Another Family’s Finances Destroyed by Mary Kay

We have had a number of husbands of Mary Kay consultants and directors participate in the discussion here after being deceived by their wives. There has been financial damage, as well as emotional damage. Here is another.

My wife has been in Mary Kay for 4 years. In that time she has lost over $30,000. I had to remortgage the house to keep her from going bankrupt, but still she’s back at it. Her credit is going to max again in the next few months. This time I will lose the house. I have a good job, but she’s losing it faster than I can make it.

Every MK event I went to was the same, the few husbands that went were all safely muzzled. We all talked about things unrelated till our wives where out of earshot.

Then we’d ask the question, so how are things going for your wife? Then comes the pre-programmed response “she’s holding lots of classes” or “She’s on track for emerald” or “she’s really growing as a person.”

But in that brief moment of eye contact we all know we are liars, in that moment of truth we can all read between the lines. What we really said was “she’s not selling anything” or “she’s buying her way to the top” or “she’s warm stalking everyone we know or meet.”

After that we are pretty quiet, basking in the shared misery and shame of our lies and loss. We tend to not go very often. We collectively despise ourselves.

None of us are in the fog, but we are completely unable to help the one who sleeps beside us even see that there is a fog.

“This time I will lose the house. I have a good job, but she’s losing it faster than I can make it.”

This looks like an emergency that puts you physical safety at risk (where will you sleep if you lose the house? will you have a bedroom door to lock? will you even have a roof?).

I’ve seen some other guides for husbands that say don’t do something as drastic as freezing the finances first. OTOH, they weren’t talking about homelessness.

I was very interested in a recent crime, the husband killed his family, his wife was involved in an MLM. They had already had one bankruptcy, and were well on the way to losing their home. Her social media pages were all about how awesome her life was, travel, fun, friends, parties. The husband’s actions were a stark contrast to the upbeat, overwhelmingly positive social media posts.

I mentioned the MLM situation, and other MLM’s exclamed that this woman was in the “top tier” making at least $100,000 a year or more. Their finances don’t show that.

I wish more spouses would come forward with their stories.

Exactly. And people who are still drinking the MLM Koolaid, were stating that Sha’nann was bringing in over $50,000! Don’t think so. It looks like she was going to meetings, rallies, and he was paying for them, while being home taking care of the kids, working, and unable to pay the bills.

        MLM strikes again.

My wife and I are divorcing in the main cause it’s because of Mary Kay, she says she’s pulling her weight and paying a lot of things but behind the scenes I am paying all the taxes all the health insurance all the utilities all the car insurance expenses all the car expenses in general. And somehow she expect me to make more and more when she has no source of income except for Mary Kay. She’s already lost one Mary Kay car which was the start of our demise in our marriage. I have two beautiful kids and They think Mary Kay is the greatest thing on earth, the reality is it destroyed our family. I wish I could talk to every husband who is entertaining the idea of letting their wife or girlfriend do Mary Kay full-time. It will destroy your family from within, and once they start drinking the pink Kool-Aid as it’s called there’s no turning back

Infidelity has several variants. Financial infidelity is right up there in the top group.

I think I remember seeing this column before. I hope the husband was emotionally strong enough to say “no more” and file for divorce. When loving support gets abused, tough love is required.

You can’t save someone who doesn’t want to be saved. But you can save yourself. And maybe the shock of losing her money fountain will wake her up.

Wtf. While MLM companies are awful, that poor women and her sweet daughters were not murdered because of it. They were murdered because Chris Watts was a cheating narcissistic sociopath.

No one said she was murdered because of MLM. They rightfully pointed out that the family had financial troubles and it is likely that MLM contributed to those troubles. What we often see is a social media life that doesn’t resemble real life when one is involved in MLM. In this case, we saw affluence, when the reality was financial struggles. All fair observations.
