Nsd Roya Mattis Loses Her Pink Cadillac

Oh, how far the mighty have fallen.

As we learned yesterday, part of Mary Kay’s death spiral is the dropping incomes of the national sales directors. Not only do we have about half the number of nsds that were active 5 or 10 years ago, the percentage earning $10,000 per month or more has dropped too.

Let’s have a look at one of the nsds, Roya Mattis. She was a Mary Kay lifer, and way back in 2013, I had the pleasure of calling Roya out for lying about being “totally debt free.” I also got to point out how her husband Noah (now her ex-husband) was never retired, even though she claimed that her Mary Kay business allowed him to retire.

Back in 2016, Roya made $12,000 in gross commissions one month. All the other months of the year she made less than $10,000 and therefore wasn’t even listed in Applause magazine. Safe to say… This MK business was never the cash cow Roya wanted  you to believe it was.

She somehow made it to nsd and thought she had it made in the shade. Roya would drive a pink Cadillac forever, and she’d finally make the big money. But that never materialized. And this week, Mary Kay towed her pink Escalade away from her house.

How does a Mary Kay national sales director lose her pink Cadillac?  Well… starting with the 2024-25 seminar year, nsds had to requalify for their car. When it’s time to requalify, MK will look at the seminar year-end numbers. To keep the car, the nsd must have earned at least $75,000. If she qualifies, then she keeps the car for 3 years.

HOWEVER, during the 3 year period, she still has to qualify each year to continue “driving free.” If she does not meet the maintenance requirement of $75,000 in earnings for any subsequent seminar year, then she has a copay!

It seems our friend Roya made less than $75,000 for the seminar year ending June 2025, and the company told her to kiss that pretty pink Escalade goodbye. I’m not sure whether it’s more shameful to have to drop the car off somewhere or to have a tow truck come to your house and load it up and haul it away, but either way, Mary Kay has their pink car back from Roya. And Roya did us the kind gesture of filming it and telling us she’s grateful!

If you look at Roya’s website, you see that she doesn’t even mention Mary Kay. She’s been selling her woo woo coaching for years, and she’s apparently “an expert in feminine energy facilitation and trauma release.” She wants to be a speaker at “medicine retreats” and she can teach you about “she-ness” in her tribe!

I think her days in Mary Kay are numbered…

  1. I’m curious what else they’re going to start taking away from the NSDs in the run up to affiliate. Seems they’re dismantling the pyramid from the top as well as eroding it from the bottom.

And it proves something very important: the NSDs, the MK “royalty”, 🙄 act like they’re hot stuff. The money, the glamor, the power, the secrets to wealth, the ears of corporate.

In reality, they haven’t got squat. They’re susceptible to the whims of corporate just like the lowly IBCs. They’ve just been putting on one hell of a show to hide that fact.

    • But they didn’t really take anything away. They did the math and said if your area isn’t bringing in enough money, we’re not paying for your $100k vehicle. Seems fair! The pyramid toppers say all you have to do is WORK!

  2. Roya wasn’t the only one to have her vehicle repossessed this week. There were several.
NSDs also have to qualify for the trip now.
I predict more will “retire” at Leadership this year.

  3. The truly sad thing about this? Every NSD is subject to the same manipulation as a brand new beauty consultant. Lost the Cadillac? It was because you didn’t work hard enough! Not making $10,000/month to be featured in Applause? Well, why not? What do those women have that you can fix?

Personal responsibility, positive thinking, and can-do attitude are great. But when they are weaponized to cover systemic flaws that prevent true, lasting success, they’re just covers to continue abusing women at all levels of the pyramid.

I don’t feel at all sorry for Roya. She’s a nut job who continues to manipulate women inside and outside Mary Kay. That said, corporate changed the rules on her in the middle of the game. Just like they’re doing to consultants and directors. They’re driving everyone to quit in a move to affiliate. Personally, I hope corporate loses it all in the process.

    • I feel sorry for NONE of them. You only get to nsd with lies after lies after lies to recruits. Time to reap what you sow, baby!

    • Yeah that’s the emotions I have. It’s like feeling sorry for kids/teens who misbehave and end up in jail. The parents raised them. That’s on the parents. But common sense should say to the kid/teen not to do things.

While I don’t feel sorry for nationals because they’re whole grown adults, corporate absolutely pulled the whole rug out from under them. It’s a whole other feeling because while they’ve done years of manipulation, it’s coming right back at them from the very people who promised them the world. The blunders are coming off and I’d imagine there’s some major life reflection from some. I’m waiting on a lawsuit. Surely there’s fine print where nationals can go after corporate. I’m sure Ryan thought of all that, but maybe not.

*also to add, I never had a national so I’ve never watched one get rich off of me personally. My director was one who’d tell me not to order if I couldn’t so my experience was fine. I do have a friend who I hopes join us here one day because her national was the most disgusting person I’ve ever heard of. Oh the stories she can tell. The nationals I did know were fun people (even though they got millions in inventory and all that). We all make bad decisions or live in seasons of bad decisions.

      • There is no fine print that allows the nationals to go after corporate. IT’S IN THEIR CONTRACT. The contract gives MK all the power and the nationals willingly signed up for it.

Plus, if they want free Escalades, all they have to do is WORK HARDER, right????

I’m also not here for the women who will describe a national “but so-and-so is the nicest most honest person in the world.” NO. SHE. IS. NOT. She has spent decades lying to other women, using a smile and pretend niceness to get them to part with their money to buy hundreds or thousands of dollars of inventory that they will never sell for a profit.

    • “Personally, I hope corporate loses it all in the process.”

I think it will happen. Even once people can buy the stuff wthout the hassle of going through a consultant, they’ve still got to contend with their reputation of being old lady makeup that can’t keep up with trends. They won’t be able to squash negative reviews anymore. The products with still be undersized and overpriced with nothing to set them apart from their zillions of competitors. If they radically retool their whole product line and marketing strategy, they’ll get slammed for not remaining true to Mary Kay Herself’s vision.

I kind of wonder if Ryan wants the whole thing to crumble away so he can take a fat severance package and early retirement and go hunt mammoths in San Tropez, or whatever he does for fun, free from family expectations.

  4. She’ll save thousands of dollars by not being invited to speak at any recruiting events. No official MK event will have her, and no “sister” NSD will want to have her associated with the dream they’re selling.
