What a complete waste of a beautiful home. It won't be long before it is back on the market though. We all know that MK does not pay the rent!
How much do you love your Mary Kay "sisters"? Enough to buy a house with them?
Well this consultant in Arkansas did . She posted this note on her Facebook page along with the below photos.
Take a look at our BRAND NEW MK Studio. We -meaning myself and other area consultants/directors- just purchased thehouse the formerly hosted Petals Florist. It is a beautiful 1920's 3 story Ft. Smith origional that we will slowly bring back to it's 1920's grandeur!! Take a look and join me on Monday night's to try Mary Kay products and be pampered!!!
Location: 910 S. Greenwood Ave Fort Smith, AR 72903
Here's the record from the tax assessor's office. If it was purchased by a group of people recently, the sale isn't in the system yet. (It can take months in some places for this data to be updated.)
Now, of course, selling products out of a "studio" like this violates the consultant agreement , as Mary Kay consultants are not allowed to sell from a fixed location (i.e. retail establishment). The studios that Mary Kay directors and consultants rent (or buy!) do count as a fixed location, and no product sales are supposed to happen there... only meetings and product demonstrations. (But we know how Mary Kay likes to selectively enforce the rules.)
Pictures of the studio...

OMG! What a beautiful home. I wonder whose husband has the money to float this venture since we all know that these poor ladies won't be able to in the long run.
-
16 Sep 2009 00:43 | ciavyn
Holy crap! That's insane. not to mention, are they allowed to "infer" Mary Kay on the sign like that? All the meeting places I've seen that have signs are very carefully worded. "Consultant training" or "Success Training" or something like that. This is nuts. These women are out of control. Wake up - it's not your own business. Corpse can shut you down at any point!
-
16 Sep 2009 00:45 | pinkpiddlin
Me thinks (IMHO) the signs are ok because they say MK not Mary Kay and of course, they stayed awsy from the color pink. However, they really aren't supposed to sell out of any training center....that is why we go out to the trunk of the car after the demo....we sell out of the trunk

I was on a lease with 9 other directors in my town. Of course the idea was "training" but we did facials, classes and interviews as well.
Corporate would not even allow us to list our business name on the building directory in the hall! We did have to fill orders out of a cooler in our trunk.
Not to mention is was in a bad part of town and still cost us $2,500 a month with a lease of 2 years.
Finding a meeting space is the bane
of a directors existence and I can understand the need but, before they signed on the dotted line, someone must have checked with corportate.
So how does it happen that they could get by with this? It all depends on who your national is and how much pull she has. It's just another case of favoritism and nobody knowing what's happening at Mary Kay. Sometimes they enforce their rules and sometimes not. And yes, it is out of control!
That town now has a great big beautiful hive where they can sting everyone they bring in. On second thought, maybe that's why Corp broke their own rule.
Doesn't this stuff make you crazy!?!
Unfairness for many and money for them, that's the Mary Kay way!
-
16 Sep 2009 01:43 | raisinberry
There is no way Corporate knew about this prior to purchase, and after today, they are sure to pay a visit.
If these ladies went ahead in ignorance, they are going to pay a terrible price because if MK pulls their agreements, they are going to have to join ACORN and open a brothel.
-

Oh brother! I've been in this kind of situation before, and I guarantee the fur will fly as soon as the first SD who loses her directorship defaults on her portion of the mortgage.

What a pink nightmare!

Effort on your behalf = 100%+
Effort of the "others" in your "unit"= 10% IF you are lucky...Oh and she judges pageants (nothing against pageants) but I wonder if contestants rate higher if they are wearing super berry or some other gosh awful pink lipstick???
-
16 Sep 2009 02:32 | frauded1
Oh can she post all those MK pictures in her profile? She has pics (from the MK website) of "satin hands" and the likes. Facebook and Mary Kay should not let her post them as they are not HER property....
Wake up and smell the pink puke!

Raisin - you are hilarious! I can tell we are going to get along just fine at the meetup!
I wonder if these ladies approached ACORN in the first place, though?
MK Woman: We'd like to open an illegal retail shop, swindle under-informed American women into dropping their drawers and bending over, and use the money to finance our own campaign for National Sales Director. Do you have any advice for us?
Acorn rep: I think that sounds like a good idea. Just make sure to keep them in the pink cloud...

