Our friends over at the Let’s Talk Pink Facebook group for Mary Kay consultants are upset that their group members send screenshots of interesting conversations to Pink Truth. Ginger Gutting is particularly bothered.

Imagine being “in and out of Mary Kay” for the last 40 years!!!  At some point don’t you get a hint about what a loser “business” this is?

Also, Ginger… facts and opinions are not defamation. You are welcome to point out any instance of me lying about Mary Kay. You won’t find it.

The administrator of the Let’s Talk Pink group, Heather Godshalk Triplett, wants people to be careful with what they say, since we might publish comments. (Thanks for linking to us, Heather!)

I wonder what Kay Borrero despises about our site? That we have been making information more accessible to recruits and consultants for almost 20 years? If recruiters and the company won’t tell the truth about this scam, we will!

Oh, Angela Swanson. Thank you for your concern. You’re right that we have a right to be critical of the company and the entire business model is flawed in a way that guarantees almost everyone will lose money.

You don’t have to worry about the time commitment that I have to Pink Truth. It doesn’t take a lot to keep a website going, and it’s a fun little hobby. And I don’t have to put moles in Facebook groups. The moles find themselves! Yes…. your little friends who are chatting with you in the FB groups are the ones sending me screenshots of the real truth. 🙂

Where you’re also wrong: I don’t have a chip on my shoulder. I just happen to dislike lying and scams. Almost 20 years ago, I started a website to help provide information to the public that would finally tell them the truth about this “opportunity.” Since recruiters won’t tell the full truth, someone else had to.

You mention how “being a consultant was never really in the cards for you” as if this is some sort of privilege or coveted position? If you’re a consultant, you’re almost certainly losing money. I don’t aspire to lose money. I’d rather run the real business that I’ve run for the last 25 years, making a wonderful income, and providing services to customers with integrity. This is so much easier and more fun that trying to recruit women into a scam and lying to them about the money and the fake opportunity.

Mary Kay ladies, YOU are the problem.

  1. If some complains about my employer, I usually just ignore it. Or make placating noises as I listen sympathetically. Sometimes it’s a legit gripe and I can tell them how to get it resolved, or something they don’t understand and I can help them get an answer. Sometimes, I actually agree with them.

That’s because my employer (BTW a real one that pays me for showing up and doing my job) is just that. My identity is not my job. They don’t tell me how to do my job, what to think, how to dress, what I’m allowed to say about it.

There is no organization in the world that is universally loved, be it a company, a charity, a church, a school. The same goes for people. Hell, Fred Rogers had haters.

If you’re so far into the bubble that you get offended by someone dissing your MLM, it’s time to step waaaaay back and regain some clarity.
