Those who have tried to make a true living with Mary Kay will tell you that it is anything but stressful. Yet here is one sales director's description of how easy it is.
Ever considered a less stressful way to pay the bills: It's great to be open minded about other options in today's economy because of the changing job market. Plus, I believe that no knowledge is lost; it just makes us more powerful as women. This may or may not be a fit. My job is not to persuade women to change careers by any means but simply to educate them on the changes with our company and the career.

Mary Kay consultants and directors are always trying so hard to prove that the company is "on trend." Never mind that the company has been way behind on plenty of trends, including tinted moisturizer, tinted lip balm, microdermabrasion, and more.
The latest recruiting technique is so forward thinking! Recruit women with text messages! Doesn't that sound so hip and happening? It just sounds like another ineffective avenue of harassment that wastes everyone's time. When will Mary Kay consultants get it through their heads that women aren't taking their phone calls or replying to their emails because they're not interested??? Here's the groundbreaking texting technique being promoted in Mary Kay by one national sales director

An email I received from a very "successful" woman who has been in Mary Kay a whole month! I started selling Mary Kay a little over a month ago, and I happened to run across your site this morning. I find your site to be extremely one-sided. Of course, not everyone is cut out to run a business, not everyone is cut out to be a Mary Kay consultant, or you would find everyone selling it, if it was sooo easy. I am not sure what kind of Sales Directors those people on your site have but they were obviously not of any caliber. I was never lied to or told that I NEEDED to buy inventory. I still haven't bought any inventory yet and have already made over $2,000 for my family from Mary Kay. And I do not have any other source of income. I have three children under the age of four and I don't have much time to put into my business but I am doing well. I thinkk your website unfairly takes the positions of those who could not fit into the Mary Kay program and makes it seem like a scam or an illegitimate business. That is a ridiculous thing as I happen to be finding success with this business. But like I said, to each his own, but if you want your cause to be taken seriously, consider talking in facts, and not taking the words of a few bitter people and claiming it as the Mary Kay Way.

Sometimes at the unit meeting when the scorecard segment is announced... "Mary had a $300 week! Okay, we make 50% of everything we sell, so, that’s $150 profit. Let’s see, that’s $75 per hour! Not bad for two hours of work, eh, Mary? And I’ll bet Mary doesn’t make $75 per hour at her J.O.B! Gee, think what would happen if you worked a few more hours, Mary? Wow!" So, I suppose technically that’s not a lie, but it certainly is deceptive. What we don’t know is how long it took Mary to book these appointments. We are not entirely sure if it was that mythical $300 class that most of us had every time we had a class, or if Mary has tons of customers who had reorders. It gets a little more complicated than the 2 hours allotted for the scoreboard. But that’s one of those little details that Cindy Williams talks about when she says, “Just get there and then figure it out!” When we turned in that goose egg, zero sales weeks accomplishment sheets at the meetings, we were told it was okay... we needed to get that over with, it happens to everybody, and it was a new week. So, we just needed to work more! After all, Mary Kay works when you do! OK, let’s just go with that for a moment.

The debate rages on between the “pro” and “anti” sides of the debate about Mary Kay Cosmetics. On one side, we have women who claim Mary Kay has a wonderful opportunity that has enriched many women. Everything in Mary Kay is optional, and only lazy losers who didn’t work hard enough and couldn’t say no to the occasional unethical director failed. On the other side, you have women who have the ability to apply logic and reason to the situation They realize that since 99% of women lose money in Mary Kay and MLMs in general , this isn’t a wonderful opportunity. They know that Mary Kay has put millions of women in debt. They understand that manipulation and dishonesty is rampant in Mary Kay, and that women are pushed to their limits and skillfully guilted and coerced by their corrupt uplines. They see that almost no one succeeds in Mary Kay for obvious reasons: It’s a recruiting scheme that relies on the constant recruitment of new blood, who bring with it fresh credit cards, dreams of staying at home with their children, and the eagerness that allows inventory frontloading.

