Same Play, Different Audience

Why do we keep doing what we do at Pink Truth? This page explains why Pink Truth exists in the first place, but I wanted everyone to know a little more about why it’s important for me (and so many others) to continue to discuss Mary Kay day after day.

There are diehard Kaybots who will never believe what we have to say. There are other Kaybots who don’t want to believe it, but probably will sometime soon. There are still other Kaybots who know that our stories ring true, but are fighting it. And there are those who are ready to come out of the fog and into the light.

Here’s what some Kaybots will never understand: We don’t do “this” (Pink Truth) for us. We aren’t here to relive our MK stories daily for our own satisfaction.

We are doing this for all the women who need this information and won’t get it anywhere else. We support them and love them and tell them our stories so they understand they’re not alone.

And we keep doing this week after week, month after month, and year after year because each day Mary Kay creates new victims. With thousands of women STILL being recruited each month in the U.S., you know that there are many who need this information and need our support.

And for that very reason, I will not stop. Do you think maybe I’m a little tired of explaining things about returning inventory? Yes, I’ve been at it for years now, so it’s old to me. But it’s NEW TO THEM. I never knew how many consultants have no idea that they can get their money back!

And it’s not just that issue. There are many others. I’ve discussed them to death. But this isn’t about me. This is about the women who are seeing this stuff for the very first time.

I do it for them.

  1. “…because each day Mary Kay creates new victims.”

Mary Kay Corp is well aware that over 99% of the women who sign up with Mary Kay will spend more than they will make. MKC’s internal systems track every order and every bonus/commission check for every member of the sales force. It would be trivial to run a regular report to show who is actually making net positive income (<1%) from Mary Kay, and who is losing money (>99%) to Mary Kay.

But such a report would be devastating to the company if it fell into the wrong hands. Sad, because in a real business, this report would be a huge help to the sales team.

As it is, Mary Kay Corp is likely getting the majority of its profit from the over-ordering that is encouraged by the upline. Such a report would make this obvious, which is why few if any will ever see this type of report. This report would also show how many in the downline need to lose money before someone in the upline turns a profit.

I echo SuzyQ’s sentiment. My primary reason for participating in discussions on this site is to help shine a light on the hidden dangers of involvement in MLMs like Mary Kay. Best to avoid them in the first place, but hopefully our efforts help those already in to understand why this is not the opportunity they’ve been sold on…not even close.

    • Well said, SuzyQ and DJ.

Seconded. When I found this site I had no idea A) that Mary Kay was even still a thing (hadn’t heard anything about it since the 80s) and more importantly, B) how horrible and exploitative it and other MLM companies are. I don’t have firsthand experience with MK, but I figure the more people appealing to the common sense and instincts of the people who just need a little encouragement to turn away the better.

Plus skewering the ridonkulous stuff MK comes up with is great fun 😉

  2. …and in all these years, there has yet to be one documented instance of a PT Critic providing actual evidence to the contrary of what PT espouses. Feelings rather than facts seems to be the PT Critics main driver.

    • I’ve had several run-ins on r/antiMLM and YouTube creator comments with Kaybots bleating that we don’t tell the “Truth” tm. I’ve asked them to go to the latest front page and pick out one fact and refute it. So far.. crickets🦗🦗🦗.

Also as an FYI to the Kaybots, most large, multi-national companies also have websites dedicated to expressing the negative and downsides of working for them. Pink Truth isn’t an anomaly. It’s a reflection of late stage capitalism.

  4. I’d love to learn your story. The history of Pink Truth. I think I first heard of it back in 2010?

    • If Pink Truth were to cease as the entries faded in age, knots would be telling their victims that MK “fixed all that” even though they never will.

  5. When I found Pink Truth (Mary Kay Sucks back then), I had been out for a few years. I had a “let down” feeling about my years in this side hustle. However, I thought 💭 I had made money and said so! Boy, was I smacked back with truth. At first I was indignant. But then as I went point by point by what I was confronted with, I realized that my tax returns over the years said it all. Eventually, I broke even but never made a significant profit. I swallowed the whole lie about good debt and my schedule C being upside down showing that I was really good at finding deductions. Once my eyes were opened, I too became a regular here wanting to support others who were lied to just like me. Thank you, Tracy, and others who spoke truth to me.
