Why You Shouldn't Read Pink Truth If You're in the Pink Fog

From a Mary Kay sales director to other sales directors:

Hey Ladies,

I'm not sure if everyone realizes this, but every single time we go to a negative MK site "just to see" what is going on there we increase their hits which causes their sites to come up higher on search engines.

What does that mean to us. It's simple. Anyone who is thinking about becoming a consultant could have her dream taken from her if she decides to go online to do some research herself and happens to land on one of these sites. Now we all know that our success is this company is up to us and that we are bound by God & the company to do it the right way. We also know that there are those that haven't done it right and we need to pray for those they hurt and for them to.

Not only can it affect your team building, it also affects your attitude about your own business. It's hard to build an impenetrable wall around yourself of positivity. It's even harder to keep it. Everytime we allow ourselves to read this stuff, it absolutely affects our attitude or belief, and many will start to self-doubt and that starts a downhill spiral of emotions that could kill your dream. Do you really want that for yourself or anyone else for that matter. You have to reach up to go up. Don't take a chance even once reaching down. You cannot afford it. You become like the 5 people you hang around the most. Has one of these sites become one of your people? (Yes, unfortunately we now live in a society that internet sites see more of us than most people.)

These sites will only go away if they don't get any hits. They relish in the fact that people go to see just out of curiosity. It always does more harm than good.

I really hurt for all those that have been misled &/or mistreated. I just know that my mission is to never make the same mistakes so as to never harm anyone in my unit.

I am also thankful for the fact that this has happened to only a very small percentage of women who have chosen the Mary Kay journey. There are more of us that are good & Godly women who really do strive to enrich women's lives and live by the Golden Rule and Go-Give philosophy!

We all know that every decision we make should be in her best interest, not our own. So, let's not allow theses negative sites anymore ammunition and ban ourselves from those sites. As Directors, we have an obligation to ourselves, our company, and our unit to protect ourselves, our company, and our unit. One way to do that is to stay off these sites.

You know for the first 11 years in my business, I never knew anything about these sites. Only when I joined the cc did they come to my attention. The one thing I regret is going to see for myself one day. Reading that site totally ruined my day and now looking back, I now realize it ruined more than just that one day for me. I still catch myself doubting my skill, ability, belief, etc. and am having to fight those negative thoughts even harder. Yes, it was my own choice to take a look, but I'll never do it again. It cost me too much emotionally. I'll stick to positive MK tapes and listening to Top Sales Directors and Nationals on how to do this business the right way. I will not be taken down any longer.

Hmm? Wonder if that was her conscience trying to help her realize the sick feelings she experienced were really due to the fact that "the site" she read held more truth than all the lies she is believing and spreading.

People in MK will continue to fail and be hurt and because of those two reasons, the "negative" sites will exist to help them recover.

Pink Truth ROCKS and so does all those sites who exist to inform the unsuspecting.

avatar I've seen an email like that personally! I've had a SD friend tell me about this site! (I'm so glad she did and I'm so glad I checked it out!)

The reason she had a bad day is - her conscience was trying to say "hello, remember me?... you really need to take a long look at all of this?!" She is purposely ignoring her built-in "checks & balance" system, and continuing down the rosy path.

Thank God I paid attention to my conscience that day - otherwise I could still be fogged in and still failing.

Thanks Tracy for getting this all started - I can't tell you how theraputic it has been for me.

If this SD is so concerned about those SD's that don't do it right- how about this idea: Confront them! Expose them! Praying is good - but sometimes more action is needed. She's most likely scared that the claws of the other will come out and leave a mark. So much for stopping the corruption, huh.

Why should anyone have to "build a wall of impenetrable positivity" in order to be successful in something? Ups and downs will happen in any legitimate business venture, but true successful entrepreneurs will consider the negatives and make adjustments in their business plans and practices - NOT close their eyes, stick their fingers in their ears and sing "LA LA LA LA LA."

