Mary Kay ladies never pass up an opportunity to make up fake statistics. This one came from a Facebook thread on which the original poster was asking for strategies to do an “individual close” with each person who attends a Mary Kay party. (This individual close is where you take each person alone and twist their arm to buy products and probably also do an interview to sign up as a consultant.)

Diane Kuciel is a MK sales director who just made up numbers about the rate of sales and customer loyalty. Anyone who has ever sold Mary Kay knows that her stat that 4 out of 5 people who try MK will purchase is an outright lie. I’m sorry, but if you hold a bunch of MK parties (where they’re all trying the products), you’ll see that 80% do not purchase. (And the number who make a pity purchase of one tiny item is significant.)

Then she says that 4 out of 5 who purchase MK will use it for the rest of their lives. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! If only! 80% of purchasers do not continue with MK for life.

Why do they make these things up?
