Don’t Run Your Mouth About Mary Kay

Someone who calls herself Norma Hawkins left this as a comment on a post at Pink Truth. It’s a shame that Norma doesn’t know Mary Kay isn’t a Job. You don’t own anything. So if Norma thinks she’s telling people the truth when she is trying to recruit them, she has already failed.

Before you run your mouth and say things you really know nothing about check your facts.

MARY KAY is a business model studied by Havard Business College and many other entities and has been proven over and over again NOT TO BE A PYRAMID. It has multiple levels to build your business and your income.

So here is my story. I have a business with Mary Kay, I follow the steps of finding leads, booking appointments, coaching Hostess so Appointment holds, teach hostess and her guest, if any, how to care for their skin with products customized for their skincare care needs and concerns, I offer purchase options, give an invitation to consider doing what I do (no pressure) and invite her back to teach basics of glamour or other spa like experiences.

I earn money by selling product with a 50% discount. So if I sell $110.00 I make $55.00.

I have never recruited anyone with pressure, I give them the truth of how business works with an emphasis on WORK. Because it is a JOB, a business we own and it requires a commitment of time, planning education, and the knowledge that you are in business for yourself BUT NEVER BY YOURSELF.

Please just don’t hate on something you deep down think you would like to do, or maybe have done without the necessary commitment to your success.

    🤨

Norma, if that is your real name, if you sell product at a 50% DISCOUNT, that means you’re selling it at wholesale, i.e. what you paid for it. And given the incidental costs of running your “business ” you’re losing money.

If you’re trying to claim that you’re selling everything at full retail prices (actually, to be twice the wholesale price that would be a 100% markup, not 50%) I won’t believe you because even the top directors can’t make a sale without offering deep discounts and freebies.

Gosh! I hope Ms. Norma has provable facts to back up her claims.🙏

MARY KAY is a business model studied by Havard (sic) Business College and many other entities and has been proven over and over again NOT TO BE A PYRAMID.

First fact wrong. What was studied was how cheap trinkets motivate sales staff.

It has multiple levels to build your business and your income.

Second fact wrong. If you need multiple levels to build your business, it is indeed a pyramid scheme

    So here is my story.

Which I am sure is totally unlike one we have seen before. 🤦‍♀️

I have a business with Mary Kay,

Fact three wrong. You do not have a MK business.

I follow the steps of finding leads, booking appointments, coaching Hostess so Appointment holds, teach hostess and her guest, if any, how to care for their skin with products customized for their skincare care needs and concerns,

Ok, so you cajole, nag or beg women to hold parties. But what skills do you have outside of your limited training to ensure you have recommended the correct products?

I offer purchase options, give an invitation to consider doing what I do (no pressure) and invite her back to teach basics of glamour or other spa like experiences.

I would imagine there is lots of pressure involved with your so-called invitation. After all, you need those multiple levels to build your business.

I earn money by selling product with a 50% discount. So if I sell $110.00 I make $55.00.

Fact four wrong. If you sell for $110 and make $55, that’s gross profit. After taxes, delivery, phone and other bills, you net profit is significantly lower.
Also you are competing against the likes of Priceless Chels who frequently offer 40-60% or BOGO discounts.

I have never recruited anyone with pressure,

I guess I have to bee-LIE-ve you on that. But I know from what other directors have written that “recruit, recruit, recruit” is the way to fill those vital lower levels of your pyramid business.

I give them the truth of how business works with an emphasis on WORK.

Except in order for (general) your business to succeed, you need a down-line from which your commissions flow upwards. Without working on building a downline , without recruiting an endless stream of women propping up your pyramid business you don’t make money.

Because it is a JOB, a business we own and it requires a commitment of time, planning education, and the knowledge that you are in business for yourself BUT NEVER BY YOURSELF.

Ma’am, Ms. Norma, hun, you keep describing a pyramid scheme so accurately and yet still are either unaware of the meaning or totally in denial of the truth.

Please just don’t hate on something you deep down think you would like to do, or maybe have done without the necessary commitment to your success.

No, I will keep on hating businesses like Mary Kay Wagner Rogers Eckman Weaver Louis Miller Hallenbeck Ash’s one. It is not the type of fauxpotunity I would venture into.

If you have actually read many of the stories written by those who were in Mark Kay, you would soon see that they were successful in terms of Mary Kay Wagner Rogers Eckman Weaver Louis Miller Hallenbeck Ash. They were career car directors. They did not give up after a week of of doing nothing.

  3. “Because it is a JOB, a business we own” It is NOT a business. Read your contract. Ask Australian Mary Kay “business owners”. You can be put out of business at any time, for no reason, and have no recourse.