While in and out of Mary Kay, you undoubtedly were told over and over how easy it is to sell Mary Kay Cosmetics. You were probably told that the products fly right off the shelf. And you sold some products at first, and you were encouraged. Until you realized they were mostly pity purchases by family and firends.
Other than that, you found it very difficult to sell products. Sure, you had a good week here or there. But you found you were discounting and giving hostess credit which ate into your profits. Every time you had a little money in hand, there was a new product or a packaging redesign, and you found yourself no further ahead. But it was really all your fault, right? Your director said how easy it was to sell these products, yet she had the big closet full of products. Your recruiter assured you the extra order would be easy to sell, yet she had a basement filled with products. Were you the only one having a hard time selling? No. Of course not. The Mary Kay business model is outdated and you're doomed for failure. Between the zillions of brands available on the internet and wonderful stores like Ulta and Sephora, it's next to impossible for you to build a substantial, profitable retail selling base.

Over the years as I have contributed here at Pink Truth, I started noticing that there were largely two groups of Mary Kay victims. Individuals have their distinct stories, but throughout the majority of anti-Mary Kay sentiment, there emerged a distinct line between those who stayed in, bee-lieving for the best and able to function without results and those who were able to figure it out pretty quick, trusting their gut, that enabled them to cut losses. Of the women and men who got hammered by the scheme, there were also a series of remarks and feelings that they shared that were all similar to each other. A common denominator started emerging. Many questioned how did I fall for this? Why did I stay doing it, while I hurt myself and my own family? When I knew things didn’t add up, why did I pretend that they did? Why did I stay silent just because it was assumed we wouldn’t share “negative” things? These questions and more plunged me back into counseling I had received early in my twenties, concerning the effects of being raised in an alcoholic home. Recently revisiting this history, as I resumed counseling once again, has convinced me that Mary Kay and all other MLM systems that use the same dynamics, are capitalizing on the poor decision making, coping skills, denial and rationalizing behaviors of those of us who may have crawled out from under the dysfunctional rock, never having truly healed the wounds.

How much do you love your Mary Kay "sisters"? Enough to buy a house with them? Well this consultant in Arkansas did . She posted this note on her Facebook page along with the below photos. Take a look at our BRAND NEW MK Studio. We -meaning myself and other area consultants/directors- just purchased thehouse the formerly hosted Petals Florist. It is a beautiful 1920's 3 story Ft. Smith origional that we will slowly bring back to it's 1920's grandeur!! Take a look and join me on Monday night's to try Mary Kay products and be pampered!!! Location: 910 S. Greenwood Ave Fort Smith, AR 72903
Here's the record from the tax assessor's office. If it was purchased by a group of people recently, the sale isn't in the system yet. (It can take months in some places for this data to be updated.) Now, of course, selling products out of a "studio" like this violates the consultant agreement , as Mary Kay consultants are not allowed to sell from a fixed location (i.e. retail establishment). The studios that Mary Kay directors and consultants rent (or buy!) do count as a fixed location, and no product sales are supposed to happen there... only meetings and product demonstrations. (But we know how Mary Kay likes to selectively enforce the rules.) Pictures of the studio...

You absolutely HAVE to become a Mary Kay director now! It's all about the suit, and the prestige that represents. It's all about the cheap ring you receive when you become a director. But mostly it's about the money!!!!
Don't you want unlimited earnings? Don't you want financial freedom??? All this can be yours... NOT IN MARY KAY, IT CAN'T. Yet again, women are being lured into going for directorship with false earnings claims . Oh sure, it seems okay if they place a little disclaimer on their numbers, saying that you *might* not achieve these numbers and these numbers are *only* if you max out on all available compensation opportunities. But I disagree. Put all the disclaimers you want, but we all know that women WILL believe these numbers are common. Which is a LIE.