My SD/NSD told one of the girls in my unit that it was perfectly fine to stock and sell her product at the front desk at a gym. I told her I didn't think it was a good idea. Whenever we'd ask my SD/NSD about any MK rules, she would always say to do whatever we wanted until someone told us "no". Great role model, huh?
I had a place I rented with a few other directors (crappy little space in the bottom floor (basement) of a building) for a year. We didn't have many issues. Another director in my nat'l area owned an office condo and rented it to a bunch of other directors. They were always at each other's throats about EVERYTHING. I think these girls buying this house together is an absolute recipe for disaster...
-
16 Sep 2009 04:08 | Angelwoman
These women are completely pink brainwashed! MK gives capes away as prizes. Are they pink? LOL They can wear their capes to the meetings (covens) in this house and be pink witches. Scary, but appropriate for Halloween coming up. This house is located in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Bentonville, Arkansas is where the Walmart corporate headquarters is located. There is probably a Walmart on ever corner in Arkansas. How can you compete with the huge Walmart Cosmetics Department? Today 09/16/09, there are 27,189 entries on Ebay. Some entries have 300 and 200 items. You can buy a ginormous amount of deeply discounted MK from Ebay. Why go to this house???
-
16 Sep 2009 04:22 | recoveringmkaddict
Oh my gosh! The expense of it all! I can't imagine..the signage alone had to cost a fortune. Looking at the photos just makes me think $$$$ going out that will not come back.
I shared a training center with several Directors for over five years. It was a storefront and reasonable at $125 a month. Because I was established with meetings, I attracted a lot of adoptees. I consistently offsprang adoptees rather than my own offspring. I found it irritating that the higher up the Senior Director, the harder it was to collect any kind of reimbursement for expenses for adoptees.
I know the Director whose name was on the lease took a huge hit, especially when Directors came and went. Most of the Directors in this area now use free restaurant meeting rooms. I found it highly unprofessional to get into my suit and hose and deal with the teens who worked at Donatos. That was the beginning of the end for me.
I feel SO FREE now because I don't have to worry about all the things I worried about for so many years as a Sales Director. Funny, I carried an extra 20-25 pounds on my body the entire time I was a Director. Not anymore! The weight literally melted off of me effortlessly. Coincidence? I think not!!

Raisin - that is so funny
love the humor today.
It may also violate city ordinance laws as well. It looks like it is in a residential area.???
RM sold out (& still does) of her house all the time. She is now advertising MK in her house "business" window by sneakily putting MK magazines that say Mary Kay in print &/or gift bags in her mk room window. Again, a violation of city ordinances.
-

Its kind of a pretty little place!
Well if it doesn't' work I think it could definitely be changed over (at not a whole lot of extra expense) into a bordello.
Although...if this is in a residential neighborhood the neighbors might have an issue with Ray-Ray hanging out in front.
Or..maybe it already is! These women aren't going to pay their rent selling Miracle Sets...I wonder if they tell possible recruits they could use one of the bedrooms upstairs for afternoon delights?
Oh, and since it used to belong to a florist, its already zoned business so they probably don't have to worry about that.

What a beautiful home. The kitchen is a touch too small, for my liking. The food table looks yummy. LOL I bet Corp does nothing about it.
I do feel like a fool about something. I just saw a Cover Girl commercial on tv with Rihanna. I remember being told years ago that MK saves money and keeps their costs down by NOT using celebrities. Last time I checked, Cover Girl mascara is priced anywhere from $5 to $12. The whole Cover Girl line is inexpensive. So tell me again, why MK's product prices are so high - especially when MK doesn't use celebs to promote their products?

Oh the nightmares and conflicts I can imagine if something goes south (as it can and often does in these situations.)

On the subject of the article...wow, I can't really take the whole thing in! I am in the process of buying a house right now and the market is crazy out there...don't let anyone say different. For one property there will be 10 offers...outbidding the listed price...so someone shelled out a chunk of change for sure. And, how sad that MK Corporate will most likely do nothing. I agree...they will pick and choose..and I doubt that the group that created this did not check ahead to make sure that an investment of that size would not blow up in their faces. They got a green light somewhere.. This is flagrant...and unlevels the shaky playing ground of MK sales for the poor woman who is going up against that banded group of directors/IBC's...who could compete with that? Wow. Thats amazing.

Okay, the name MK Studios combined with pink balloons, and shirts in the windows that say PINK something or other....spells a Mary Kay house to me.
But they get upset when ToP uses the word "pink"?

-

I really think that in these tough times, they shoul open a brothel on the second floor of the house. They can use their MK training in this endeavor too! Like.. "what would be better for you? The beginning of the day or the end of the day?" And.."how would you like to pay for that? VISA, Mastercard or the wife unawareness program"?
The business slogan downstairs reads "Enriching women's lives." The sign for the upstairs business could read.."Nobody can screw you like Mary Kay!"

