Nothing Works in Mary Kay

Written by Parsons Green

Nicole Perhala is a Mary Kay Director trying to finish her Equinox. (Free car, ya’ll!!!!) She needs HELP! She’s $14,000 away. If she gets 6 Great Start Qualified Consultants, she’ll knock out $3600 of her required production. She asked for help in a Director’s group on Facebook.

Taryn Sneed recommends giving them a Timewise Repair set!

Casey Evans has a Pink Ring Club! She tells consultants that everyone in her unit earns this ring. (She gets hers from Amazon or Shein). She reminds them that they also get free bundles for being a Great Start Consultant.

Leslie Fabris also recommends highlighting the bundles. Unfortunately, Nicole hasn’t been able to schedule a launch party for the consultants she’s trying to get qualified.

Kathy Benitez suggests a variety of options to split up the payments on an inventory order. Sell the sizzle of being part of a unit that earned a car (that only Nicole gets to drive). Someone once told Kathy she wanted to claim the headlight on a Cadillac when she placed her order.

Sarah Perdue has a simple suggestion – bribe them with CASH!

Nicole has been ordering from Mary Kay for at least 8 years. And in that time, she has been no stranger to begging for orders for all sorts of things. At the end of 2018, she was begging for orders to finish her car and Queen’s Court of Sharing.

By February 2019, she had become a Director! Unfortunately, half of her unit would be entering T Status in March.

In June 2019, Nicole had already been a director for 1 year. Yet she’d never sold more than $3000 in a month! (Wait, I thought it was so easy to sell? I thought directors were supposed to lead by example?) Nicole just needed $6854 to finish Queen’s Court of Sales, though.

In 2020, Nicole shared that she had been working her Mary Kay business full time since January. By October, she had only signed up one new team member. She’s had 10-15 career chats a month. Her teammates are having similar issues.

In 2022, Nicole admitted that if she does get someone to hold an appointment, they don’t want to hold a party. If they do agree to a party, they cancel or ghost her. She’s been offering both in person and virtual.

Nicole was back in 2023 and shared with the FB group that she’d shared the opportunity with 35 people so far that year and none signed up. She was especially anxious because she needed to requalify for her car.

In 2024, she asked for help with Boo Bags for Halloween. She’s done this for 5 years and has little success in booking appointments.

In 2025, she asked for help with Hostess Gifts. She had success in giving away $50 in free product. She’s still not having much luck booking that second appointment.

This year Nicole shared publicly that she wanted to earn the Cadillac, she’d be in it by June.

Nicole is aiming to finish the Seminar Year Strong. She’s trying to have a $6000 day so she can use the proceeds for a women’s shelter. She has not yet updated us on how this day went.

How does Nicole still think that Mary Kay is a good business? She is just another director trying to make this flopportunity work. She frequently posts in director groups about how hard it is to recruit new team members. Does she share any of this with the new recruits when she’s desperately waiting for them to place their first inventory order?

Of course not! Which unit members would ever sign up, much less order, if they knew how much Nicole was struggling to sell products, recruit women, and get them to place orders? That’s not the easy peasy “business” they’re selling to consultants during the recruiting pitch!

  1. Someone said she would win a big, beautiful diamond ring and posted a picture of the bee ring. All I got is “that is one UGLY ring.”

Cold calling hit rates are ~2%. This means that on average you need to approach ~50 strangers before you will get one to sign up.

Cold selling is hard enough. Cold selling overpriced MLM products is even harder! Cold selling the MLM opportunity, which has such a strong negative stigma, is nearly impossible!

Thanks to Parsons Green for showing the harsh reality these ladies face. There is no magic solution to this problem. Once you’ve exhausted pity purchases from your warm market of F+F, the stark reality of cold calling hits hard!

    • What struck me was her “anxiety” because she had to requalify for her car. Car qualifications are identical to car maintenance requirements. If she’s not consistently hitting qualification numbers, it means she’s been paying a hefty copay for that “free” car. Why on God’s green earth would you want to CONTINUE doing that?

      • Just like the other SDs currently begging their downlines for help to reach “our” goal.

        What’s “our” goal?

The SD gets the MK trip to Switzerland.

