Directors in the Pink reading this right now who are scratching their heads wondering whats wrong with "helping you" think more clearly about this by delaying your refund/return...with not a thought to how UNETHICAL, LYING is.

I doubt they will mess with your card now---its out in the open.

What a nightmare for customer service. You would think MK Corp would SEE how pressured Directors are and stop the madness!
sassygrll01   |2009-04-30 11:37:06
So, the Director that I've been dealing with calls me today after I sent her a message saying please tell me where to ship this box or I will figure it out on my own. When she called me back today, she told me to keep the kit as it's a $300 value and I'm only getting for $100. Then she went on to say that since I like MK products it makes sense since I will get to buy the products for half off just because i bought the starter kit. She was at the airport and said she'd call me later to gather my info! After I got off the phone, I said to myself, "she is still trying to scam me". Right???? Get my info??? She still wants to sign me up as a consultant. I'm over this and returning the damn kit.

avatar Good for you, Sassy.

"Noooooo, it makes sense that I have made my decision, and you should respect that. Back off, wench!"
sassygrll01   |2009-04-30 13:25:56
She hasn't charged my credit card or anything so I should just return the box to the company right?
dupedbypinkfriend   |2009-04-30 14:36:16
avatar Yes, if it is unopened, you can take it to UPS and send it back. See if they will return it without charging you by saying that you refused this shipment. If not, it is still worth it to pay. And call MKC again, tell them that you do not want any charges posted to your card.
manthafifi  - 2 week old consultant, unhappy   |2009-06-05 22:37:39
I have opened and started using several (5) of the products from my starter kit. can i return the unused products from it?
I have had no parties, orders, etc. Thanks!
puc4now   |2009-06-05 23:35:17
avatar I don't think you can. When I called Repurchase, the first thing they asked was, "Has the kit been opened? (Yes) Then it is not returnable." You can call them to ask just to make sure, but I think the answer will be, "No."

What you can do then is contact touchofpinkcosmetics.com and see what unopened section 1 items they will buy. They might buy section 2 supplies, so ask. I'm not sure. They pay 50% of wholesale, not 90% so you will be losing out a bit, but this is a much better deal then trying to sell them one at a time on eBay. Good luck.

Oh, and if you are quitting MK, call MK and tell them to cancel your consultant number. We've seen in the past that SD's will submit phony orders in your name if you do not cancel it.

Thank you SO much for this info. I signed up a few days ago with MK and have decided not to do it. I had asked my director how long I would have to decide, if I decided I wanted to send my starter kit back, and she told me 1 year. And she didn't warn me (of course) that opening it meant I couldn't send it back.

I was away from home today when I got a call from UPS today telling me they had my package but because the apartment number wasn't on the label they couldn't deliver it. I had told them to hold it for me and then I would pick it up from them later. But now I will tell them I am refusing the package and to send it back.

Thank God for incomplete shipping information! Had I been home when they tried to deliver it I would have opened it and tried some stuff inside it for sure.

Also, thanks puc4now for the tip on canceling my consultant number. I am wondering how I will handle tell my director I quit. Or if I will just avoid her and let her take the hint.

Hopefully it doesn't take too long for them to refund the money to my card.
puc4now   |2009-08-29 00:13:04
avatar You're welcome. Be sure to stay on top of your credit card billing. First find out from your bank what date the charge went through. Then call corporate to tell them you have refused delivery of the starter kit and the charge was processed on your card on such and such a date. Ask them when the refund will be processed and say you will be calling them to follow up until you receive the credit. Then you can ask them to make sure your consultant number is cancelled.

Sometimes you just have to be persistent. Good call on quitting before starting!
Observant   |2009-08-30 19:04:45
Thanks again puc for your advice. I will definitely have MK tell me EXACTLY what they are putting back on my card and when (and that I will be following up with them).  Especially since MK charged me a little bit more than the recruiter wrote they would be charging me on my IBC agreement.

Also, do they refund the $100 plus tax or without tax? Also, just to be clear, I should wait until I get my refund to have them cancel my consultant number? Or do they cancel it automatically and I just need to confirm the number has been canceled after I get my refund? Thank you again for your help.
