Customer Reviews of Mary Kay Products

Written by Parsons Green

Mary Kay has upgraded their website to now allow product reviews from both consultants and customers. Consultants were sent this handy guide on how to post their reviews, reminding them yet again that even though they are “business owners” they must agree to the terms they agreed to as independent contractors.

Mary Kay reminds consultants that not every review can be five stars. Three and four star reviews will make the review process seem authentic. But what about one and two star reviews?

And also, if Mary Kay wants authentic reviews, why are they asking consultants to not mention concerns in a review but to share them directly with the company?

Lisa Lahrmann Raupp recectly posted that the new bronzers were arriving cracked. Other directors agreed. If you were a customer, or thinking about being a consultant, wouldn’t you like to know this product frequently arrives damaged?

Shari Huls Schlapman also expressed concern that the new SPF is not mineral based. This led to a discussion about how the sunscreen is both overpriced, and behind the times in customer preferences. Wouldn’t you like to see a review that mentions the sunscreen isn’t that great?

Mary Kay stresses that photos posted in reviews need to be without filters or editing.

Will this be doable for Kristin Sharpe, Heather Daniel Kent, or Jessica Jean? These are just three Mary Kay directors, who would rather submit a schedule C to Pink Truth than post an unedited photo. If Mary Kay is such a quality, skin affirming product, why the need for the filters?

Mary Kay also mentions that reviews should not contain false claims.

Rachel Ryan, do you think anyone truly believes that the mint bliss lotion repels mosquitos?

And Amanda Wright, does the toning lotion really firm up underarm flab? Consultants will make up any nonsense they can think of to close a sale. Will they remember this rule when posting reviews?

Mary Kay does not want you posting photos in reviews in company apparel or at company events. Is this because they don’t want the FTC cracking down on them for promoting a flopportunity where 99% of the participants lose money? Don’t ask Rachel Ryan! She loves the after sun lotion and had to post a picture of her with some at the career conference.

These product reviews will be as believable as Mary Kay’s biography stating she’s only been married three times.

But at least they’re not deleting negative reviews!

  2. This rule is a killer – “Add selfies without filters or editing.” When was the last time you saw an unfiltered selfie from these consultants?

  3. “We must stop acting like everything the company does is amazing…”

Clarity, that. And what comes next?

  5. “do you think anyone truly believes that the mint bliss lotion repels mosquitos?” Yes! Mint does decrease your attractiveness to mosquitoes. We used to rub mint leaves from the river banks onto our skin to keep mosquitoes away when we were fishing.

  6. They may not be deleting negative reviews, but the KayBots are giving them a thumbs down. Wonder if the Ridiculous Downvoters correlate to those who show up here from time to time?

  7. Reason for buying product (Ultimate Miracle Set): “Lady talked me into it” hahahahaha Give the consultant props for “overcoming objections” !!! Definitely appreciate the brutal honesty!

  8. Can’t use filters in photos? No problem. Do a B&A photo set. In the Before photo, be sure to make use of shadows, poor lighting, scrunched and unhappy faces, and myriad other tricks to make the subject look worse. (I’ve noticed some MK consultants doing this.)

And there’s NSD Kristin using that cheap Mary Kay mirror to apply mascara to her false lashes.
