Already Complaining About Seminar

Written by Parsons Green

Mary Kay will hold its annual seminar between August 8th and August 16th, and consultants are already complaining about changes that have been made. There will be no royalty reception this year for anyone who achieves the queen’s court of sales ($45,000 retail) or the queen’s court of sharing (24 qualified recruits).

Tara Geraghty shared this on Facebook. Tonya Vice had been warning people this was coming. She’s called. She’s sent letters. No one is listening. Mary Kay herself loved recognition. Ryan is too corporate. Everything has changed since he took charge.  Natalia Travilina also shares that no one is listening. No one cares. The golden rule is GONE.

Marilyn Costic echos these sentiments. People who shouted warnings were criticized. Mary Kay consultants have withstood many changes over the years but the elimination of recognition is wrong.

Laura Claypool has enjoyed attending Mary Kay events. No matter what city, the company picked fun locations with great activities. In fact, she even stole a box of napkins from one event as a keepsake. Mary Kay no longer has Cinderella moments.

Nancy Polish calls on everyone to email Ryan, sales development, and special events! Email them again and again. We need recognition.

Then Emily Schuette pops in. A lot has changed, but if those changes allow the company to offer $5.95 CDS shipping, she’d choose that instead.

Another consultant asked if there would be a special gift for Princess Achievers. (This previously was $20,000 retail.) Surprise surprise! There won’t be. Those winners will have a special bling button on their badge and standing recognition.

Tonya jumps back in to express more disgust at the changes. She no longer recognizes the company she joined.

And finally, Mary Kay is offering a consistency prize for orders – there are five different prize levels between $7,200 and $19,200 retail. These “consistency” challenges are aimed at getting consultants to order all throughout the year. Diane Von Boxtel asks – do you need to be at seminar to pick up your prize? Why yes you do!

EmeraldDragon640 wonders… how do you promote a year long consistency contest if it requires an in person pickup? Ruth Casillas agrees that it’s unfair. She’s had two consultants miss the prize last year for this reason. Lauren Cronin found out that they won’t even let your national pick up your prize!

Audrey Butler called corporate. They listened to her concerns but she didn’t feel heard. This is UNFAIR.

Susan Celi can no longer fly and she has earned this. Sherry Hanes says that seminar attendance was never required. Mary Kay herself would NEVER let this happen.

Robyn Riddle also earned the prizes but can’t attend. This is not fair. She earned the prizes. She should get them. (Even thought the contest stated from day one that this prize was contingent on Seminar attendance.) She makes sure everyone in her area gets the prizes she promised them.

Another day, another set of complaints about how Mary Kay isn’t the same. Everything’s changing. No one listens. (Well what do you expect with a company that is circling the drain?)

As a CEO business owner, why do you let Mary Kay Corporate treat you this way?

  1. I would be so angry if I was still in mk, BUT, not surprised if I had been paying attention like we have on PT.

Apropos of nothing, Christine VanAckeran (commented above in thread) was the one who expressed such sadness about the mashed potato bar being taken away at the royalty reception in a different seminar thread.

    Thanks again PG!!!

  2. If MK corporate sent out all the earned prizes ( for ordering product) then no one would attend Seminar accept maybe the Queens courts. Smaller attendance means less profit for corporate. They have already cut back on Seminar, it is more and more like Career Conference- a one and a half day event. Gone are the days of 3-4 full days of events, recognition, parties, luncheons, museum and manufacturing plant visits. Affiliate marketing is closer than these ladies want to believe.

  3. No way in hell is Ryan reading any of these emails- the consultants are wasting their time.
These Boss Babes need to wise up and realize MK Corporate has big plans that no longer involve giving a damn about these pesky consultants. The writing is on the wall.

  4. If MK doesn’t ditch the MLM model by next summer, all this complaining will just give corporate an excuse to not hold a seminar at all: “if these greedy, attention-hungry whiners don’t want the prizes we’re deigning to offer them enough to travel for them, what’s the point of having the prizes? In fact, why have a seminar at all if they’re only coming to get stuff for themselves?”

And if they’re all so desperate for recognition and rewards, they’d be much better off using the time and money they’re spending on MK to investigate what’s missing from their lives and work on correcting that instead.

  5. Don’t these ladies understand? All you have to do is convince every existing director and consultant to order $2500 in product right now, then each recruits 5 new people under them who do the same, and convince each of those new recruits to recruit another 5 under them etc. ad infinitum. Soon MK will be flush with cash, have a seminar-filling sales force, and all of the perks can come back!

    Here’s proof…
