Scripts for Potential Car Drivers

It pays big to have “Mary Kay cars” on the road. It costs Mary Kay Inc. NOTHING (because consultants and directors pay for their own cars via the inventory orders they place), and is essentially free advertising for the company. Not only that, Mary Kay knows that the cars make people think the drivers are successful. If they got a “free” Mary Kay car, they must be making lots of money. The cars silently convince the masses that there is success (where none really exists).

In fact, the earnings of nearly all of the pink Cadillac drivers are anything but “executive.” But the general public doesn’t know that, and they think that the pink Cadillac signifies a high income earner, which is exactly what Mary Kay Inc. wants.

Mary Kay Inc. doesn’t want a director to take the available cash compensation option, because no one can see that but her. The company wants her to take the car because it advertises for the company, and it is fully paid for either via the team/unit production, or with the copay. The bottom line is that if your people don’t order enough to “pay” for your car, you have to pony up the money with a copay.

A common argument I hear is that in ANY company, you have to continue to qualify for benefits such as a company car. Here is the difference: Mary Kay puts people in these cars knowing that they have little chance of maintaining the requirements to remain “free.” The company knows that you will either be paying the copay each month, or you will be conning people into ordering products they can’t sell, just so you can meet the requirements. Either way, the company wins, and the consultants lose.

In the spirit of pushing consultants toward those cars (and having Mary Kay get more recruits and more unnecessary inventory orders), Mary Kay Cosmetics has scripts to be used to encourage consultants toward the car, using the “DISC” personality types.

Are they manipulating? You decide.

Dominance: Wouldn’t it feel great to drive around town in that vibrant red Pontiac Vibe? I believe the key is consistency. Commit to a plan of action to build your team right now. I know without a doubt that you can do it!

Influence: Imagine how great you’ll feel arriving at our unit meeting in that red trophy, the Pontiac Vibe! I can’t wait to go with you to the dealership to pick up the car! And once you’re driving red, all your team members are going to want to follow your lead.

Steadiness: What is (child’s name) going to think when you drop (him/her) off in a new red Vibe? He/she will feel so special coming to school in a brand new car, and he/she will be so incredibly proud of you!

Conscientiousness: You’ve accomplished what it takes for on-target for Grand Achiever status! Congratulations! But I know you’re not stopping when your goal is in sight. The most important thing for you to do now is fill your date book with appointments and watch for that special person at each one. If you talk to at least five new people every day about the Mary Kay opportunity, I know your dream of driving that car can become a reality!

These scripts are just meant to encourage with the use of good sales tactics, right? Well, everything in Mary Kay is geared toward manipulation for the benefit of corporate and your upline.

    Longtime reader here, and this just occurred to me to ask: is the cash compensation a one-time bonus? Not a monthly bonus instead of the use of a car?

    Because while $500 is a nice chunk of money, it wouldn’t go far in my monthly household budget. It seems like a paltry bonus for all the work you have to do to earn it.

    In my unit my SD sabotaged her first director at least once. They rarely had meetings together because of that. Each of them though had their own way of promoting this risky mlm. While I was in MK we had two women trying to become a red jacket. The first tried and failed but finally made it thanks to my recruiter and myself. My SD was happy to take back the few recruits she lost first time round. The second potential red jacket also failed first time round. It seemed to be the norm with our SD. She made it to Red Jacket and was working on Director when I left. Twenty plus years later my SD is still an SD. Also this idea that the cars belong to the unit is absurd. My SD did use the pink car to manipulate us into buying more. Of course she had her favorite IBC’s who occasionally shared a ride with her. It all reminds me of a slick snake oil sales man or todays cyber scams. Scripts to manipulate and guilt women into staying or buying.

    I’ll go so far as to say that MK Corporate actually makes a profit on car leases.

    I’ve seen the comparisons between MK car program co-pays and what the lease would cost if you went to the local dealer and got the lease yourself.

    Plus, if you have a MK car lease it comes bundled their overpriced insurance (another cash cow for MK Corporate). You can’t reduce that by getting your own insurance with State Farm, or Allstate, or Progressive.

    Those scripts give the word “creepy” a bad name. Find their vulnerabilities and exploit them every way possible. Every gesture, every pose, every inflection is calculated to bend the other person to your will.

    Now, if a man pulls those shenanigans trying to pick up a woman, we call that creepy, and rightly so. And when I watch NSD training videos, I get the same vibe, except that it’s a woman working on another woman, delicately touching her arm, telling her how “sharp” she looks, inching a little closer into her personal space…ugh. I can’t even watch those things all the way through.

    Creepy is creepy, whether it’s a man trying to get into a woman’s pants, or a woman trying to get into another woman’s wallet. And it ain’t right.

    And that’s why other MLMs like Arbonne and Monat have car programs. It benefits the company.
    _ Free advertising for the company
    – The distributors show off the cars, pretending they are successful so they can recruit more victims
    – It’s the distributors who pay for their “free” car many times over.

    But it’s not a scam.

    There’s absolutely nothing wrong with driving a low-end vehicle, but to brainwash someone into thinking that their child would be “incredibly proud” of a Pontiac Vibe is hilarious.

    It angers me that, if indeed the downline does think the Vibe is so special, the scammers are taking advantage of them and the little money they clearly only have. Probably taking little Johnny’s lunch money pushing orders to help her qualify for the Vibe. Sick, sick, sick.

    None of the cars on there can compare to my car now and the fact I don’t have to guess how little or much I’ll have to pay for it over the next 3 months. So stressful!

    This has little to do with this specific post, but I wanted to celebrate with people who understand that “my” career car was towed away yesterday! The tow truck driver was confused as to why I was so excited lol
