Tina Harden announced on August 1st that she had signed up with Mary Kay and her debut party would be on August 22nd.

After the party, she shared that she had 12 people show up.

Look how excited everyone is. Two of the twelve attendees were children, meaning Tina has shared the opportunity to the next generation.

Nicole Mallet also had her debut the same day and had 8 guests. She considers this a nice turnout.

This is good, because Nicole happens to be a big fan of our friend Kristin Sharpe. (I wonder how that whole “not in good standing with MK” thing is going?)

Tina also signed up her first team member Heather Sturgeon! She missed the pictures because she needed to go outside to complete the set up process!

Jeanen Hammer-Huber congratulated Tina on her debut, and reminded her never to quit.

Sadly, not every comment was positive. When Sarah Carter started her Mary Kay business, no one showed up to her launch party. But she carried forward and still attended seminar.

Christy Wheeler’s debut was a bust too. Her family and friends did not show up for her on this important day! She’s been in for a year and it is hard.

Tina didn’t share any pictures of filled in sales slips or calculators showing totals so we don’t know how much, if anything, she sold at this party. However, she’s already full steam ahead on making the most of this flopportunity.

She’s ordered business cards that she loves and can’t stop looking at. (I wonder when she first noticed one of the Mary Kay labels is backwards?) She’s also planning an inventory section of her home complete with a pink and silver theme.

Will Tina be doing a stage walk at next year’s seminar? Only time will tell.

  1. Cringe, cringe, cringe.

“I am so disappointed that my family and so called friends didn’t bother to show up…”

And they are disappointed that you are trying to exploit your relationships for personal gain. Want to see who really cares about you? After your flame out with Mary Kay, see who shows up for your “I’m quitting MLM for life!” celebration!

Heck, even I would come to that, and I don’t even know you!

  2. So much secondhand cringe 😬

Look, a box of damn Cheerios costs $5.69. I don’t remember when gas was last under 4 bucks a gallon. Cold weather and big utility bills are coming fast. So are the holidays, and people need to save on other stuff so they won’t have to get their Cratchitt on.

If they came, they’d feel obligated to buy stuff they don’t necessary need or want, that they maybe can’t afford. They’d be doing you a disservice by making you think you can make a go of it by hitting up friends and family. You can’t. Most people will make a pity purchase and then never again.

The market is saturated. The products are overpriced and underwhelming. You’re competing with a few million others for the same very limited customer pool. You’re not going to make money or get the stage walk or the car. The only way to advance is through recruitment, not sales.

I’m a hermit and not very feminine, so I don’t have any concrete suggestions, but there’s got to be better ways of getting your girl time than this.

  3. “one of the Mary Kay labels is backwards”

Oh wow, LOLOLOLOL! How embarrassing for a sooper-speshul bizniss owner! I’m sorry, but while I do remember the feeling of holding my first legit business cards (when I was 21 and had an actual J.O.B.), I just can’t with this one. IT IS NOT A BUSINESS; YOU ARE AN INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS at best and have very little say and control over what you sell, how you sell it, and how you promote.

    • Aren’t the consultants required to buy their business cards directly from Mary Kay?

This card looks like she ordered it from a vendor who used AI pics floating around on the internet.

        • Doesn’t that go against the consultant agreement? Or does MKC even care anymore what these consultants do as long as they are ordering inventory.

  4. Oooooof. I third or fourth this cringe-worthiness of this *waves hand around* whatever.

If the products were what people truly wanted and were sold in a non-MLM format, you would have had a more robust debut with decent sales. Mediocre, overpriced products in a high pressure sales environment are not winners in most peoples’ lives.

  5. The eye cream is yaK yraM and the brush looks like complete gibberish.

Details, ladies. Part of being professional is paying attention to details. If you’re sloppy about this, what else are you sloppy about?

Side note: Mary Kay has put out new social media rules including the use of AI. I can’t wait to see the consultants’ reactions.

    • I remember being excited for my first Seminar; excited for the possibilities of my “new business” my first year. And, now see these young beautiful women being so excited and i think I feel second-hand disappoinment for them. LOL. I know how quickly they’ll be disappointed (unless they stay in the fog). For example, when I saw the Mary Cabinet, I thought “No, don’t do that.” Or Seminar I thought “it’s nothing to get excited over. No, you won’t see her walk across the stage. Unless she buys her way onstage.”