  4. “I give them the truth of how business works…”

Really? Do you tell them that every Mary Kay downline loses money as a whole? And that Mary Kay Corp’s profits come from consultant purchases, not from retail sales?

Do you tell them they won’t individually turn a true business profit without aggregate losses in their own downline? Do you share how no one who is making postive cash flow in Mary Kay is doing it through retailing?

Do you tell them that Mary Kay sees their own sales force as “customers” and not business owners? Do you tell them that no one buys MLM products from strangers, and thus their only hope for retail sales comes from family and friends? And even they only buy out of pity, and are unlikely to become recurring customers?

Do you tell them that folks outside of MLM will not see them as a business owner, but rather as a pawn in a recruiting scheme? And that their friends will actually be sad for them that they fell for an MLM Pitch, and will look forward to them getting out?

If you are not sharing these things, you are not sharing the truth about how this “business” works.

  5. “Don’t hate on something you know deep down you would like to do”

LOL. As much as I love makeup and nails, I’ve already done time as a professional nail tech over a decade ago and it wasn’t the life for me. That was enough experience for me to know that I don’t want to be in the beauty business (or be a 1099 employee) ever again.

I actually enjoy my job and it provides me with steady income, good health insurance and a pension. We all know Mary Kay will never offer such benefits to their salesforce AKA best paying customers.

  6. *yawn*

Another Friday, another self-righteous, know-it-all critic.

Please refer to Monday’s article with further questions about my work ethic, commitment to my “business” while I was working it, and Jan Thetford’s $75,000 secret debt load as a Cadillac director.

  7. The minute you recruited your first team member your “ business” became a pyramid. You do not own a business or even a franchise. If you did, you would be hiring employees, paying employee taxes, wages and benefits. Now, if you created a product and were selling it, that would be considered owning your own business. But you didn’t create the product, you’re selling someone else’s. If you truly owned your own business you could market and sell your product any way you wanted to. You are not allowed to do that. This whole notion that you are starting a “business” by purchasing a demonstration kit is bogus. By purchasing a demonstration kit and inventory to sell and then getting others to do the same all you are doing is making more money for a multi-million dollar corporation and maybe if you’re lucky a little spending money for yourself.

  8. ‘You don’t own anything.’ Now thats a golden nugget of truth! Them, No Faces (is what I call them. Just like the New World Order, psychos) at MKC. They’ve done a fine job of brain washin’ this poor ol’ gal, Norma! But hell Norma if you file your taxes, yearly, like a ‘business should’ your numbers would tell ya, ya’re working for free. Yes ‘MARY KAY is a business’ for the No Faces it is, but for you dear one you are being so useful spreading their lies. Hey, think about this. How can it be a lie? There are 3.5 million consultants all over the world, spreading it. It’s like this. Santa is a lie, a fairy tale, gone on for years by useful parents who tell their own children a lie so their children can experience the same wonderful surprise they felt as a child.(well most kids have) But when they discover the very folks they have the most trust in lied to them about Santa, it is such a lost feeling, confusion, they’d been tricked into believing. You’re gonna feel the same let down when you come out of the fog. Get therapy, you need it in other areas of your life to heal your arrested development, your innocence was/is being abused. When you realize the marketing scam by the NO FACES was designed to boost the economy at the end of the year, so like what Spunsilk said. ‘By purchasing a demonstration kit and inventory to sell and then getting others to do the same all you are doing is making more money for a multi-million dollar corporation…..’

You have the evidence right there in your ‘business’ files from last year. You work for free, spreading a lie.

Certainty in my heart and mind is what I was searching for, when I left MKC as a sales director, 2004. It took to 2013 to undo what I was programed to believe, Then it took from then to now to now, 2024, to find certainty for my life.

Break free from the controls of MKC.

  9. “MARY KAY is a business model studied by Havard Business College…”

The Mary Kay Corporation was studied by a particular professor who admired the company and the woman who founded it. He concentrated on the success of the corporation itself, not the success of women like you, who buy Mary Kay products to resell. From the Corporation’s point of view, you are the customer. The corporation can be hugely successful regardless of whether its customers (meaning you and other beauty consultants) succeed or fail. Even if every single one of you were bankrupted by your efforts to resell your MK products, the Mary Kay corporation would still be considered a success by business standards, as long as it was making a profit from selling to you.

In other words, the business model that was studied at Harvard is completely separate from the business model you, as a consultant, are following.

Please get your facts straight, because otherwise, you’re spreading misinformation that actually hurts you and other women like you.
