Mary Kay on The Price is Right 1982

What a fun clip of some interesting looking Mary Kay products featured on the Price is Right in 1982. Remember the whole “we never advertise” story which went on for decades? Yes they did. To get your product on the show, you had to donate the product AND usually you had to pay a placement fee. Yes, this is advertising.

  1. Whatever game that was, I’d deliberately overbid so I wouldn’t have to go home with that crap. Sorry mountain climber, you’re going over the cliff.

  2. Mary Kay was also the makeup sponsor for Project Runway in 2013. Even before I knew about all this nonsense, I thought the stuffy old lady image was an odd contrast to the innovative, fashion-forward designs being sent into competition.

  3. Kathy Helou, fka Kathy Kramer, was on The Price Is Right and won a set of Mary Kay skin care and/or cosmetics, and became a MK consultant shortly thereafter. As we all know, she’s a NSD Emerita.

I also remember a MK commercial that was on TV or radio back in the late 60s or early 70s with a musical jingle, “🎼🎤No woman need ever look 40, now there is Mary Kay.🎤🎼” I can still sing it to this day! Times have definitely changed since then! I’d LOVE to look 40 again, but at 78 years of age, it ain’t gonna happen!!☹️☹️

  4. Ahhh, a fun surprise Saturday post!! An Easter egg, if you will?

Chanteuse that is horrible!! I want to celebrate and promote women being naturally beautiful at every age and not “needing” makeup or product or cosmetic surgery! Easier said than done, I know.

Fun picture from old school Price is Right!

    • Pink Jihad, I totally agree with what you’ve said. My statement at the end of my comment was meant to be in jest. Women should be able to accept themselves no matter how old they are without a gazillion skin care products. Cleanser, toner, serum and moisturizer are all I need to use to start and end my day. And my skin looks good 😊! I also believe we can all agree that there are more than enough plastic surgery disasters (Priscilla Presley and Goldie Hawn come to mind) to dissuade us from taking that step. Hollywood can go milk a duck! 😂😂 We don’t need their standards of beauty to look our best!!

  5. I believe I owned every single one of the products above, except the hairspray.
I remember the creme foundation..you mixed a dot of red rouge to it-swirled it around-and got your blush color.

    • Claire, I did too. I was a stay at home mom with 2 boys and had “won” a free facial. I bought the whole set! But didn’t actually join Mary Kay until 1991. That first consultant never tried to recruit me.

  6. Wow! I remember my mom having those eyeshadows! I think they were the ones you added water to? What a horrible concept. Can’t blend it out, just yuck. I did like the lip palettes though. 😂