Out - so true - I think they've always carried "Our Beloved Founder" a bit too far. Does anyone remember a couple of years ago (maybe even last year) how the company had for the Court of Sales if you get to the $48K level, you get a portrait of MK - (in addition to whatever trinket you chose) - that must have been the portrait - so think of all the credit card debit that Director is carrying, and now a mortgage?! So scary - especially in today's economy - oh that right, she's just "choosing not to participate" - I forgot!

What a nightmare in the making this is! I was on a 4 year lease with 11 other directors. The problems started when some of those directors either stepped down or lost their units. They were still on the lease and expected to pay their part. But 3 of them did not. So the rent goes up for the rest.
When I decided to let my unit go and leave MK, I was expected to pay rent but they wanted me to turn in my keys. It was a mess. My former Senior talked to several nationals and top directors claiming that I was doing all sorts of things on the property, including drinking and bringing in suspicious people. I was using a room to have meetings with volunteers of the ministry I work for. I also had a Bible Study meeting there.
It was such a bad idea to sign a lease with that many women and for that length of time. Finally the lease ended a few months ago and I am finally free. I can't even imagine being a joint owner with other Sales Directors. This is insane.
There are so many hidden cost such as liability insurance, maintenance, upkeep and utilities. We fought about everything during that 4 years.

The cutoff comments in that picture are because the screen is too narrow. Close sidebars as I've suggested above, or change your screen resolution to fit more on the screen. I, too am having probs with the margins
on my 'puter screen. Only started
since we had the missing daily chats
that Tracy placed a comment about
on the message boards. I've tried
resetting my settings and such, but to
no avail. I can read the whole
article if I click on the print icon
at the top of each article but
then I have to slide my tool bar
spacer back and forth to get all
the information. It's frustrating
to say the least.
I don't seem to have a problem on
the discussion board posts, just
with the article you post for
reading and comments.
Now as to this post. I'm VERY sur-
prised these women are getting
away with this. I've seen so many
things done, which were supposed to
be against the "rules" Such as I
thought it was not OK to set up
booths at city events. We have
several city-sponsored events in my
town yearly. It never fails that
I see at least one booth with Mary
Kay - and they are selling the
products.
Also at our "Success Center" they
sold products at every meeting.
They would fill the roll-up bags
with the standard products and
offer it at a "sale price" for any
person who was participating
in a facial
. In addition they
passed around the LOOK book and
let people order whatever they wanted
We all brought our supply bags in
to our respective unit rooms and were told to come with additional product
in the car to retrieve if one of
our guests wanted to purchase some-
thing.
I think the MK people around here do
whatever they want. It seems you
have to be dishonest in order to
make any money.
I always thought it was stupid to
not allow a person to sell items in
public - such as at fairs or city
events. After all, you were putting
the company's product in the public
eye. Silly me, I forgot MK is not
concerned about "selling" there stuff
to customers, just the people who
"work" for them
Also, we had a MKA Foundation event
sponsored here when I was still a
consultant. Our local minor league
hockey team sponsored a "Pink at the
Rink" two years in a row. The one I
went to had a gazillion MK consultants
set up all around the mezzanine level
of the stadium, selling everything.
Corpse supposedly endorsed this event
as it raised over $40,000 dollars for
the Breast Cancer Fund.
Guess they didn't care then either
what was being sold or how :s . I find
it odd that no one knew since we
had the lady (can't remember her
name) who was MKAsh's personal
assistant there for the event.

That is my dream house, I would do anything for that. Of course I am a broke college student. I will be several years before that will even be a REMOTE possibility for me.

I just recieved a request
for items, from my director,
for an upcoming yardsale to
"raise funds" for our
training center.
I'm not sure why the need
the funds. I don't go to
the meetings anymore and
haven't for some time.
Wonder how long it will be
before the house from this
article is doing a yard sale
to "raise funds" to keep
its doors open?

first of all, the margins have finally corrected themselves - thanks Tracy!
Second, the foolishness of these women amaze me. The cost of purchasing the house, furnishing the house, decorating the house, the utilities, taxes, the list goes on. Sheer foolishness!
Hey, did anyone see the portrait pictures of the Directors on one of the walls? All lined up like the Nationals in the MK Museum - oh I forgot - they're just thinking positively... all the way to bankruptcy court!
Oh Dear, how to write that clause is a dilemma. How about this?"If I, Dazee Drecktor, become a lazy good-for nothing who stops working her business, I agree to continue to pay my part of the mortgage although I will be banned and shunned and spoken ill of by my erstwhile best friends."
Lazy, the sad thing here is that, that's exactly how the SD's do see it and that's not considered negative at all, in their world!
:s I'm curious to know how, in the world, does an SD that resigned/stepped down get out of a mortgage payment?
If she can't, by law, she allowed to reside and/or use the house.
Boy, they are soooo lucky that I wasn't on that mortgage!
