Facts, opinions, and the real story behind Mary Kay Cosmetics.

You Are Angry and Bitter

A visitor to Pink Truth, who failed at Mary Kay twice, says we are all just angry and bitter. Mary Kay is actually wonderful, and we are apparently stopping women from experience all of its wonderfulness. (No, dear reader, I am NOT a personal use consultant. I do not support Mary Kay in any way. Its products are horrible, its practices are even worse, and I would die before giving one red cent to the company or promoting any participation in it.)

Hi Tracy, I found your blog a few days ago when trying to look up some info about MK for a couple of friends. It would surprise me if you share my thoughts but I hope you will. I watch Fox News because vs. CNN or MSNBC because I like to hear different sides. There are always 2 sides (or many more) to every story. From the posts I read it sounds as if you are angry and bitter about MK. As a reader I wonder why you are a personal use consultant. Why would you support a company you so strongly detest? Here is my story…

In 1996 I signed my agreement. My background is full time ministry. I wanted the opportunity to stay at home with my new born. I became a car driver and director within a year. With MK I never had to use day care once! This was an answer to prayer for me. My husband was transferred and we moved in 2000.

In 2000 I resigned because we were in a new town and I had a 2nd baby. I did not have a beef with MK at all, I did not want to work at all. I was not a personal use consultant and gave all of my customers to friends in MK.

In 2002 I became a consultant for the 2nd time. My motivation was my husbands decision to go into full time ministry. His new employment status changed our income. My desire was to send my children to a private school. I did this with MK. I also became a car driver and director in 2003 for the 2nd time. I also paid our home mortgage.

In 2006 I resigned because my family and I moved to NYC for church planting. This was a huge change for our family. Once again I gave all of my customers away to friends.

MK was a great experience for my family and I for many reasons. I don’t think I will list all of the reasons because from your blog posts I doubt you would believe me anyway since you indicate so many in MK are liars.

I could not find your last name or any personal info anywhere. Maybe I overlooked it. I am sharing all of my personal contact info so you and your readers can see I am a real person.

MK has no doubt helped many people. My family and friends can testify to this. I am puzzled at the amount of time you post negatives about the company. Most companies in America would not allow you to be affiliated with them after contributing to a blog like this.

I find it disappointing anytime a person invests so much effort in blasting others. Personally I don’t get it. It makes you appear to have deep rooted anger and bitterness about many things in your life.

Think about this…if a pastor makes a mistake, steps down for some type of sin, should the people in the church stop attending church?
A doctor messes up, do we stop going to doctors?
Election votes a rigged. Do we stop voting?
Have you ever had a bad restaurant experience? Did you quit eating out?
I have had many friends who felt they wanted to go into full time ministry but after doing it decided to resign.

Just because something doesn’t work for you, for whatever reason, it doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be great for another person.

I’ll close with this verse…”There are six things God hates…no, seven he detests, ….. people who spread their strife among others. A troublemaker plants seeds of strife. Wrongdoers eagerly listen to gossip and play close attention to slander. A truthful witness saves lives, but a false witness is a traitor. The heart of the godly thinks carefully before speaking; the mouth of the wicked overflows with evil words. Mockers hate to be corrected, so they stay away from the wise. A wise person is hungry for knowledge, while the fool feeds on trash. It is foolish to belittle another, a sensible person keeps quiet. A fool is quick tempered, but a wise person stays calm when insulted.”

Tracy, I am so thankful I did not read your blog before working with MK. Though I am not involved with MK now, I feel sorry for anyone looking for a job who stumbles upon your blog.

Today I prayed for you, that you would seek your peace from the Lord.

I am thankful for every woman who “stumbles” on this blog, as this blog gives her a chance to hear the REAL story about Mary Kay… the one no recruiter will ever tell her. You, dear reader, were part of the problem. You deceived women, and you continue to do so. With more than 99% of participants losing money in MLM, I guarantee that there are far more women who regret their experience than who cherish it.

Interesting . . . why resign to move? MK touts that anyone, anywhere can sell MK. Why give up a “lucrative” directorship? Without being judgmental, perhaps the non-consultant needs to find a confessional within her spiritual environment and take a hard and deep look at what her involvement in MK really produced? If she did indeed make enough money to send her children to private school, some family somewhere was struggling to make ends meet from the over-purchase of useless products by this director.

