Power Start, Power Flop

Carrie Cardwell (formerly Zuberer) challenged herself to have a Power Start. This is a made up Mary Kay term for seeing 30 faces in 30 days. She first announced this attempt on August 19th, and she only needed 29 faces to finish by September 6th. She and a fellow consultant were holding a Beauty Social and one lucky winner would receive $100 CASH.
Carrie then moved the goal post, gave herself a couple extra weeks, and stated she needed 18 people to finish by September 22nd.
She saw two faces that day, then saw 7 in the next two days!!! She only needed nine to finish and had one day to do it.
Sadly, but expectedly, Carrie didn’t let us know if she finished or not. But, by the tone of this post, she did not.
Carrie has been in and out of directorship multiple times. She once drove a Cadillac, but now doesn’t qualify for any of the Mary Kay cars. But she has confidence!
Carrie’s posts and lack of engagement show that people don’t want or care about these products. Everyone in Carrie’s social circle has either hidden her on Facebook or just scrolls on by. If Carrie can’t get people to sign up for a “free” facial, how can she expect any of her recruits to have any type of success?

Two things I noticed that would have put me off about helping her with her goal. Why do so many MK reps refer to women as girls? And why does she only want “cute” people? If I were trying to sell makeup, I think I would want to offer any woman a product that would let them feel and look better.
Blush that looks like rosacea and Corpse Bride lipstick. Is she freaking colorblind? I’d take makeup advice from the Joker first. And the wide staring eyes and fixed grin are just creepy. Someone ought to put out a tutorial on how to act natural. These huns need it.

Exactly. This is why I ask MLMers to prove it can work for them personally before I will even entertain a discussion. Until that time, I don’t want to hear another word about it.
And if they somehow manage to reach the top ranks (nearly impossible…I’ve met tons of MLMers in my life, but not a single successful one), that eventual discussion will include a mathematical model of the downline carnage required to achieve what they achieved. They won’t listen, of course, but I will at least get a chance to demonstrate that I know full well about their dishonest gains, with a relatively accurate forecast of the aggregate harm they have done.
I’ve had these discussions on the past with idealistic MLMers who were in the process of climbing the ranks. You’d think their head was about to explode when I demonstrated the cumulative losses required in their downline for them to achieve their goals. They’ve called me a pariah, the devil, possessed etc., and with only one exception, terminated the relationship.
This is why I no longer have these discussions with folks “on the rise”. I simply say, “Prove you can make it work, then we’ll talk.” This way, experience does the work for me, and the relationship survives. They will not listen to reason. Sadly, they have to experience it for themselves.
Many, like Carrie above, are slow learners.