  3. Prices for the Equinox start at $29K for the base model, up to about $37k fully loaded.

If she quit the insanity and applied what she spends on “production” on a down payment and monthly payments, she’d have a car for keepsies and wouldn’t have to keep begging on social.

    • But…but it won’t have a sassy MK logo on the door and how can she boast on SM about her “free” MK car if she saved money and just bought the dang thing for $500,000 less?

And the lease payments from MKC for the “free” career car are considered income, so she’s paying income tax.

Mary Kay is a glittery money pit.

  4. Give away $300 Timewise sets? Bribe them with cash? Give them six bills’ worth of freebies if they spend six hundred? Exsqueeze me, isn’t the point of all this to make money, not give it away?

Nicole, I’ll tell you what your MK pals won’t. If these people wanted to order and debut, they’d have done so ages ago. They want you to give up and go away and stop bothering them. They don’t want anything from you except lack of you.

You’re making yourself look like a desperate nag. Grow some self respect, look at what you’re doing, stop doing it, and go do something else.

  5. I’d love to see a legit P & L statement for Nicole’s “business” along with the interest rates on the credit cards she must have maxed out long ago. It must be horrific.

Don’t they realize how dumb they look begging for inventory purchases, pity sales and giving away product all for a “FREE” car? Where is the free part?

  6. I think the only place I see women posing with their mouth open in these crazy smiles is MK. I did it too hoping my excitement would manipulate people to do the thing I wanted…book an appointment, join my team, buy the product, etc. Now I see how phony I looked. SMH. 🤦🏼‍♀️

  7. I know she’s excited about the possibility of the Cadillac but all I can think when I see this picture is “Look at this fabulous POSTER I made! I’m so excited about my POSTER.” LOL.
I was briefly a MK consultant, but never got as excited about things as others did. It all just seemed manufactured to me.

    • Yes the colouring in sheets and kindergarten craft projects are quite infantilising. Colour in a sheet when you sell a lipstick, colour in a woman’s face when you host a party. Who needs Excel or a CRM system when you have coloured pens and a colouring in sheet? Cutting out pictures for a goal poster takes me back to being 7 and we did something similar – cut words out of magazines and newspapers and glue on posters categorising them as nouns, verbs, or adjectives. Except we were 7 and were learning English in a fun way. We did have a car poster project due to the teacher being a petrolhead, cut out cars from Parkers and categorise them mathematically based on top speed and acceleration. He did get a free gift with purchase with his Renault Laguna, the Renault bear which his toddler son liked. That’s a bit of a tangent.

      • The color in sheets they do is absurd. I keep track of my household expenses with a spreadsheet, I don’t color in cartoon squares with crayola markers. “I paid my electric bill, that’s five blue blocks on my happy sparkle sheet!” No.

Color in sheets are for children, I’d never do business with grown women that are doing nonsense they are way too old for.

  8. Part of my soul dies every time I read the words “big girl” used as an adjective by these lunatics. Honestly, I wouldn’t patronize the kindergartners I work with by calling it a “big girl” ring or a “big girl” job. (I swear my IQ dropped a few points just by typing that!) Why would these grown women choose to infantilize themselves???

  9. You need 24 consultants in your unit and the production needed to finish DIQ – but once you have that title, as long as you’re making production, you keep it right? Even if you are doing all the production yourself?

  10. All I can think about is how stressed out these women are. You can bet their husbands, children and pets are being neglected. And think of the dread when the clock strikes midnight on June 30. What a horrible way to live.

  11. It sickens me when I read how she manipulate the emotions of her down line.

    Manufactures scarcity & FOMO
“ I make sure they know they are missing out on their free bundle and ring if they don’t get qualified.”

    Deception
“ I romance the crap out of the ring too!”

I wear one to every appointment and even take a pic of them wearing mine when they sign up so I can text it to them later. PS- You don’t need my ring. Just a ring on Amazon or SHEIN you can buy a few sizes of and make it into a “club”

No regard for others…..and to say it out loud with no sense of shame. Cannabalizing in Mary Kay has not only being normalised, it’s a celebrated milestone. It has become a benchmark of leadership. I see it in real time here.

  12. Chevy equinox’s are not that expensive..
Does she realize that she will not be able to keep this car unless she… oh dear lord.