Dear Reader, please provide evidence such as a Schedule C, showing your income which you implied was sufficient to pay your mortgage. No rush, we’ll be right here waiting. As for your comparisons about how something might be right for one person but not another, thank you for stopping before you arrived at:
“Just because someone jumps off a cliff and dies doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t try it”

Meanwhile PT friends, at least the reader didn’t try to claim too vociferoulsy that she made money. And she refrained from using all the tired cliches – “gun to your head” etc….

While I think her analogies are ridiculous, I’m still going to address them, just in case she’s reading responses to her post.

If the pastor commits some sin that results in him having to step down, I will likely stay at the church and observe how it handles itself and the aftermath. Then I decide whether to stay or find another church.

If a doctor messes up, I consider whether it was on honest mistake. If it was and the doctor was apologetic and worked to make things right, I would (and have) give them another chance. If the doctor’s act was deliberate, s/he refused to apologize, blamed me, or refused to listen to me, I would find a new doctor, tell my story on review sites, and tell friends and family to stay away from that doctor.

If I have a bad experience at a restaurant, I avoid that restaurant in the future. I don’t stop eating out.

I’m not commenting on her election rigging statement because this isn’t a board for political commentary.

Bottom line, even though I’m more of a tree person than a forest person, I try to look at enough trees to understand my surroundings. All of the pink trees appear to me to add up to bad news.

I came here to say the same thing.

If a pastor makes a mistake and steps down, there are often larger issues with spiritual abuse in that church. There is also spiritual abuse in MK. I suspect that this director is very adept at it.

If a doctor messes up, they may be sued for malpractice or lose their license to practice. Elections are overseen by election boards, and results can be audited. Restaurants are inspected by the health department and are reviewed by their patrons. There is oversight and accountability. Where is that in MK? Has this director been held accountable for deceptive recruiting practices and inventory frontloading?

If I don’t like my church, or my doctor, or a political candidate, or a restaurant, or a job, I don’t quit going to church, seeking medical care, voting, eating in restaurants, or working. But the same argument doesn’t apply to MK. You’re either scamming or being scammed. There’s no legitimate path to running a profitable MK business.

I find it amusing-she thinks Tracy is still in Mary Kay.

“A wise person is hungry for knowledge, while the fool feeds on trash.” Yes, dear. It appears you fed on trash for years in Mary Kay by gobbling up their nonsense and then force feeding it to others. Congrats. Now if you want to be wise (hungry for knowledge), educate yourself about Mary Kay.

“It is foolish to belittle another, a sensible person keeps quiet.” That is what Mary Kay would like everyone to do. Keep very, very quiet. And no, it’s not because they are hunting wabbits.

    Yikes…

    I won’t touch the Fox News/election rigging thing…

But to disparage daycare is gross. Not everyone is as privileged as you, ma’am. Some women must rely on daycare and there is absolutely no shame in that whatsoever.

She “stumbled” upon this blog, but can’t find Tracy’s info? Really? Lady, did you even LOOK? Why invent the line about Tracy being in MK as a personal use consultant? You said so yourself that it doesn’t make any sense, so why assume that nonsense is true?

    This lady… just… yikes.

    1. MultiLevelMoneyLosing

I read that like… ok but did you make any money? Because you can just stay home and not use daycare, too!
Surely if she had earned a car or something she’d have let us know…

“Why invent the line about Tracy being in MK as a personal use consultant?”

Ten will get you twenty she read that tidbit of misinformation somewhere else. Probably in the context of: “Don’t listen to that hater Tracy over at Pink Truth, etc.”

Hence the stumbling onto this site.

I hope she didn’t stub her toe.

And, a good daycare or pre-school is very beneficial for the child IMO. Friends, structure, stimulation, rules, sharing and play with others is healthy. My kids went, they loved it, and so did I.

  5. Dallas Boo

I can only imagine how she manipulated fellow church members to join her in MK as if they are doing “God’s work”.

There needs to be a requirement for these ladies to submit their schedule C and evidence of their amazing MK income along with these ridiculous emails. While they are praying for your bitter soul, can they at grab some solid financial statements and back up their claims with actual proof?

I could not find your last name or any personal info anywhere.