If you own a normal business, you'll self-doubt at times, but it won't send you into a downward spiral that makes you want to quit. But that's because a legitimate business is not an MLM, which functions only when people are kept from the truth.

The Internet and sites like Pink Truth make life so much harder for directors these days.  THANKS, Tracy!!!!

You Directors see the numbers! 

You know that your unit is ordering more than they are selling, yet you continue to push the "dream" on new recruits because your job depends on it.

I personally stumbled onto this site about 16 months ago and was silly enough to ask my SD about it. It was a novel thought that someone could possibly think ill our "our company". Silly me, I got the pink positivity talk til I was green

That chat along with a friend who left MK who challenged me back to this site to read, are the human influences to my coming out of the fog. Like many, we can agree that our consciences had been screaming to us for sometime. We had chosen the mute button to silence the truth.

Thanks Tracy for this site. Thanks to the relentless tenacity of the writers to not grow weary in challenging the lies and pointing to the truth. You are my true heroes.

I only wish I had had this particular website available to me before I ever signed my agreement. In other words, I never would have signed.

And oh, BTW sales director, thank you so much for stirring up the curiosity of all those who received your email. You did PinkTruth a great B-I-G favor by directing all your recipients directly into our hot little hands.

And here's another fallacy. This Director (bless her heart) wants to do Mary Kay "the right way". Ok. Let's see if she does.

This Director sends out email reminders to add up monthly sales and only order 60% of that amount, unless you have planed and have marketing in place for a large selling event within the next two weeks.

This Director has produced her own On Target / DIQ manual that includes all the missing information about chargebacks,co-pays, Unit maintainance, actual turnover figures, Unit ordering breakdowns, and the truth about Production coming from New Recruits Star orders.

This Director no longer attends regional or national events where other Directors manipulate with false information and false promises along with religious indoctrination.

This Director has tried all "all you have to do is" IPA suggestions to see if they actually work in real life-not on paper only, in order not to frustrate her Unit members by trying to appear knowledgeable, while destroying their self esteem when they do not work.

This Director teaches in the field doing classes FOR her consultants. Real ones-not roll plays.

This Director takes recruits WITH her on her own appointments.

This Director demonstrates actual booking techniques LIVE to teach the hardest part of this business.

This Director does NOT recruit from the Debut of her new Unit members, because she does NOT want to kill her show lines.

This Director does not move women up the career path until they are successful selling consistent star consultants who have confidence in their abilities, in order to foster real leadership.

ANd because this Director does all these things....She isn't making production and is having her farewell luncheon this afternoon.

So yea, tell us again about being an Ethical Mary Kay Director?

It has been a source of healing for me as well. I wonder how many of you girls are like me – from MK International. Even though MK has been in Europe for over 20 years, we don’t have a sounding board like Pink Truth to get real answers.

The first few weeks after I stopped the “madness” in MK - I found PT. I just kept reading all the information until I pretty much read every article. The information here confirmed all of negative things I saw and experienced while in MK. I could identify with so many of the posts written here. Many times what I read brought me to tears and other times to laughter. (For the first time I felt freedom and the process of healing and closure began.)

Honestly, there isn’t another person in the world that I know who I can hash-out about what went wrong in MK. I mean my husband can only take so much and then he’s had enough, ya know what I mean? NOBODY understood me when I tried to explain things. Sometimes I got this look of “poor thing just failed at it…so many other women obviously succeeded with it”…!!!

Even on the other side of the world – MK is the same everywhere you go. Same lies, same manipulations, same preaching / teachings, same cult-like ways. Just in a different language!!

Thank all of you women who take the time out of your busy lives to share your stories, too!

Keep writing - you don't know how far around the world you are helping women. Smart girls always look for the truth - and they will find Pink Truth when they are ready.

