Almost no one gets to the status of national sales director in Mary Kay. No matter how hard a director works, her chances of gathering the number of women needed to get to national are extremely low. It’s a system designed for women to fail.
As with most of the “advice” in Mary Kay, this piece is thin on substance. It essentially says that you can get to NSD by asking enough women to join you in MK. Make them feel special. It feels manipulative. And there is nothing here that will actually help you advance in Mary Kay.
Everyone who becomes a National Sales Director had to start at the beginning, right where you are now. A lot of the success you will have comes from gathering team members, and inspiring others to follow YOU!
Here are some words that will help you!
“I have decided to go to the TOP of this company, and I will be promoting 10 women into management. I want to take you with me. There are two tracks in Mary Kay. One is the Selling Track, which I am sure you are familiar. But we also have the Leadership Track, for Directors. That is where I see you. You would be a great Director. Somehow I just don’t think that the Selling Track is enough to hold your interest, or am I wrong?….:
“Great, let’s get you a kit. Do you want it shipped to your house or to work?”
“Great, let’s get you a kit. Do you want to pay for it with a check or creditcard?”
These are my very favorite closes, because it ASSUMES the close, instead of saying, “Is there any reason why we can’t send in your agreement today?” ( “yes, major fear!)
If you ask enough people, you will have all the team members you need. But what’s more, with the above technique, you will have people who will be selling and recruiting because they want to be Directors too. That is how you build a strong group!
Ask God to bless your business, and He will. He will put the right people in your path.
Wait, this script pretends there’s a selling track?? What a bald-faced lie!
Selling isn’t a track in Mary Kay; it’s a spot. There is nowhere to go if all you do is buy and (try to) sell product. You’ll never wear a red jacket, or drive a car, or go on a trip. You’ll always be served the crappiest food at Seminar, and sit in the nosebleed seats to applaud everyone else until your hands fall off. No matter how much you sell, you’ll always pay the same “wholesale” price; there’s no such thing as a volume discount.
Pretend there’s a selling track, but steer them all toward “leadership,” which sets them on the endless-chain recruiting hamster wheel.
What a racket.
My friend that recruited me was sure she would be a NSD in 4 years. She had no doubt. It was written in stone and she even changed her Instagram name to her national name. She got and lost her 1st offspring all in one year and has had 2 others in DIQ. It’s been just over 5 years since she became a director and she is still “just” a director (still with her national name as her IG handle). I think that is sad, but what I *really* think is sad is the ladies that have dedicated their lives to MK and the dream of being a NSD (with retirement!!) and after 30+ years are still “just” a director.
What a sham.
Your friend has the exact same story of almost every single MK director. It’s sad.
Unless they have a Mother that retires and leaves them all set.
Mary Kay was unable to pay the commission checks this morning due to an unavailability of their funds. They were supposed to fix this by this afternoon. I am not a rep (sorry “consultant”) but I receive their emails.

Most hilarious thing ever. Are you able to do a screenshot of the email for me?
Tracy,
Please let me know where to send the screenshot of today’s Mary Kay email.

Costco-sized popcorn is on order for curbside pickup!
Are the kernels Costo-sized, or just the bag? Because I don’t think I could choke down a Costco-sized kernel.
I am on the edge of my seat waiting for an update.
OMG
Oh I can’t wait to hear how they spin this. ?
Wow. How sad for all those women not to get their commission after all their hard work. But, they are going to “fix this problem. ” I smell something stinky…
MK couldn’t pay out commission checks?! Insufficient funds for all those “executive incomes”? Please continue.
“I will be promoting 10 women into management.”
No you won’t. Because you don’t own a company. And aren’t they supposed to own THEIR own company and be their own boss, not your “management”? ?
Laughable. ?
Even Minitrue would be impressed by the way the facts are distorted.
Right? If it’s really your own business, wouldn’t you be the CEO?
How can anyone really take this company seriously?

It is delusional to think that being a consultant is getting to the top of the company and into management. Here’s an actual list of the top people with Mary Kay:
[MK link]us/about-mary-kay/our-founder/executive-bios (Note that the CEO and President of North America are both MEN! I guess women aren’t good enough for the very top positions – even in a company that supposedly empowers women?)
All these people receive salary and benefits. They didn’t pay for that privilege via “check or credit card”. Rotfl
Does anyone have an update on the status of the commission checks?