    Oh for F— Sake.
You know what? When Mary Kay don’t work out for you again / whatever you do next do not get in to the research field or private investigator field because you are terrible.
I am not going to say Tracy’s full name but I will say this lady has been on national tv umpteen hundred times and introduced by her full name. Her name is in magazines that talk about MK.
I swear someone is just messing with you T.
I refuse to believe someone is this dumb.

“I could not find your last name or any personal info anywhere.” —

You’re not a very good fact finder, are you? And, since Tracy was kind enough not to mention yours, I’ll take a guess: Serena Joy Waterford from Gilead? I mean, all the indicators are there.

As a former Director, I can tell you that a unit will still produce if their Director moves. So, not buying what she’s saying. If they’re truly selling and “the product sells itself”, they don’t need to be within her space. I’m fact, some of my biggest sellers were out of state.

So, her story isn’t as she tells it. A successful business with a consumable product doesn’t require physical contact with its leader. And, a base production unit would bring her $1,000 gross commissions before taxes and expenses were deducted, so I just cannot believe she paid their mortgage with that income. Nothing adds up with her whole story.

    Dear Mrs Preacherman

“From the posts I read it sounds as if you are angry and bitter about MK.”

Being angry and bitter are normal feelings not some kind of moral failings. Please don’t police other women’s emotions.

“if a pastor makes a mistake, steps down for some type of sin, should the people in the church stop attending church?”
Depends on the sin and the culture of my place of worship. If it was covered up repeatedly, the yes I would leave and find a place of worship more suitable to my morals.

“A doctor messes up, do we stop going to doctors?”
If it was a serious mistake, yes I would find another doctor if I could.

“Have you ever had a bad restaurant experience? Did you quit eating out?”
Again, in general no but I would not return if the restaurant did not improve.

I am at a loss to understand what these analogies have to do with Mary Kay however. Or any MLM company.

“I find it disappointing anytime a person invests so much effort in blasting others. Personally I don’t get it. It makes you appear to have deep rooted anger and bitterness about many things in your life.”

I don’t understand why you want us to sit down and “Keep Sweet” either. Women, like men, are allowed a whole range of emotions and random internet commentators don’t get to police them.
It seems to me that your feelings are hurt by other women’s equally valid experiences. Perhaps you should search your thoughts as to why you are unable to understand that other people have different outlooks depending on their past.
Since I don’t know you, I can’t say if your personal involvement with MK is true or not. But the people who write here, female and male, are sharing their own hard earned knowledge of how MK and other MLMs are not the benign entities they portray themselves as.

In conclusion, please do not pray for me. My spiritual health is in no danger.

These “fan letters” make me giggle and roll my eyes every time. It’s the same argument over and over again, and Pink Truth hater/denier, we know so much more than you. Please take your unfounded arguments and go away.

  11. LaurenV

I remember being 16, working in a retail store and this random woman approached me about buying some MK products. I agreed I would try the face mask and she became belligerent and stated I had to buy the entire kit she was selling or no deal. I just walked away without another word.

“I find it disappointing anytime a person invests so much effort in blasting others. Personally I don’t get it. It makes you appear to have deep rooted anger and bitterness about many things in your life.”

Well, I find it disappointing anytime a person invests the effort into blasting Pink Truth (ie like taking the time to send an email to us). Personally I don’t get it, considering Pink Truth LITERALLY SPELLS OUT FOR YOU how the numbers and other claims those in MK make are NOT factual. It makes you appear to have deep rooted anger and bitterness about the things you’ve seen here on PT, EVEN IN THE FACE OF PROOF.

What problems specifically do you have with the numbers that PT provides, THAT ARE DIRECTLY FROM MARY KAY’S “APPLAUSE” PUBLICATION, that show how few directors are making more than minimum wage? Or how many, MANY directors claim to have sold x amount at retail (hello, whatever Unit Club) when those directors’ OWN claims prove that to be impossible (hayyy guys it’s Princess Chelss here with your twice-daily BOGO sale COME AND GET IT)? These are just two of HUNDREDS of examples. And those two alone can account for many of the lies (from income claims to retail sales claims) made by directors all throughout MK.

You seem to have bitterness and a vendetta towards the one place that offers verifiable proof about the claims made by thousands of MK folks. I suppose we should pray that you learn to have less hate in your heart.