An Independent Beauty Consultant recently posted on “Let’s Talk!” PartySM: 

“Due to the economy, I’ve noticed that my sales are down. In particular, I’m finding that my customers want cleansing products, which is making it a bit harder to move some of the color items I currently have. I’m also finding that my customers don’t want to host parties. Can you suggest some ideas that might help me re-energize my sales and get some parties booked?”

And here's another good one:
I am astounded by the numbers of parties reported by the top 50's. How does one go about booking enough in a week to hold 30 or more - let alone coach & pre-profile - let alone handle all the class set-up and supplies and inventory - let alone present 5 classes a day for 6 days straight, all the while handling some semblance of the rest of her life?
And how long do you think this one will last????
I'm having such a hard time getting people to book. I called two weeks ago and tonight a list of at least 14 and contacted about 6 and everyone says they are too busy. Or they say they need to call me. I am discouraged. I been in for several months this time and not 1 class. Just couple facials. I'm telling them of what they will get and asking.

The replies to these are quite amusing, same old rah-rah, blah-blah-blah ideas that have been around for MK decades. Bottom line, no one wants to be bothered to have a party and no one wants to by MK.

Now that I know every time you go to Pink Truth it causes PT to come up higher in the search engines I will go to PT every time I pass my computer - I have it in my favorites. That would be about 50 times a day. Mayeb ALL of us who regularly read the TRUTH will and then we can reach more and more of your pink ostrich kaybots.

I own a small business and we HAVE to know what others are saying. A REAL business person is not afraid,doesn't turn a blind eye - it is MARKET RESEARCH so you can plan your own sucessful marketing campaigns. You have to do what your competitors are NOT. Another proof that MK is not and never can be, a real business.

There are too many lies of omission that you have to speak to get the results of just making production every month. It really can't be done.

This whole time I thought that the meaning of this picture was...
It's months end, she hasn't met production and now she has to pull out her credit card...AGAIN!  

But now I'm wondering....
Is that Pink Truth on her screen?! Is she battling with her conscience but blaming PT for doubting herself and her "reformed" belief?

We all bent over backwards and wasted our time, breath, gasoline and money trying to get people to buy this overpriced crap and we found out that it's up to everyone else whether or not they want to buy this stuff. It's not up to us. If people are dumb enough to buy these products, we make a small dollar or two but if they are smart and tell us forget it, we can't give this stuff away for free. The only way your success is up to you is if you persue a REAL career that pays you a REAL wage and doesn't put you in the poor house with a crooked company that feeds you b.s promises of your career dreams coming true if you work for them as they have their hands in your back pocket.

What is sad is that this is probably a very sweet woman who is actually horrified by the things being said about Mary Kay. She believes that she works for the best company in the world, and she believes that when she convinces women to lock themselves into incredible debt, that it is truly the best thing for themselves and their families. Don't misunderstand me -- there are some in MK who do it with their eyes wide open. They know they are abusing and taking advantage of women and their trust. But I believe many more - like this director whom I've probably met - are truly so deep in the pink fog, it's gut-wrenching for them to believe that anything they see as true could be anything otherwise.

Interesting point. Maybe it falls underneath the "It's not negative if we do it!" mentality. There are two specific instances in which it appears to be okay to be negative in MK (there may be more, but it's these two that I've seen repeatedly):

1. It's okay to use negativity as a recruiting tool, as in, What if you're a victim of downsizing/what if your job fires you/why don't you just order the starter kit behind your husband's back and get his opinion AFTER you've joined?"

2. It's okay to be negative if you're using it to reference anyone who dares to speak against MK and/or has left the business, as in "Those disgruntled lazy LOOSERS didnt werk their businesses hard enough and had no beelief!"

I once questioned NSD Caterina Harris on some quotes she'd made in a YouTube video.  One quote she'd made was, "When nothing's happening, go get a Gold Medal." For those that may not know, getting a Gold Medal means recruiting 5 bodies.

I left the comment of, "So let me get this straight, when nobody's buying the makeup and you can't get a booking, go out and convince five women that what you do is the greatest thing in the world - where's the logic in that?"

