What Pink Truth Has Taught Us About Mary Kay

As I took some time to read old posts and comments about Mary Kay on Pink Truth, I realized that we have amassed an amazing amount of information in a relatively short time…

What has been documented is the truth, and it is disturbing. I know there are others around on the internet who insist we are lying, but again, what good does it do us to lie? There’s nothing in it for us except to tell our stories with the hope our experiences can help others. We know there are lurkers, reading as often as we do, we know because we lurked, too. We know the courage it takes to expose our own short-comings, denial and outright lies, we also know the fear that comes with hitting the enter key. And we do it anyway. We are not negative nellies or “losers” — we are whistle blowers. This is some of what we have learned and exposed:

A Mary Kay Sales Director and Some Misconstrued Scripture

Written by TRACY on . Posted in Religion & Spirituality

Written by Saw the Light

Pink Truth received an email from a sales director who quoted Scripture in an attempt to discredit the work that is being done here.

From: Mary Kay Sales Director
Date: Apr 9, 2007 4:58 PM
Subject: There's TRUTH in the Word

As a Sales Director I have never been disillusioned by the company or my mentors. What has consistently disappointed me is a handful of ungrateful Consultants with an overdeveloped sense of self-entitlement.

It is obvious that a great deal of time, energy, and emotion is spent maintaining this site. The bitterness that overflows from these pages and manifests itself into a website such as this is proof that the enemy is hard at work.

Acts 8:21-23 (New International Version)
21You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God. 22 Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. 23For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin."

For those that are still Consultants and/or Directors yet choose to perpetuate this website:

James 1:5-8 (New International Version)
5If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.

Although I'm sure that my comments will be met with the same tired & twisted responses as all the others, there's really no need, as I won't be checking back.

2 Corinthians 12:20 (New International Version)
For I am afraid that when I come I may not find you as I want you to be, and you may not find me as you want me to be. I fear that there may be quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, factions, slander, gossip, arrogance and disorder.

This website will only have a significant impact on those that thrive in this type of atmosphere.

Proverbs 24:8-9 (New Living Translation)
8 A person who plans evil will get a reputation as a troublemaker. 9 The schemes of a fool are sinful; everyone detests a mocker.

NSD Lisa Madson’s Husband on Seminar

Written by TRACY on . Posted in Mary Kay Seminar

Ah yes… another tale about how a life was changed just by going to seminar! Well, not really. If going to seminar was the “key” they claim it is, wouldn’t everyone at seminar be on the stage instead of sitting in the arena?

Seminar-1987
My First Trip to Dallas, Texas
Dan Madson (Husband of NSD Lisa Madson)

When Lisa began her career with Mary Kay in the fall of 1986, her Sales Director kept talking about this event called Seminar in Dallas, TX. She told Lisa that we both should go. I told Lisa we couldn’t afford it. Lisa’s Sales Director was persistent, however, and kept talking about how great Seminar was. I insisted that it was too expensive and that it wasn’t necessary. In the end, Lisa held a couple extra skin care classes and earned enough money for both of us to attend. Looking back, I now realize that attending Seminar in the summer of 1987 was the single most important decision that we made.

A Few Thoughts for Mary Kay Inc. Executives to Ponder

Dear Mary Kay Cosmetics,

I am writing on Pink Truth because I know you read it and I am not entirely sure you read letters sent to Dallas. Anecdotal evidence would indicate you do not. Please hear my heart on the following points:

1. Do you ever look at the numbers of “T” consultants coming back into the Company on the last day of the month? Any month? With as close to $200 w/s as one can get to it? And rarely is there a Section 2 order attached to these orders?

Mary Kay’s Inventory Charade Continues

What’s the Best way to make PinkTruth readers look like over exaggerating losers?

Print a public statement declaring your official policy concerning sales and ordering and make sure you LOOK like you are reasonable and cautious when it comes to heavy inventories! BRILLIANT MARY KAY! BRILLIANT!

Not that we thought we were up against any lightweights. No Siree! We know that Richard Rodgers is a cunning kind of guy who can anticipate any “next best step” required to head off the avalanche.

Suzy Q’s Last Dance

I was going to write an open letter to nsd’s and directors, and I know they read here, but it seemed to be a futile gesture. I wanted to ask them to think, to ask questions, and to look at the reality of Mary Kay. It ain’t gonna happen, so I will write to the Pink Truth readers instead.

For the newbies who don’t know me, I was a non-stellar director for many years, and found PT, read it and was horrified, could not tear myself away, was berated by my then sister directors for reading that awful-spawn-of-the-devil site, decided to do Mary Kay the “right way” (no recruiting unless someone had resources to burn… no frontloading… releasing product changes to my unit as soon as I knew about them…didn’t spend the money for Leadership or Career Conference…that kind of stuff) So, of course, the production dropped and the car copays started, the commissions went waaaaaaaaaaaay down, and by golly, I was not able to give myself a raise.