My inquiry was promptly deleted and I received the required-no-mental-effort-what soever response of "Thank God for Mary Kay Ash and our company."

Why are these drones so fearful of examining their own words??

Oh wow, I wonder if that is who my SD friend talked to or that is just NSD speak. This was about 4 plus years ago when she noticed her recruiting was way way way down, people were leaving MK and her unit was just not bubbling like it used to. She had said the year before, I want to be a future national now! I was a customer and she had remarked on more than one occasion, she wished I had not returned my product...
Well she calls the NSD to say, hey my 18 yr unit is suffering.... She thought this NSD would be able to help her see the light. Her reply- "I think you need to win gold medal" and that was it.

Yep, the truth hurts. And when it is staring at you straight in the face, you must decide if you want to continue to be a manipulative, money hungry wretch of a human being, sucking the life blood out of the women who trust you, or God forbid, you get out and eat the loss yourself.

Now that you have been here, and you will surely be back, what's it gonna be, yes or no?

She will be back, because she states that now she has to "fight those negative thoughts even harder", and it is obvious that her guilt or doubt is getting to her since she was fighting it before she ever came a'calling.

avatar Dupie, I was thinking about what you just brought up and I'm reminded about my own experience with Pink Truth. The first time I came here, I was looking for other info about the company. Yes I was shocked but I couldn't shake off what I recognized as truth. I didn't come back for a while after that. Just like the Director above I stayed away.
It scared me but caused me to examine things and slowly I was awakened.

I'm reminded about the huge responsibility we have when we finally realize the truth.
If you know the truth and you continue to repeat lies and deceive and abuse women, you have sold your soul to the devil! And for nothing more than a measly commission check that will be gone in a week!

Lurkers: Step into the truth and the light. You know in your heart of hearts what Mary Kay does. Get honest with yourself and quit selling your body, mind and spirit to a company who cares nothing about you!

I hope the director who wrote this letter to her sister directors will come back and receive her freedom from bondage. Just like I did. Just like we all did!

avatar fresh, i had the same reaction. I came initially to defend and offer a possible explanation for all the problems with MK. It got into my soul though..and here's why. It's the truth and every Director knows it. Consultants probably don't, but DIQ's and Directors definately have seen what we are sharing. SO you go away from here and try to do Mary Kay "the right way". I have to laugh at that. There IS no "right way". If you do it "the right way"...your Unit is gone within 3 months.

As long as Directors keep pushing women up the career path, baiting excessive orders, manipulating them into adding what's needed to go "on target", or to maintain DIQ, recruiting their customers and hostesses out from under them,failing to teach sales, failing to teach responsible money management, using that euphanism.."stretch" as a justifier to make star, courts, Unit production, etc..., lying about their own personal business, lying about their own personal activity, withholding product change info, etc etc, Directors will come here and become CONVICTED. Got news for ya Sally sales director. It isn't Negativity that sours your outlook on Mary Kay...

It's CONVICTION.

As for doubting her skills.. she may want to rethink that. I mean if your doctor starts to doubt his skills should he still be a doctor? I think not. Sounds like she is itching for another profession because MK just isn't doin it for her. No matter what you read if you have confidence in your skills NOTHING can make you doubt what you can do!

This woman, who probably is indeed a very nice woman, makes no sense what she mentions this "right way".

I wasn't in very long at all, but what I saw was that the real money was in higher positions that consultants. And those higher positions are dependent on commission checks from recruits.

If so much money could be made by simply selling, why would SDs make more money than IBCs? Why does this company put SDs on higher pedestals than IBCs?

Every perk of the company is dependent on monthly figures based on OTHER PEOPLE.

The Christian values with which I was raised included working hard and self-sufficiency, not getting other people to do your work. So what does God have to do with this company?

How would an SD, even the sweetest and kindest person in the world, be monetarily successful in this business by being selfless and not worrying about her damnable commission check?