My unit died a slow death, the car went back and so did the rest of my inventory. And I was out. The night I was locked out of InTouch, it felt like I had been kicked in the stomach. I called another PT’er director, and cried so hard, I could hardly talk, and all she could do was make soothing noises. I recovered my sense of humor when the blue check arrived with the wonderful mythical Mary Kay math formula was applied.
In this entire process I learned a number of things, and here they are from the mundane to the profound:

  1. MK is the best selling brand to CONSULTANTS.
  2. There is no tracking of real sales.
  3. Most people cheat to make it into the courts.
  4. MK directors can use up to 4 separate credit cards to put in a single order.
  5. People DO NOT love MK’s product.s
  6. The products are not cutting edge.
  7. The spin at corporate puts experienced spiders to shame.
  8. Corporate does not have consultant’s best interest(s) in mind. It’s all about what works best for them.
  9. The bumps you get when you start using the product is NOT caused by pores cleaning themselves out. It’s a negative reaction to the product.
  10. TimeWise 3 in 1 Cleanser does not cleanse effectively.
  11. When sales are down, new products are introduced (Fragrance wands anyone?) They are limited edition and will sell out. They have been in the works for at least 1 ½ years. Really. I am not making this up.
  12. Even though the entire line is changing, directors will still sell the sizzle of BIG inventories for newbies. They will justify this behavior by saying to themselves and the newbies, that the products will be sold before they are discontinued.
  13. Directors generally (but not always) know what is coming down the pike. They are told not to tell the IBC’s because leaking this info might cause people to hold orders and there goes that monthly production.
  14. Many many directors order the last day of the month to boost their monthly production so they can earn a bonus or at least hit $4000.
  15. Standards and rules enforcement/contract enforcement is arbitrary at best, and malicious at worst.
  16. You matter to your director so long as you order. Otherwise you hear from her at the end of a particularly crappy month. Dialing for dollars.
  17. If you do not return your product, do not be surprised if sometime down the road you start receiving the Applause magazine again. You were reinstated to meet a goal. Sometimes you are asked about it first.
  18. Directors are scared. They are also disposable. Watch for qualifications to change. Here today, gone tomorrow. Buh bye.
  19. NSD’s are scared. They worked their people and their available credit to make it to the top, and there’s some serious excavation going on at the bottom. $5K/month is not executive income. Especially since the expenses are not factored in any time anywhere. Oops. It will take awhile for the really big areas to show the erosion, but, hey, we’ve got time. Watch and learn. Frankly, it’s more lucrative to stay a top director than to become a nsd. Pay attention to the nsd’s who have 8 or so directors in their downlines. And yes, we have up and down lines. “Families?” Not so much.
  20. Directors and the nsd’s who are fogged, really ARE fogged. They have so many deep deep layers of pink foof on them that they really honest to God, don’t realize what they are saying and doing. Don’t take it personally. Remember, you are not a person, this is a numbers game, ladies, and you are a number. And you obviously “don’t get it” so there you are.
  21. God does not hold Mary Kay in the palm of His hand, or at least not any more than He holds WalMart and Payless Shoe Stores, too
  22. The Secret is about making huge amounts of money for the authors
  23. Just for fun, check the Biblical passages and scriptures that are used by directors and nsd’s IN CONTEXT, it’s just amazing what leaving out a word or two can do
  24. The truth is NOT negative. It is the TRUTH. Since when is it a good idea for someone to limit the amount of information you choose to receive?
  25. And last but not least, Mary Kay is a multilevel marketing company. Period. Just like Arbonne, Amway, Pampered Chef, Tastefully Simple etc etc. Mary Kay is just not honest about it.
Do whatever you need to do to make this right FOR YOU! Come back to PT often, the truth is here, and the people who will help you are here. You aren’t stupid. We all believed the lies at one time. God will bless you richly in OR out of Mary Kay, and be nice to those in still the fog. We were all there at one time.

2008 Mary Kay Sales Director Suit

Written by TRACY on . Posted in Sales Directors

Well, no more being "dumb in plum" as a Mary Kay sales director. The director suits are going to be brown in 2008-2009. So since the company loves cute little taglines for the suits…. as the sales directors are accumulating credit card debt, they can be thinking that they're "going down in brown!"

I'm never fond of the sales director suits. But this one is worse than usual. Feast your eyes on these brown monstrosities that they're calling "Haute Chocolate." (And your punishment for not moving up to at least Senior director? You have to wear a hot pink shirt with your brown suit!!!)

You can click on any image to see it full size.

Deja Spew: This is Exactly Why You Need Mary Kay!

“That’s exactly why you need Mary Kay!”

You’re hearing that line because beauty consultants are being instructed to say “That’s exactly why you need Mary Kay!” when they’re faced with any objection that comes out of your mouth. They are considered by at least one NSD to be recruiting’s “magic words.”

Whether your answer is, “I don’t have the money,” “I don’t have the time,” or “I had two family members die in the recent Westroads Mall shooting tragedy, so I don’t have one shred of desire within me to sweet-talk women into what you do, as you’re uncompassionately doing to me right now,” a hardcore Mary Kay consultant will tell you, “But that’s exactly why you need Mary Kay!”

It’s that time again, people; a time for outrageous prizes and their equally outrageous price tags!  Whether you’re itching to mount a Dollar General-quality clock in the grand foyer or spend $2400 on a camping chair, you’re sure to find a treasure here that’ll both tickle your fancy and blow your budget into bite-sized pieces!

Same rules as before, friends; while I haven’t covered every single prize offered, I’ve listed each prize’s wholesale level (the amount of ordered inventory needed to acquire each), followed by the ACTUAL price of the item (based on Google searches that used the item’s brand and/or description).  If you’re good, you’ll get a website address so you can “go-give” yourself an early Christmas present!
